Its capstan drum concept allows users to pull loads over an unlimited length of rope, without loss of power, in a simple, effective, and safe way. In addition, a wide range of accessories has been designed specifically to carry it over long distances such as the Molded Pack Frame and Transport Case! The proven reliability of Honda engines, combined with Portable Winch ingenuity, makes the PCW3000 a formidable competitor on the market. The winch can pull up to 700 kg without mechanical advantage. By adding a pulley system, you can go up to five times (5x) the pulling force. That means, with two double pulleys, you could move up to 3,500 kg!

I live on a 300’ ridge on an island, and presently the only way for me to get heavy items up from the beach is a cable hoist. I have been manually pulling up lighter loads but needed help on anything over 50 pounds. Regular winches don’t offer a 300’ reach, so a capstan winch was needed. This unit is high quality, with a small Honda motor, and is very easy to use. Once I had it, I began finding other uses for it. UPDATE AFTER 6 MONTHS: Was working well, albeit slow, but suddenly the automatic clutch gave out, and now the motor does not engage the drum Very disappointed. Expected better from a machine with a Honda motor. The speed is better than standard winches, but I wish it could pull faster, since I don’t need the gearing for pulling anything more than about 150 pounds. I’ve learned that its big brother, the 5000 can provide a faster speed by swapping out the standard hub with a larger one, but the 3000 doesn’t take the larger hub. So, if you want the capability of a faster speed, go with the 5000 for a few hundred dollars more. ... show more

What a cool concept. I was lucky enough to draw a wild bison tag so I purchased this after seeing people extract moose with them. I’ve already skidded some logs around for firewood and can’t be happier. Very portable and easy to operate. Price is a bit steep but this is a once in a lifetime tag. Hopefully it will be moving bison meat soon. ... show more

    • Light starts easily plenty of power
Wished the description said it came with a strap. I bought an extra strap one to hook to the anchor and one to hook to the object being moved. No worries put the spare in the truck for a tow strap. The winch works well and light enough to carry into the woods.

    • Five Times as Expensive as a Vehicle Mounted Winch, and Still Worth the Price
Just the right tool for the job. If you're in a space where you can't bring a vehicle mounted winch this is the tool that will do the job, safely, and efficiently. I had to pull several floating docks out of a lake and pull them up onto a steep bank. I placed two 16" 2x10s under the floats and in less than a day the job was complete. I pulled the docks up with hand winches and AC winches powered by a generator previously. There is no comparison. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This is a fantastic portable winch. Easy to use. With amazing power. But it needs a 10 to 13 mm rope. The 5/8 inch rope I bought was far too big. A 10 mm rope is ideal.

    • Little disappointed
I bought this for retrieving moose for clients. This seemed to struggle and died out pulling a 900lb animal. Guess I expected more. Additionally the plastic part that holds the throttle cable broke, but that may have been my fault for the way it was transported in a tote.

    • It will pull an Elk
Used it to pull two cow Elk 300 feet at a time, and never got above half throttle. I lifted the Elk (using a tree) above the bed of my truck, I never got above quarter throttle. Power to spare! This is a game changer on where I'm now willing to hunt! Rope diameter does matter.
