  • RAT OWNERS: This is perfect, with alterations!
I got this for my rats. Originally, I bought two! They adored this, finding favorite spots in various corners and having enough room to run and play. The only issue, is I got them at a young age. They were able to squeeze through the bars. I had relied on a few reviews to assure me this was a good size but unfortunately it was something I'd blame myself for. After having built this with the assistance of my boyfriend (It's VERY difficult and likely not doable to construct this cage on your own), he had to rush to a store at night to buy a small temporary cage so we could spend the night and following day zip tying metal chicken wire (or something of the sort) around the cage, and cage doors. It was pesky, and the extra alteration makes cleaning the cage a lot more annoying than it would without the cage. I do want to give props because I've washed the cage with a hose and I've patted dry majority of the cage, but still.. Even air drying, I haven't seen any rust. Woo! Since my first purchase of this cage, one of my rats passed away (the cause was completely unrelated to the cage) and I got four more rats after mourning. This cage is excellent for them. It provides spaces for all of them, two babies, three adult rats. (3 weeks to 13+ weeks). It's small enough, however, to get messy FAST. I've tried exploring different ways to clean it, and added some other alterations to the cage like adding wire sides to the tray you can make as the floor so the babies can't potentially squeeze out through a small gap. With the mesh, it's very difficult to remove the floor levels, and they can break very easily if a human is struggle to unclamp them from the bars, so be careful. My rats have four levels because my boyfriend accidentally broth the 5th the night we put this together. Overall, it's a great cage don't get me wrong! It's worth the price, it can home plenty of rats. It's ideal for aduly rats, I think. Fully grown, maybe a year or so. Even more so if they're chubby, to avoid the risk of them squeezing through the bars. I wouldn't recommend getting this cage unless you plan to use it for when your rats are 13+ weeks old and well fed. It would be a GREAT cage to upgrade your younger rats to when they are old enough! ... show more

  • For adult rats only
I am obsessed with this cage!! I bought it because it was a reasonable price for the size. I was concerned because it’s for my two rats. One is an adult and one is just 6 weeks old… now that the adult is cozy I do not think he could get out. He is about 10 months old. The baby however, would totally be able to get through the bars without even trying. The spacing is the size of a quarter… so if you are concerned about your small pet escaping it can. Overall, the quality is really nice and I assembled it by myself. The plastic shelves and slides are attachable so that makes me feel safer. I bought the white cage because it was the cheaper option. It’s actually pretty cute, though I would’ve preferred the black cage. **always wash new animal cages/supplies when you can ... show more

  • Not for Rats
It's a big pain to set up when half the screw holes don't align, and you have to bend metal that's not the most pliable. It's not fit for an average-sized rat. They can sneak on through those bars any day, so if you don't want free roam rats, this cage aint it. In terms of size, it's massive- plenty of room for their shenanigans- and honestly not bad, aside from the above mentioned issues. It is a great cage...just not for rats. ... show more

  • Nice cage, but Not for Rats
Bought for our two big, fat, adult pet rats. They climb right out. Otherwise well made.

  • Adult rats are able to exit the cage through the gap between the space bars.
Advertised as a product that is suitable for adult rats. Adult rats can, in fact, move easily in and out if the cage due to the large spacing between the bars of the cage. Highly problematic results from rats escaping cage between bar spacing.

  • So easy to take apart the levels to clean. Lots of room for my two rats

  • IF YOUR ANIMAL POOPS PELLETS, GREAT CAGE. IF NOT, BAD CAGE. Assembling it was not too challenging
The cage was fine, not too hard to build with 2 people. But after having it for a while, I do not think it's good for ferrets. It was a nice home for mine but ferrets poop in corners, the poop will fall off the side out of the cage or get stuck between the shelves and the bars and its so difficult to clean up. IF YOUR ANIMAL POOPS PELLETS, ITS A GREAT CAGE. IF THEY HAVE NORMAL ONES, NOT A GOOD CAGE. HARD TO CLEAN. ... show more

  • Bars are spaced too far apart to hold rats.
I really like the design and the assembly was quick and easy. Unfortunately, the bars are too wide to secure my two rats.
