  • Great Idea
Style: Beginner Bonsai Kit
This is a great idea to grow your own Bonsai trees. The Instructions are very easy to follow. All the material is provided to grow your Bonsai and have the pleasure of growing it from start. You can control it's shape as it grows. I have had mature Bonsai's over the years and thrilled to grow from start. I had a tree years ago that was 16 years old and I was so excited to have this tree and babyed it along. One time I had to leave for business trip and my kids forgot to water it and it eventually died. I was so sad. So here I am growing trees from start and so excited to have come across this kit. I recommend it to everyone who has a love for these miniature trees. ... show more

  • GROW A HAPPY LIFE BY PLANTING A BONSAI!
Style: Beginner Bonsai Kit
I just received my Bonsai kit, and I am very impressed with it. I love the box it is all packaged in, and the little burlap pots to grow your seeds in are so clever. You get 4 different kinds of Bonsai seeds and 4 pots. It comes with easy to understand instructions, and plant markers to write the date and name of seed type on. As I am a garden enthusiast, I thought this would be a fun project to try. This would be a great gift for a young person to teach them the basics of cultivating seeds. Very nice kit for under $20 bucks. I can’t wait to get started growing my own personal Bonsai trees. I would definitely buy this kit again for a gift!! ... show more

  • Cute, but not great overall
Style: Beginner Bonsai Kit
(Please see updates below)...The box is well put together. Minor issues- there aren't enough Popsicle sticks to tag all the seeds, there is only 1 transplant pot. That being said, my seed germination rate was ~5%. Of the seeds that were originally planted, only 1 of the 3 species grew. I have just planted the final two species (they require treatment in the fridge for 6-8 weeks), and am currently watching to see if any of these grow. Little disappointed in the germination rate. Edit: So I was hesitant to blame the seeds that come with this kit because it was very possible that I was the issue. I have now reduced my rating from 2 stars to 1 star. The seeds that were treated in the fridge have failed to grow so far. I bought seeds from another company that I know has reputable seeds and used the same exact growing method with the new seeds and seed starting soil from Lowe's, and my germination rate is already better and it has only been 4 days. This kit is not worth the money because the seed is junk. Take the $30, go buy seeds from a reputable source, and save yourself the hassle. This kit is a lot of disappointment. Took me several months to discover this. ... show more

  • Good product!
Style: Beginner Bonsai Kit
I recently got this as a family thing me and my aunt could do together and so far am really liking it. The instructions are easy to follow and I have yet to kill any of the trees. Which is big since I have the opposite of a green thumb. The packaging even came with two free sets of different extra bonus tree seed which is awesome. My only complaint was the when I got the box in the main it was crushed and severely damaged. Luckily none of the product was to damaged but that pot had some scrapes and bruises. The amazon delivery guy even had to put it in a bag so nothing would fall out. Overall though I am really happy with the product and the trees are doing good so far! Send me luck I’m horrible with plants!! ... show more

  • Mixed Results
Style: Beginner Bonsai Kit
First off, I think this is an excellent kit. Good packaging. The included instruction booklet, the included pots and tool, is great for a beginner. Now for my results: Not so great. I chose to grow the Japanese Maple, Black Pine, Judas, Wisteria, and Pomegranate seeds. Out of all of those varieties, only the Judas and Pomegranate are growing. My wisteria seeds grew moldy and never produced, and nothing has come of the black pine or the japanese maple (all of the ones I bought the kit for). Disappointing, yes, but I understand when it comes to having successful germination from just 5 seeds, it can be just luck of the draw. ... show more

  • Nice, basic kit for a beginner like me.
Style: Beginner Bonsai Kit
Well, what can I say? Everything came in a small 6- or 7-inch cube-shaped box, easy to store, if need be, and easy to wrap, if giving as a gift. For the price, I wasn't expecting much besides the basics: pots-- four jiffy pots and one slightly larger plastic pot, seeds--they gave me six kinds instead of four, but the advertised 4 were present as well as the two freebies, four wooden stakes to write the name of the tree on when planting, the little snips, which look like they should be adequate for the job, a very small--8 or10 page--instruction book, and the 4 compressed disks for planting seeds in. If you plan to use all the seeds, you'll need a few more pots and soil for starting seeds in, and the ones provided are small enough that they'll quickly be outgrown--but the minimum requirements are here for getting started. Seed counts were low, about ten to fifteen per packet, except for the wisteria, which only had around six, but those are larger seeds. If you plan to use all the provided seeds, extras you'll no doubt wish you had are more pots and soil, some nice ceramic pots for transplanting the seedlings into, instructions for pruning and training-free on the internet- and some wire for shaping the limbs as they grow. All easily obtainable but not strictly necessary to start the seeds provided in the kit. My suggestions for improving the kit would be to double the number of fiber disks, make sure the names of the species are complete on the packet--one that I received had 'flame' as the only whole word, and enlarge and darken the names on all of the seed packets. All in all, a nice, basic kit to get you started, but you'll definirely need some additional supplies after a while. One of my Mimosa seeds started sprouting the day after planting, the second in that pot began sprouting a few days later, none of the rest are showing signs of activity yet but it's been less than a week. One final bit of advice for the seller--don't bother providing difficult to start seeds in starter kits--chances are, anyone buying it is a beginner who doesn't want to take the time, in the case of the Judas Tree seeds, to soak them for twenty-four hours, wrap them in a moist paper towel, place them in a ziplock bag, and refrigerate for five or so weeks with periodic trips out of the refrigerator to open the bag and give them fresh air. ... show more
