Excellent lights, exceptional support — plan your installation carefully I waited until completing a fairly complicated whole-house installation before writing this review. After all the planning, experimenting and troubleshooting, I can confidently give the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro five stars — and a significant part of those five stars is for Govee's customer support. First, understand the installation requirements. These are not ordinary low-voltage lights where you can casually extend the cable any distance with whatever wire is available. I wanted my power supplies and controllers hidden in a central structured-media enclosure, which required a long run before the first light. I experimented with several cable arrangements, including regular signaling/fire-alarm cable, CAT6, custom extensions and combinations with the supplied Govee extension cables. That became an interesting experiment. CAT6 behaved somewhat better than ordinary cable, but none of my long controller-to-first-light experiments were reliable enough for a permanent installation. Eventually I stopped trying to fight the design and extended the DC power to the controller instead, keeping the controller and its data connection close to the first light. That worked reliably. This is also where Govee support was outstanding. I sent them some fairly technical questions about maximum distances, extensions, the driver module, number of segments, placement of the driver and whether branching/Y-splitting was supported. Their representative was knowledgeable, answered the actual questions instead of sending generic responses, replied promptly and continued following up. They explained the limitations of the system and helped me redesign the installation correctly. During the project my 150-ft unit also developed a problem. I had already performed extensive troubleshooting but could no longer isolate the failure to the power supply, controller or light strings. Govee worked with me through the issue and ultimately sent a replacement unit. Their handling of the warranty/RMA gave me considerably more confidence in making this a permanent installation. Mounting deserves some planning as well. The supplied adhesive may work perfectly on some soffit materials, but every house is different. Surface material, texture, temperature, sun exposure and weather all matter. Other owners have similarly reported everything from years of success with properly prepared adhesive to needing additional clips or mounts, so I would not assume one mounting method fits every house. My installation eventually took an unusual direction that I actually prefer to the standard installation. Instead of putting the pucks underneath the soffit facing downward, I mounted them to the fascia facing inward toward the house. The pucks and wires are almost completely invisible during the day. At night the light reflects across the soffit and wall, creating broad semicircular washes of color. It looks more like architectural/ambient lighting than a row of Christmas lights, which was exactly the effect I wanted. My fascia material is thin, so screws were not practical everywhere. I used a combination of JB Weld and double-sided mounting tape where appropriate. That is simply what worked for my particular fascia; other homes may be better suited to the supplied adhesive, screws, clips or dedicated mounts. I would choose the attachment method according to the soffit/fascia material and local weather rather than blindly following one method. As for the lights themselves, color saturation is excellent. Reds, greens, blues and mixed colors look rich, and the individual control/effects provide far more possibilities than traditional permanent exterior lighting. With my inward-facing installation, even lower brightness levels produce a beautiful ambient wash because the house itself becomes the reflecting surface. There was definitely more experimentation involved in my installation than I expected, but the finished result was worth it. The lights look fantastic, the installation is practically invisible during daylight, and I no longer have seasonal lights and wires hanging from the roofline. Most importantly, Govee stood behind the product. Knowledgeable technical answers, timely responses, continued follow-up and ultimately replacing the failed unit are exactly what I hope for when buying a product intended to remain permanently installed on a house. Just a few pointers

I buy many things based on the reviews and I hope this helps when deciding to spend this kind of money. First, I needed the 150 length @ $600. I followed one reviewer who said she waited til Prime Day and got them much cheaper. Since I was in no hurry and read her review last winter, I put a price alert on them and sure enough, Prime Day came around and they dropped to $389. So if you can wait, then wait. Ok. The lights. On the installation end, again reviews, do not trust the 3M adhesive. 3M is a great company, but Mother Nature wins out on this one. The lights themselves come with clips you screw in on both sides of the light and, honestly, looks bad. Plus the Phillips screw slots are too small to handle most screw drivers. They sell after market brackets that fit over the light and screw into place. So the way I did it, measure your distance, or chalk line, use the adhesive to temporarily stick into place, then follow up with the brackets. Now the bad news about these brackets. The screw slot is acceptable, but man them screws are small. When you’re 66 and have arthritis, you spend a lot of time picking up dropped screws. Also, I have the vented soffit with the recess every so often. As much as you don’t want it to happen, some of your lights will end up directly over one of the recesses and you’ll need longer screws. But final product looks well worth it. I bought the pro version because I knew I was going to have to cut a couple of strands and you can do this with pro. Splitter. It does not come with any splitters so if you are going to need one you have to buy it separately. And here’s something I found out about splitters. I wanted to turn on just a few perimeter lights on white for accent lighting and the procedure is pretty straightforward. But once I wanted to light one of the lights past the splitter it also lit a light before the splitter. Not a huge deal but something to keep in mind. The instructions for setup are pretty standard as far as WiFi, password etc goes, but the actual operation of these things is so vast, I had to watch a YouTube video several times and still have a ton to learn. They do so many things. An example is you can join the community where everyone shows off their lights and patterns. If you see one you really like, you send it on over and now your lights do the same. How cool is that? The video on YouTube is demonstrated by Tech with Brett and is 27:44 long. Great tutorial, a must watch. Several times. These lights are top of line, state or the art and really beautify your home. I give them an A+ ... show more

These lights were a breeze to install. I had to install 1 x 2’s on the eaves but it was worth it because afterwards I just stuck the lights up to that and it looks great. Impressive.

I did the research before buying this. I was on the fence for a along time, due to the price. After I had them up they are pretty cool and I am happy with the purchase. I would purchase again. You can view some presets on videos that others are using on the app and apply/save what you like. I love that I no longer have to put up Christmas lights every year. I would constantly run into bad bulbs on traditional Xmas lights and to find the specific bulb is a nightmare. As far as installation, its straight forward and easy. luckily I only had to splice 1 male end and 1 female end. The directions said to use a tool, but I used what I had on hand (exacto knife and wire stripper) to strip the jacket expose the wires. So after the splice, (and moving one section towards the center of the run) I was worried about the lights being out of sync. Govee has some pretty good tech because it worked flawlessly without having to do anything. After splicing and making adjustments on length I purchased some (Gardner Bender 1/2" NM) staples to sporadically secure the wires a little better to my soffit. The brightness and color range are great. I'm the first in my neighborhood to install lights like these so my home stands out. I have it set to turn on by itself at night with a warm soft white (like security lights) and turn off in the morning. When it turns back on by itself it will return to the last chosen theme. Cool Tip: If you like different themes and want them to change often you can set that. For example: I had 6 different Christmas themes that I liked, but didnt want to manually change them out so I used the "Auto Play" function to make them change every five minutes. I loved this during Christmas because it wasn't the same thing over and over. Its like a little light show. Prior to purchase, the installation had me questioning whether I was able to do this without to much difficulty. Well TBH it took me less time to put these up than my traditional Xmas lights. Nothing but issues

For now, my review is limited to the install. I will update my review once I have been able to use them for a period of time. Initially, I was frustrated with the lack of information. I wanted to order everything needed to do the install so I wasn't in a position where I started and then had to order more stuff to complete the job. I had a few areas where I expected to splice, and it wasn't clear as to what is in the box. The box includes the lights (9 strands), the power adapter, the controller, 3 connector kids, 2 short extension cables, 2 longer extension cables, extra adhesive pads, and plastic cable clips with screws. I thought I would need to purchase a connector kit (which was not available for purchase). Fortunately, there are some in the box. A few things to point out. The plastic clips with screws are not good. First, there are not enough. The included screws are completely useless. It comes with several pouches, each with 7 or 8 sets. With each pouch, 2 or 3 screws would be bad. They do not screw into the soffit easily. The screws are so cheap that the strip. Several of them had the head break off the screw when installing. Lastly, these are not likely something you want to use as a permanent solution, as they will likely rust after a few months. If you are looking for a 'permanent' solution, I would get better stainless steel screws. The power adapter is clearly labeled as indoor use only. I have seen this from other reviewers as well. I expect that if you install this outdoors, it will fail. The controller, which installs between the power adapter and the first strand, is not labeled as indoor/outdoor. I'm going to assume it's indoor-only as well. The lights come with adhesive on each light. I have read reviews where folks have paid installers and were disappointed the lights started to fall after a short time. They then had to pay the installer a second/third time to do the install. Well duh! I would not expect to use adhesive outdoors. I was able to splice my lights a few times successfully - it was a painless process. Be sure to have the right tools. The lights are bright and look great. You can connect to Apple Home, but functionality is limited. You can turn on/off and select a color. However, 95% of the features are going to be controlled via the Govee app. My goal is to control the on/off scheduling via Apple automations. I prefer to keep my scheduling all in one place. I will update my review later with the results. ***** Went from 4 stars to 1 star ***** Govee has nothing but connectivity issues and zero support. I reached out and in return only received 3 messages thanking me for being a valued customer. I passed the return window, so I have just wasted almost $400. I am beyond disappointed with Govee. I really love these lights! There are plenty of light combos for just about any holiday or occasion you can think of. Oddly, though, there is no preset for “red, white & blue” for patriotic holidays like the 4th of July, etc. There was one major problem where the power supply and controller fried on initial power-up, seemingly due to a quality control issue with one of the strands of lights (assembled incorrectly at point of manufacture). However, Govee immediately sent out replacements. I had the lights installed by a professional electrician, who also installed the Snap track system, not sold here (I’m sorry to say). Just go to “my snap track . Com” (no spaces). The track systems sold here are not good. The installer rooted out the above wiring problem. Pairing with the app was a breeze. In closing, do yourself a favor and have them installed with the track system. I’ve seen homeowners put them up themselves without the track system. The wiring hanging down is a huge distraction. It’ll cost you more, but it’s worth it! The lights look great, as does the track system, as you’ll see in the photos, plus you’ll never have to climb a ladder to get your lights up ever again! Added bonus: if you have to deal with an HOA, they won’t harass you to take your Xmas lights down! Highest recommendation! ... show more

Excellent Lighting System — Plan for Installation Upgrades

These lights look fantastic once installed. The brightness and color control are impressive, and the RGBIC effects allow for smooth transitions and distinct segment control along the 100-foot run. They work well for both everyday accent lighting and holiday displays, and the scene modes make it easy to change the look without constant adjustment. Once mounted, they give a clean, permanent appearance rather than a temporary string-light feel. Installation, however, is not simple. Depending on your home and comfort level with mounting and routing wiring, this may be a project that requires professional help. I completed the install myself, but it took planning and careful layout to make it look right. I’m also not a fan of the included adhesive mounts. Even though I followed the surface prep instructions carefully, about a third of them began failing over time. It may have been a surface prep issue, but I ultimately had to go back and purchase screw-on clips to secure the lights properly. Once I did that, the system felt much more permanent and secure. The reason this isn’t a 5-star rating is the installation complexity and the adhesive reliability.
