When you really need one, it's good to have one that actually works. I was skeptical since there are so many metal detectors listed on Amazon. But this one worked great and helped me find lost vehicle keys after many hours of searching a rather large stretch of grass. It also fit (collapsed) in a backpack, which was great as I had to hike to my target search area. I only used the max sensitivity setting, and it really was sensitive and alerting to metal which must have been burried. That slowed down the search process, but I wasn't experienced enough to reduce the sensitivity and risk not finding my keys. Amazon delivered it overnight, which was also amazing.

We exchanged the first one because it wouldn’t even turn on. We thought we got a lemon, it happens. The second one also won’t stay on. Display lights up for a second but then immediately turns off and won’t work. My son is very disappointed

I was able to pick up some coins I tossed down in the grass as a test, they all showed up as "Silver" in the detection mode. I like that there are different frequency beeps for the 3 types of indications, I can be looking at the ground and not at the screen to know what I've found. There is so much metal debris around my house, probably from the construction trash long ago. This comes with a little E-tool that has a pick end. This part is flimsy and is best for soft soils and sand. The shovel doesn't really collapse, you have to take it apart to fit it in the included bag. As far as the detector unit itself, I'm happy with it. I was able to assemble it at the kitchen table in a few minutes, and the included 9v batteries work fine. It has a little sway in the pole, but most of that goes away if you tighten the plastic compression rings. If I was shopping for a higher end detector, I'd want one that is easier to fold or collapse for storage. In my case I'll be travelling to places I want to use the detector, which means I want it to take up minimal space in the vehicle. One last thing: It was easy enough for my 11 year old kids to run around and find things on their own. It's that user friendly.

Didn't everyone want one of these when they were a kid? (or a kid at heart) It's mainly plastic and aluminum, but it looks and feels good, and feels solid. It assembles easily, can be adjusted in height/length, and is solid when you're done adjusting it -- no wobbly points anywhere. The display screen is nice and big, and gives indicators for the "type" of metal it detects, an indicator showing how "deep" it is (up to about 6" or so), and it gives an audible indicator that matches what it detects so you don't have to keep staring at the display screen. It comes with a headset, which keeps your work silent for everyone else (nothing worse than trying to relax at the beach or lake and some guy comes walking by beeping constantly) and lets you pick out the sounds better. The headphones actually sound pretty good, even though it's just beep noises. Or you can use the built-in speaker. I haven't tried immersing the sensor disk underwater yet, and I'm not sure I would generally do this anyway, but it's nice to know that a little water won't hurt the sensor if I come across a puddle or want to check a little bit away from the shoreline. This isn't as good as a high-end metal detector, obviously, but if you want to have fun hunting for metal things that aren't too deep, you might enjoy this as I will. Oh ya... I guess the kids could use it too.

Every lose a piece of jewelry or keys in the yard and panic? I ordered because I have lived in an area with a lot of history....indian village, civil war battle line, golf course, to name a few. I have not found anything of value yet but I have not been able to spend a lot of time with the detector. Star Rating System (What do my star ratings mean?): 1 STAR - Completely unusable, would request a refund 2 STAR - Meets minimum viable product requirements, wouldn't purchase it again 3 STAR - It does what it should, but in a non-spectacular way, I may recommend it, but definitely with reservations 4 STAR - I like it. It is solid quality and delivers as advertised, I would purchase it again and recommend it to a friend 5 STAR - I love it. It meets or exceeds all of my expectations and is high quality, I would purchase it again and would openly promote it to friends As an Amazon Vine Member, I give honest reviews, whether or not it is a good one or a bad one. I'm a person who immediately checks reviews on everything, and I understand how important an honest and thoughtful review is.
