    • Purchase is risky, waste of money
First of all, BEWARE: buying this a sunk cost. Unlike other electronic devices, once you disconnect this, there is NO resale value. This device is exclusive to the GrandPad platform (I didn't realize how limited until actually activating it). That part might be tolerable. But, the ONLY subscription option includes a new device, so there is NO reason for someone to buy a secondhand GrandPad (except perhaps if one is dropped). We bought one for a senior who was rather isolated and in poor health. We hoped GrandPad would (along with other things) improve the quality of her life. She lived less than 3 months. So we spent around $500 for what is now trash. Evidently, GrandPad will let us return it for a lousy $75 gift card. Big wooop. To GrandPad and Amazon: this is not a good business model at all. I will never buy one for a client with longevity concerns again. Most service providers have options for "bring your own device." I work in the senior space professionally. If GrandPad were smart, they would ask senior professionals how to get a GrandPad in the hands of every senior. Instead of sharing this used device with another client or senior professional, I will return it. Other comments: if you are the family administrator, they will hound you with phone calls and emails every day in the name of "service." They also send messages to the senior every day. Stop! We couldn't figure out how to opt out of all this junk. The senior had dementia and virtually no use of her hands, so GrandPad's communications to her were useless junk we had to take time to delete, one at a time, several taps each. Ugh. There didn't seem to be any way to adjust volume--very frustrating. The calls, photos and video chats with international connectivity were the reason we bought this. Sadly, very few family members used it. I do not think I will ever purchase this for a senior client again for the reasons listed above. ... show more

    • Every senior should have a Grandpad!
I cannot recommend Grandpad strongly enough. The product, the service, the function, and the customer care are exemplary. This has become my 90-year-old mother's primary way of connecting to family photos, email, video phone calls, and other services. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

    • Get the protection plan
I bought the grandpad for my mother who has dementia and is now living in a home. At first the grandpad worked like a dream, then we started having issues with dropped calls…like 5 times in one conversation I would have to call back. Now after 18 months the speakers are failing. You would think that a device marketed to the elderly would take into account that they might have hearing issues and would turn the volume up all the way which would wear out normal speakers faster. While this device is useful, it is not without its issues. MAKE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN YOU PURCHASE THE ELECTRONIC PROTECTION PLAN! I did not and now I have to buy an entirely new device after only a year and a half. Do not make my mistake. ... show more

GrandPad is such an amazing product! First of all, it is set-up and ready to go right out of the box. It is so easy to use, Mom can call us for a video call with a touch of a button, she literally just has to touch our picture on the screen! She has experienced some hearing loss and the premium speakers on the GrandPad help to ensure that she can hear every word on our calls. Mom is really enjoying the games on her GrandPad, especially Solitaire and Free Cell. Last but not least, the private network gives my wife and I piece of mind knowing that Mom is protected from phishing scams while using her tablet.
