Description

The orange blossom 250 (OB-250) represents the staple of our bluegrass-style banjo line. It has been one of the highest selling banjos in the Gold Tone line for the last 15 years and is the basis of many inspired additions going above and beyond the call of Duty. The OB-250 has been newly redesigned in 2007 to include a more modern appeal still holding on to its vintage and proven design. Features include the popular curly maple Binding on the maple neck and resonator, gt-master Planetary tuners, hearts & flowers inlay, one- piece curly maple veneer on the resonator, straight-line tailpiece, and a new gorgeous Tobacco Brown finish. Despite the new additions, this banjo is a tone monster. The flat-top 20-Hole bell brass tone ring coupled with a 3-ply Canadian Maple rim and a complete setup at the Gold Tone factory in Florida, this banjo, or any of the other Orange blossom models, will be the last banjo you will ever need! .

Pros: 1.) Good price for a banjo with the bells and whistles 2.) Lifetime warranty 3.) Ok sound 4.) Nice finish 5.) Most bang for your buck - take your savings and buy another goodie Cons: 1.) Fretboard looks as though it was made with a hatchet. There are large unfilled gaps around the inlay and some of the inlay is recessed below the level of the fretboard. Two of the frets had burs on them and not all of the frets are flush with the fretboard. There's a buzz on the 3rd string, which I haven't been able to place yet. I registered my warranty with Goldtone and told them about the low quality neck, but never heard anything back from them except that they are trying to improve the quality of their necks. They should have replaced the neck. 2.) Heavy 3.) Gloss finish on neck is sticky 4.) The case was already delaminating as it came out of the box 5.) Has a 'ringy' tone 6.) Tuners are quite sticky 7.) Maple binding looks sloppy as well. Gaps must have been filled in with large amounts of resin or finish. Because of the poor workmanship of the neck and Goldtone's lack of concern, I would NOT RECOMMEND this banjo. I'm almost afraid to take off the resonator and see the workmanship that's been hidden out of view. I would stick to the brands that are made here in the U.S. and that care about the quality of their products. ... show more

Amazon recently had a rare sale on a few of their good quality banjos, and I was able to get this instrument at an excellent price. At such a large discount I wondered if there was some problem with the instrument, if it was a "factory second" (whatever that means). It arrived in a heavy shipping carton with no defects or issues of any kind. Even at the usual retail price the OB-250 is a good value in a full-volume bluegrass banjo. It has all the same features found in banjos costing three times as much: cast brass tone ring, 3 ply maple rim, one-piece cast flange, ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl inlay, real bone nut, Grover bridge, straight-line tailpiece, solid planetary tuners with leather washers. Just picking it gives a feel of quality because it weighs just as much as the classic banjos it is modeled after. The OB-250's tone is slightly different from other banjos in its price class. It's hard to describe the differences between different brand instruments: better to play some and hear it for yourself. But the volume level and clarity of this banjo hold their own with more expensive instruments. ... show more

shipment arrived right on time.. well packed in factory carton.. some issues..tho.. price was good. upon inspection three things,, the strings were not as closed to frets as i would have liked.. the bridge was in place instead of laying flat for shipping.. the resonator hardware was not installed properly . only one was tight to the wood. one was not seated next to rim as needed.. cant fix that. the tailpiece , screw is not installed paralel to the rim. slanted. tried to loosen and realign. but only helped some...very difficult to attach the resonator back on the banjo.. i now see why price reflected lower than average. was disapointed no case was included . but i knew that when ordering. ... show more
