  • In My Application, Superior to Basic Boat Trailer Winch
Style: Drill Drive Size: 1500 lb Capacity
This is a dandy machine, ideal for cranking my cycle kart and other small, wheeled vehicles into my pickup bed. Well built, burly even, and simpler than the ratchet type in that gravity cannot overcome the worm-gear design.

  • A drill powered winch
Style: Drill Drive Size: 2000 lb Capacity
Winch is pretty well made and worked just fine under no load. I greased up the worm gear and bearings. The technique to attach the cable is very unusual and difficult to get tight. Update I still like the winch. However the technique to attach the cable to the winch by weaving in in the 3 holes (1/2 inch) is unsuitable. The cable keeps working loose. The cable I am using is 3/16 stainless steel. Very springy. I found a better technique I put 2 10-32 stainless steel bolts and washers with lock nuts in with the cable in the holes. Stainless was used for a marine environment. Based on several uses I would probably recommend the largest size bolt that can fit with your cable and put this in all three holes with cable. See picture BTW this cable attachment technique is not approved by Dutton-Lainson and in this regard my not be safe for everyone. Test your own attachment technique. ... show more

  • Fantastic winch!
Style: Drill Drive Size: 1500 lb Capacity
I use this to raise/lower 30ft of 1-1/2” galvanized steel pipe that’s home to a couple weather arrays. I needed something that would not jerk the arrays around so it had to be very smooth operating. I also needed something that would lock without slipping even a tiny bit while locking/unlocking. Lastly, I needed something I could operate by hand or by power. This winch is rock solid, is smooth as silk in operation, and stays put expectations where I put it without messing around with locks and ratchets. It’s a bit pricey and doesn’t come with any steel rope. But installing the rope was a breeze and took only about 10 minutes. I highly recommend! ... show more

  • Great value
Style: Drill Drive Size: 2000 lb Capacity
This works perfect for me I use it on a floating float to pull boat hoists out and the 5/8 is great to use on drill to winch

  • Improvement over the Harbor Friegt
Style: Drill Drive Size: 2000 lb Capacity
Went with the Harbor Freight one originally and itself destructed, in about a day 6-8 cycles of testing. Not only that, it was worm geared backwards, which I believe may have contributed to its downfall. This one seems much nicer. Using it to lift a retractable staircase that uses a block and tackle style setup for the cables. So I am nowhere near its weight capacity. Using with 3/16 cable. Doesn't come with the cable, so just be aware of that. With the forty 21 gear ratio and the block and tackle system, it does take forever to lift and lower. But it is nice that it holds position. ... show more

  • Outstanding USA company and product.
Style: Drill Drive Size: 2000 lb Capacity
Before purchasing I contacted Dutton-Lainson and spoke with tech support (in USA & English!) no rediculous menus or messages to deal with! Tech support was outstand and answered all my technical engineering questions to my satisfaction (I am an engineer) . Product is USA mfg of all steel with hardened gears. My application is a 55 ft telescoping tower for antennas. 20V Dewalt drill easily raises tower sections and antennas, very easy to hand crank also but takes longer because of 40:1 gear ratio. I keep this winch covered from weather elements. Highly recommend this company and their products! ... show more

  • Buy 50ft 7/32 wire. Use drill mode and not hammer mode. Be safe everyone!
Style: Drill Drive Size: 2000 lb Capacity
Great little setup when you don’t have power. Lifted a 500lb metal beam yesterday. It was pretty tiresome to say the least but the drill helped out a lot. Milwaukee ftw. Don’t use it on hammer mode b/c I promise you you’ll break the gears on the winch - they are not case harden to such harshness. Adjust the drill to speed 1 and then go to town. I’m using a concrete mixer drill next time around - those things have gobs of toque @ 500rpm. I will be welding a plate to the bottom to extend mounting holes and adding A fairlead. It’s just that worth it when you don’t have a car battery 😂. Cons since mines portable I have to remove the rear brace to install 3/8 anchors to secure the winch. That’s a pita. Even if I didn’t, screw holes should be more accessible. I hope the worm gear is sitting on bearings b/c mine was smoking a little. A little expensive. You can get one with 2k for under $70 but yeah - I don’t trust it. Attaching cable is kinda lame but there is t any more room To spare for a compact unit like this. Pros. Compact, detachable handle, light weight, gears are welded well ... show more

  • gear ratio too low
Style: Drill Drive Size: 1500 lb Capacity
Too high, or too low???? Not sure, but it takes forever to winch anything up. I use it to winch up a train table. There is no way I could do it with the manual crank. It isn't difficult to do, just takes sooooo many cranks. I use an impact wrench with a bit. It does the job, but I need to stop to make sure i don't burn out the motor. ... show more
