The Frost has quickly become something everyone in our house gets excited about. I was honestly surprised by how fast it works. Being able to toss in ingredients and have ice cream or slushies in about 15 minutes is pretty amazing. And with the built-in chiller, there’s no prep or freezing bowls ahead of time. Just plug it in and go. I love how versatile it is. We’ve made soft-serve, sorbet, milkshakes, dairy-free treats, and even a couple of frozen cocktails. The modes and texture settings make it easy to get exactly what you want. It’s also impressively quiet, which I really appreciate. And it’s great for healthier options too; Greek yogurt, protein powder, and dairy-free milks all work really well. Purchased this product; and also the Ninja Swirl thinking I would do a comparison myself on how close to good soft serve each machine could produce. Caught both on special so the price of each was almost identical. Also bought some Dole Orange Soft Serve Mix (here on Amazon) to try out the machines. Used a Dole recipe I found online (started with 1 cup of Dole mix) and instead of the 3 cups of water in this recipe, I used 2 cups water and 1 cup whole milk. Mixed it in a large measuring cup with a whisk. Into the Greenpan the mix went; and started the machine on the default L4 setting for soft serve. (UPDATE: Later batches I used 1 cup heavy cream instead of the 1 cup whole milk to make it creamier; and set the machine to L5) All I can say is WOW....it was perfect. Dispensed into pre-chilled bowls and what a treat it was. The quantity of mix using the 1-cup Dole recipe was too much for two people (we ate it until we couldn't any more lol). Leftovers went into a pre-chilled glass container with an airtight cover and into the freezer. Next day I had orange sorbet....yum. Next was vanilla soft serve...2 cups whole milk, 3/4 cup heavy cream, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tbsp instant vanilla pudding mix powder, and 2 tsp vanilla extract. Tasty! I did bump up the cold setting to L5 to get it a little more firm. And might use slightly less vanilla extract next time. Experimentation is part of the fun. While some recipes include adding salt, I don't add salt to any of the mixes I've made. Turns out I never opened the Ninja Swirl box...it went back to the store. The Greenpan was that good. Who wants to wait 24 hours to satisfy a frozen treat craving? And what do I do with the store-bought ice cream I had in the freezer? Decisions, decisions. VERY IMPORTANT - Since this unit has an internal compressor, upon initial delivery; or if the unit has been placed on its side for any period of time, it must be allowed to sit upright for AT LEAST 2 hours (the longer the better) before turning on, to allow the compressor oil to flow back down into the bottom of the compressor. If not done, the compressor can be damaged and will significantly shorten its life. Also, I would recommend to not lift the machine by grabbing the plastic mixing chamber or the handle - it will put pressure on the slots that hold the mixing chamber onto the machine and might break them, causing a leak. So far I've made two batches of Dole mix (pineapple and orange), two batches of vanilla soft serve and one chocolate soft serve in the span of about 10 days. This is easy to use, and the size is perfect for home use. It would be a better value for the money spent if the freezing performance were better. It is acceptable and the ice cream is definitely edible. The problem is at the coldest setting it is not firm enough to layer the ice cream above the rim of an ice cream cone like you get at a restaurant, without sliding off the side. ... show more

I wish I could give a higher review because I was so excited to get this. But when I got it I let it set for a full day. I then cleaned as it said to. I tried making a slushie and it would not freeze. So I then tried ice cream, recipe from their book and it did not freeze either. So I got ahold of amazon and they could not give me a replace but did give me a refund. which I'm thankful for. Apparently there was some wrong with freezing part. It was a really nice heavy machine and I wished it had worked or it could have been replaced. I was so excited but things happen. Maybe in the future I can get another one. I did get it on sale so the next one I'll probably have to pay full price. So it will have to wait a while. ... show more

I'm on my second Frost, and after finding out some things, wouldn't recommend this purchase. 1) First Frost just didn't make hard ice cream. Tried various settings and eventually contacted support. I reported the ice cream melting almost the moment it hit the bowl. They asked how I made it (to assess sugar content). I would be contacted by the Frost team in 24-48 hours. A week later, I contacted them about the temperature of the ice cream with various settings and a day or so later got an email that a new Frost was on order for me. 2) Before the original Frost was replaced, found the bowl had cracks where it connects to unit. Did some searching and found that Greenpan will NOT sell replacement parts for the Frost. If you can get them to acknowledge you, they will do warranty repairs (hence my second Frost) but at least one online reported cracking their bowl, and Greenpan wouldn't sell a replacement. Since the problem was the users fault, no replacement, therefore a useless boat anchor is all that's left. The new Frost is pretty good, but as stated above, not recommended. Greenpan added a safety feature so the unit knows the bowl is attached, or it won't spin the mixing blades. Ice cream is soft serve and melts a bit when put in a bowl but doesn't become soup immediately. Does what it's supposed to, but not being able to get spare parts is a BIG warning sign IMO to getting a new unit. ... show more

UPDATE: contacted Greenpan with photos of small crack near latch point and model info, they sent a replacement mixing bowl! Can't wait to make more ice cream! Arrived by Amazon ON ITS SIDE, then you read directions that it won't work if not right side up. Leave it right side up according to User Manual before using. It worked great right away. All recipes require a % of sugar in order to freeze. Vanilla soft serve was very good. Have made slushies several times, kids enjoy all ice cream and slushies. Then one day the container leaked badly. Drained, cleaned thoroughly including the gasket seal (removed and cleaned) and all nooks and crannies with a small brush, gentle cleaning solution and paper towels. Replaced canister, filled with water, no leaks. Emptied and put in slushie solution. Leaked. I stopped it and didn't proceed to make slushies. Have not pursued next step of cleaning seal again or trying to replace it. The machine has been used about 6 times in 6 months, mostly in first 3 months before the leak developed. $400 is a lot to pay for something that fails after little usage. It's an investment, so I'll pursue the gasket seal issue to get it working properly again. ... show more

This Ice Cream Maker is amazing. It truly makes the best ice cream with few ingredients and very little time. I am dairy free and used almond milk and dairy free heavy whipping cream and it looked and tasted delicious. I only gave it four stars because the double wall mixing bowl is plastic instead of glass and when washed water accumulates in the double wall and there is no way to dry it out. The next day the water droplets were still there. One reviewer mentioned using a blow dryer which I did, however the plastic mixing bowl got very hot. Very frustrating! ... show more
