It lays flat even though it came rolled up, the grips at the bottom really are non-slip and it’s spacious enough to use for both my dog’s slower feeder bowl and a water bowl. It’s hard to tell from a small photo but these mats have little raised nubs on them. I haven’t had a harder time keeping them clean due to this so far, but it does seem less hygeinic. I don’t think they are necessary on a pet feeding mat, and I’m concerned that one of my cats might chew on them or end up consuming parts of the mat because it is designed this way. I would not have ordered this one if I had realized these were like this, and I much prefer the other mats I have that are not textured. In other respects it is fine. It is flexible, water resistant, really does seem to be silicon, has no unpleasant odor, and the cats like it ok. We have spare mats so it is easy to change them out and wash them, and we store our extra mats rolled up with Velcro cord wraps so they fit in the cupboard more easily. It is much easier than scrubbing pet food off of the floor.
