  • Everything has limitations.
Size: 17" Mower (4.0Ah)
I’ll start off by saying this is an impressive mower in the battery operated class. Don’t make the mistake and try to compare it to a gas mower, apples and oranges. After years of using top quality gas mowers to mow a half acre at our previous home, we purchased a new home with a tiny yard. I wanted to get away from gas mowers so settled for this one since I also own an electric 2000 psi pressure washer, made by greenworks. Great product btw. Amazon shipped this mower to my doorstep in 3 days!! It was packed nicely and very easy to assemble. Battery is beefy and charged quickly. It took me 20 to 25 minutes to mow our backyard, and the battery was at 50% when I got done from a full charge. The mower starts quickly and easily and is very quiet. As others have mentioned, the bag is small, I emptied it three times mowing this 1800 square-foot section. It seems to have plenty of power and I had it on the lowest height, which was easy to raise up and down btw. This mower was exactly what I was looking for as we do not have to mow our front yard since the homeowners association does that for us. I do have one big complaint about this mower although it’s not a deal killer. Not only is the bag small, but it’s extremely permeable, so if you have a dusty lawn the dust just blows right through the bag. We have a lot of pollen on the ground right now in the south, so the yellow pollen literally was blowing all over the place and got all over the mower!!!! I do recommend this mower, however if you have thick big tall grass, and a lot of it, get you a gas powered one. Everything has limitations. Happy trails! ... show more

  • Impressed This Works!!
Size: 17" Mower (4.0Ah)
**Greenworks 17-Inch 40V Cordless Lawn Mower, 4.0Ah Battery and Charger Included MO40B411** First summer of having the yard to mow and first cordless mower. I am short and middle-aged. ↑ Very easy to put together - not much to do ↑ Battery charged quickly ↑ It's pretty :) ↑ It's a lawnmower, it makes noise - but it's not overly loud ↑ I had no problem getting the battery in/out of either the charger or the mower ↑ The battery has lights on it to show you how much charge you have ↑ The charger has lights to let you know when it is charging and charged ↑ Oh so easy to start and stop ↑ No gas to buy, no gas smell ↑ The bag is super easy to put on or take off → I wish this mower would have been cheaper (bought at $297) but if the the mower, the blades and the battery hold up, I will gratefully take that back. My Experience (and I have only used it twice so far) • When the box came, I did have to "lug" it into the garage (135 lb person here). I wouldn't describe it as weighing nothing/lightweight, but I had no problem pushing it around the yard. • Opened the box, got it out, and tightened the upper part of the arm to the lower part. Clipped the wire to the arm. Took a total of maybe 10 min. • Plugged the charger in and it took 1 hour to charge the battery. • Before you start mowing: look under the mower to make sure that everything seems tightened and there is nothing restricting movement of the blade (mine was fine, but I think everyone should check) and then check the rest of the bolts/fasteners to make sure they are tight too (just in case). • You press the button in and hold it while you pull the wire handle to the upper arm of the mower and hold it. If you release it, the mower stops. • And away I went - it is not self propelled - you have to push it yourself. I didn't have a problem at all and mowed my small backyard and one side with half of the charge. It should easily get my front yard and the other small side on one charge of the battery. But that is all I did that day. • I haven't used the bag. But I may use it in the fall to mulch leaves and not have to rake them up - it should make it easier to put them in bags (we shall see). • I absolutely love it and am thinking of getting the weedeater to use (with the same battery!) • If the battery lasts thru the summer, I am going to be thrilled to no end! ***I watched a video on YouTube before I even bought the thing, so I knew what would come and how to put it together and about the battery. I also did look at the manual. I think (hope) that the negative reviews about the battery are from people who left the battery in for a long time and/or the charger plugged in. I watched the battery and took it out when it was charged and I will always unplug the charger unless I am using it. ... show more

  • excellent technology, quality control not so much
Size: 17" Mower (4.0Ah)
Twenty years ago I owned a cordless electric rotary mower. It worked very well: I thought the technology had great promise, but this particular machine had a battery that couldn't be removed for recharging or replacement, which meant that after a couple of years the battery could no longer be charged and the machine had to be scrapped. However, I liked the way it worked: no fuel to store, no fumes to breathe, no endless tugging the cord to restart it. Looking for a new mower, I was pleased to find the Greenworks machine, which appeared to bring this technology up to date. From the reviews, however, I was concerned about the number of purchasers who had trouble getting the mower to work. So I was not altogether surprised when my son (a good mechanic) and I were unable to start the machine. After testing the battery (it was fully charged), I phoned the customer service line. A very helpful representative asked for documentation (serial number, proof of purchase) and then offered to send me a replacement. I asked about returning the unusable machine; keep it, she said, for spare parts. Within ten days a replacement arrived, worked right out of the box, and has been doing good service ever since. Evidently, the manufacturer's quality control is not equal to the machine's technology, but I'm happy to recommend their customer service to anyone who shares my experience. As a footnote, on the second day I mowed the lawn, the motor kept stalling, and I was discouraged to think that the new machine was another dud. Then I checked the blade, and, sure enough, it had picked up a length of tough nylon mason's twine (the Achilles heel of rotary mowers) - it was a cinch to dismount the blade and unwrap the twine; after that, the mower worked well. My only complaint with the machine is that the adjustment of the mowing height is not as easy as the instructions lead you to think: it can be done, but it's a bit of a hassle. Otherwise, I've found the ideal mower for a small, fragmented lawn here in green Vermont. ... show more
