  • Beginning to regret this purchase
I guess I would give 2.5 stars if I could, balancing 5 stars for my child's love of it vs 1 star for completely avoidable build issues. Pros: Looks good, 3 speeds to grow with your child's driving ability (that you select with a key so it is tamper proof), plenty of power from the electric motor, kid loves it. Problems: -The rear U-shaped roll bar does not come pre-installed and has to be bolted together. I had defective thread on one of the bolts or internal threads and actually snapped a bolt off inside the U-bar when I was first assembling this. I received a new U-bar and bolts under warranty claim. -2nd issue with the U-bar is that the bolt holes on the frame were drilled vertically when they should have had some angle to them. As a result, there was literally a 2" gap between the top of the brace and the U-bar (see photo). I had to force them together, bending the bolts in the process. I asked Go-Bowen customer support if this gap was normal and got NO response on this question. -Poor turning radius. There is a guy with a you-tube video who modified the steering mechanisms and achieved better results. I found that even with the wheels turned, the kart just wants to go straight because 1) no suspension to keep all four wheels on the ground 2) tires don't have much tread 3) single rear axle forces the rear wheels to turn together (pros and cons to this but I think this kart would be better as single wheel drive). Obviously points 1 and 3 are just inherent design features and if you want suspension you are going to pay more. What can be done is use of a more aggressive tread. I am also going to attach some weight to the front frame. I have seen photos and videos of these karts with more aggressive tread. I'm not sure if they used to come with better tires or if these are after-market. -Also, regarding steering, the front tires came out of the shipping crate at angles to each other (i.e., not straight). I noticed after trying to figure out a way to get a better turning radius. I had to adjust the linkages to straighten the wheels. -I just had a right rear tire FALL OFF when I was moving this around in the garage and have submitted a claim to customer service for a new nut. The nut is gone, not to be found. It must have fallen off when my kid was riding it and fortunately he made it home. If that tire had fallen off when he was riding 1) he might have been hurt 2) 100% chance he would have been freaked out and 3) it would probably have damaged the disc brake. After the tire fell off, I checked and found all of the bolts to be barely hand tight. I pulled the cotter pins, tightened the bolts, and re-installed heavier duty cotter pins. In hindsight, I should have checked when the kart was shipped, but should this really have been a problem? -You'd think this would be quiet with an electric motor, but the chain makes a terrible noise because the sprocket on the motor does not align precisely with the gear on the axle and the chain is constantly catching and popping back into place. When I turn the rear wheels manually, there is a point in the rotation where there is so much resistance it takes two hands for me to overcome it. This has to be hard on the chain, sprockets, and motor. In fact, I just noticed metal shaving dust all over. I can't help but wonder how long I have until I need to replace parts? -Finally, I don't like the seat belt on this thing. The shoulder straps just fall off. I'm going to have to attach some harness guides to the top of the seat to prevent this. ... show more

  • The manual is useless, kids love the kart
Just received my kart about a week ago. Shipping container damaged. Can't tell if the kart is damaged. The instructions are written in pidgin English, and don't cover topics like how to charge. There are some videos available but those don't cover the configuration of my kart. Seller was useless to help. Maybe I can make it work, maybe not. Finally, after two days of phone calls. I found someone at the Seller's number who knew how to charge my kart. Maybe all's well that ends well. Two days after Christmas: After some work we got the thing running. The kids love it and it's faster than I expected. We haven't let the eight year grandson get into speed three yet. We also have a Razor kart with a top speed of 12 mph. This thing is faster than that in speed two. Out of the box one tire had a leak which we treated with green slime and it seems t be holding. The plastic bracket which held the plug in for the rear battery (mine has two plugs, one for each battery). Some I think just have one plug for both batteries). We took the plug out of the bracket, plugged it in and wrapped it in plastic electrician's tape to insulate it. Seems to work fine. It will charge using the other plug. There is one more problem we haven't fixed yet. Sometimes the forward throttle in speed 2 won't energize the motor. Usually with enough massaging and flipping switches and the pedal it will finally make contact and then she will go. I have revised my rating to four stars because the thing is so fun for the kids. However, the sorry instructions that came with the kart are inexcusable. It is complex enough you need help if anything goes wrong or if you can't figure out how to use it. In my case I wasn't sure how to charge it. Fortunately my 40 year old son was around. He cut through most of the issues. It helps that he an EE. If you don't have one of those handy, you may struggle with it. ... show more

  • My son loves it
I bought this for my son's 6th birthday. The solid rear axle was not straight which resulted in a broken wheel bearing (after about 5 minutes of use). Customer services was excellent. They promptly sent me a new axle and two new bearings. As a mechanic it wasn't a big deal to install, however, it would be a major inconvenience without the proper tools. All the bolts should be tightened prior to use. In addition, it took some time to get the chain tight and properly aligned. I also used the alternate drilled holes to make the steering radius tighter. We mostly use the medium speed when other kids are around but I will set it on "high" at a local jogging path to let my son open it up. Plenty of torque. Works well on grass and hills. The harness is too big and needs to be routed through the roll bar in order to stay over the shoulders. Charging is simple and has an auto shutoff to avoid overcharging. We get over 2 hours of use on medium speed and at least an hour or more on high. I have no doubt I will be replacing bearings again but it is totally worth it. My son loves this kart. ... show more

  • Electric Go Kart
The electric go kart was shipped in a lightweight metal frame with a cardboard cover. The go kart was easy to remove from the carton. The go kart appears to be sturdy. This was purchased for a 7 year old boy who is 48" tall. Upcoming use of the go kart will determine what rating we give it. Delivery was as on time. The electric go kart should not be left out in the rain. The instruction booklet was confusing because there are many typos and errors in it. The instruction booklet consisted of mixed instructions for bikes and go karts in the same paragraph. There was no company contact information given - in case of a problem or concern. ... show more
