When my Wechter Pathmaker's frets were worn to the wood, I assessed replacements the same way that I selected a 3D printer: I bought eight different ones from Amazon, hoping to only have to return some. This guitar is the winner. Admittedly, it looks like Gretsch had a love child with Elvis Presley's ghost, but the instrument checks all of the boxes. FORM FACTOR: It's described as a Jumbo, and in terms of two of its three body dimensions, that is accurate. Thankfully, the body depth is only 4.75", more on par with a Dreadnought. This gives most of the sonic benefits of a Jumbo without pulling your right arm so far forward. It's also curvy like a Jumbo, so it sits on your lap better than a Dreadnought. Overall it's very comfortable to play. FRET WORK: Close to what you would get from an expensive private luthier. Not too much material was removed, so they're nice and tall, and the tops are crowned to return them to the original round shape of the fret wire. The ends of each fret are radiused on the semi-circular edge while not being chamfered too steeply. This is uncommon and very desirable. The reason that the ends of frets are treated at all is to keep sharp edges away from the passing hand of the player. Most guitar makers achieve this the quick and easy way: they clobber the ends of the frets with a long chamfer. This leaves the player less room before the treble E-string falls off the edge. The preferred way is to use a more modest chamfer, rounding over the sharp edges themselves rather than removing so much material. It's more work for the luthier but far better for the player. This is how this guitar's frets are dressed. The fret wire width is Medium, that is, 5/64" or 2mm. Jumbo fret wire would have been even nicer (7/64"), especially on a twelve string. SOUND: Beautiful, but not the loudest guitar in the group. A lot of the nice things customers have been saying about the sound might be attributable to the fact that it's a twelve string. However, when I played only the six strings found on standard guitars, I still found the sound quality to be excellent, even without the brightness of the octave strings. The right way to do this test is to remove the octave strings, but I was lazy, and used precision picking instead. OVERALL: I don't think there's a better alternative on Amazon for the price. I wish it came in other colors, but the white is beautiful nevertheless. ... show more

  • Expecatation Met
I have played a Gretsch Tennessee Rose guitar for over 15 years and it's been the most playable guitar of all the 7 guitars I own. I have wanted a 12 string to play Christian worship music and so I went to the the most reliable, best value guitar manufacturer out there, Gretsch. I love the guitar, it's got killer looks, great craftsmanship, tone, playability. I am pleased with the electronics including a built in tuner. I did purchase a Gretsch G6302 XL Case and it fits perfectly. All in all... super pleased. ... show more

  • Beautiful AND Stylish guitar!!!
Got the guitar used but like new for $500. Couldn't even tell it was used at all!!! Looked up and down for imperfections but there was none to be found! Tuned it up and played for a few hours. The guitar feels nice, action is great and sounds amazing! Strings could use a changing though, D'ADDARIO'S do not know how to make acoustic strings. I will switch them out for either EARTHWOOD or ELIXIRS. The on board tuner is probably the best that I've had as it is quick to response to the octave strings. I have been playing guitar on and off for 8 or so years now and this baby is definitely a keeper! The only "con" this baby has is that it is quiet compared to my IBANEZ exotic wood acoustic and my fiances LUNA Butterfly but a quick an easy fix would be to plug it in to an amp like my MARSHALL AS100D! Problem solved! And don't get me wrong the guitar sounds fine unplugged by yourself or with a friend but when you add drums or bass to the mix then you better own a amp. One more issue (not with the guitar) would be finding an inexpensive case (that fits cus she's a rather big girl) to go with it. Luckily I have a hardshell GUILD case which fits anything but I think I saw on the GRETCH website that their case is about $250. Hope this review helped you in your quest for the perfect 12 string! I know this girl will keep me happy for a long while!!! ... show more

  • Bandmates and I love this guitar
I gig regularly both in cover bands and for unplugged sessions. I've wanted a 12 string for a long time but never pulled the trigger, as it seemed indulgent. My wife independently researched and purchased this guitar for my birthday, and I've been in love with it ever since. Huge full sound. Well setup out of the box. Built in Fishman electronics. This guitar exceeds expectations in every way, and will be a staple for all of my acoustic settings (even for songs that dont call for 12 string...). ... show more

This 12-string sounds great, looks great, and is easy to play. I did get it at a great price. But my daughter and I love it. I love plugging it in.

  • Love it -this is an impressive guitar in looks
Love it -this is an impressive guitar in looks, size and sound. Gretsch delivers on the promise of "that great Gretsch sound" in a big, bold 12 sound. Built in tuner is a nice feature to keep all those strings in tune. Great Gretsch play, fast neck and very tight. This thing is gorgeous in looks, and heavenly to play. That big 12 string acoustic sound coming out of the Rancher Falcon is absolutely worth it. I bought this one for my son, now I'm jealous I don't have one! ... show more
