The metal is more gold than brass (I wanted gold so bonus to me). I kept the cords/plugs, but will likely wrap or paint them to blend into my dark wall. Super easy installation, I used a drill and a hand screwdriver. YES, all the reviews that say it won’t mount flush are true, but just shim it with cardboard from the box it came in. I purchased these lights for either side of my bed. They can screwed into the wall (screws provided) or you can attach them to the wall with the adhesive provided. They plug in with a convenient on/off switch. They look great, but no matter how hard I tried; they would not level out - they always sloped forward.
