I'm a fairly new Blackstone owner, and not very skilled yet in moving food around with two spatulas. As a result, I've often accidentally pushed food too close to the grease drain and had it fall down into the trap. I was thinking, "Someone should invent something to prevent this" - and lo and behold, someone has. The grease gate has two magnets on the back which hold it securely to the cast iron wall of the griddle. There's a slight curve at the bottom which nestles into the drain. The color blends well into a seasoned griddle and doesn't look too out of place sticking there. Performance: I cooked a four-course meal with the grease gate in place. It stayed in place for the entire project, and did a great job keeping the food on the griddle where it belongs. I was expecting that result with the chicken, the shrimp, and the vegetable stir-fry, but was most impressed that it even worked well on fried rice. I thought the holes would be too big to hold back individual grains of rice, but only a few of them got lost. Durability: The metal is thick enough that it should not bend easily. Being made out of stainless steel, it should not rust either. It did discolor a bit with use, but that just made it match the griddle better. Pros and cons: Pros - it performs as advertised, blocking food from falling into the grease trap while still allowing grease to get through. And it looks like part of the griddle, not an afterthought. Cons - cleaning the griddle after cooking is when you actually want to push things through the grease drain, and the gate gets in the way of that while the surface will still be too hot to remove it. Fortunately, it slides out of the way fairly easily if you push it with a spatula. Value for money: It isn't cheap, but you do get two in a package. I'm not sure why; most people don't own two Blackstones. But I do expect this will pay for itself eventually with the number of steak tips and shrimp that aren't falling into the grease trap. Food is getting too expensive to waste. In short, if you own a Blackstone and are a clumsy cook like me, you won't be sorry you bought this.

So, this thing does a nice job of keeping food from falling out the back side of the Blackstone. The magnets hold very well. It still let's most of the grease pass through. It is useful for things like fried rice, shrimp, or other items small enough to fall through the grease window. But, on cooks like burgers or other greasy foods this thing almost blocks the window too well. I've found I can use my spatula just raise it up a little bit (because for some reason, I never remember to before everything gets hot) and everything works fine. So, overall, this is a nice addition to the Blackstone. For the money, it’s worth grabbing one.

This is a great solution to losing bits of food down the back of your griddle surface! The magnet is strong, and it's difficult to move around once in place. It was easy to slide down into place with my spatula. It fit the drain space perfectly without any gaps around the outside. I haven't cleaned it yet, but it will remove easily enough to be cleaned in the sink. It's a thick metal, not flimsy, and seems like it will stand up well to the heat. I didn't lose by steak bite or my eggs down the back of the griddle, so that works great! Be careful with rice or diced vegetables, though. If I decided to cook peas on my griddle I would do it in the front.

I'm not sure why the Blackstone engineers didn't figure this one out on their own and include these with the griddles. This is a "must-have" addition in my opinion. Installation is super simple... Center the gate over the grease trap hole and the magnets stick it to the back of the griddle plate and hold it in place. There is even a small bump out on the bottom of the gate that fits nicely in the indentation on the griddle. The magnets hold it firmly enough to keep it in place when in use but it's easy to push aside with the spatula come clean up time to push larger chunks of debris through the trap. With this in place I'm no longer loosing smaller food items in the grease bucket. In my opinion, this is a must have for any griddle owner.
