  • Great travel router, but probably not worth the upgrade
Works great. Took it out to my recent hotel for a test drive. A bit of a learning curve for the set up (I am somewhat technically adept, with lots of devices already). But after a little, I had it connected to my hotel WiFi with the wireless captive portal no problem, via Ethernet and tethered to my iPhone. Additionally I got my home VPN(s) set up on it, and if I had a third party one it would have been a breeze. Definitely makes it easy to travel as no more setting up everyone’s devices. I look forward to brining it to some all inclusive trips abroad and maybe even on a cruise to see if it works ok. Additionally, in a pinch it would be a band aid failover if my router at home died and I needed to keep things running while I got my main gateway RMA’d. I didn’t have the pervious one, so I can’t comment on its bulk compared to the other iterations, but definitely stout little fellow. The screen is of a little bit of use, but not like amazingly so. Same for WiFi 7, since there is no 6ghz band I don’t care. Plus it’s not like a lot of places offer crazy fast internet speeds in hotels and such. If I had the other variant, I wouldn’t upgrade. However I don’t regret spending more coin if you will on the latest and greatest (for now) ... show more

  • ABSOLUTELY Killer little travel router!
OK - this little guy is outrageous performance and capability for a portable router - i run it off a 10,000mah battery for about 6 or 7 hours...or a 20,000 mah battery gets me through a full long day without a problem. USB C power is absolutely game changing for me - can run it anywhere now - can even run powered off many modern phones that support power bank mode. Open WRT under the hood, so most anything supported for that works out of the box. being a brand new release for this brand, some community open wrt plugins arent working yet as of this moment. My favorite feature? can connect to any wifi hotspot, including any mobile hotspot from your phone - so basically i can have my own network anywhere on the go and VPN back to my home network from anywhere. Have been waiting for a travel router this good for decades! ... show more

  • Great Buy.
This device boasts a range of impressive features, such as VPN, Wireguard, server and client setup capabilities, compatibility with USB 2 and 3, and support for Wi-Fi 7 and 6. It is designed to facilitate logins to business sign-in portals. Additionally, it offers guest network profiles, parental device options, a display with an action slider, and a 2.5 WAN port. Furthermore, it supports optional app installation and consumes approximately 3.5 to 4 watts of power, generating heat that reaches 60 to 63 degrees Celsius in a room temperature of 73 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The fan activates at 70 degrees Celsius, and the device requires a 9V 3A power supply. While it is relatively portable, it may not be as lightweight or compact as older AC travel routers, and it may be considered expensive for those on a budget. It appears to be a suitable device for individuals with numerous devices or families on the go, allowing for a single setup to connect everyone. Seems reliable in weeks work of testing. ... show more

  • It works as it should. Great value
This is a great value for all the power, features and apps (for free) available using the OpenWrt OS. It's very compact, useful for tunneling a secure network connection over public WiFi, such as hotels, airports... I'm using the axt1800 for my home network that has 38 nodes, including a mesh system for wifi and IoT devices. The only reason I returned the BE3600 is that there was not enough significant advantage to upgrading vs the need to manually re-configure everthing. I even tried to copy the "etc" folder which broke WLAN but everything else worked. It works well. But the ease of setup is not good when trying to migrate from an older device to a newer hardware model. I recommend this product for those willing to setup manually as new. ... show more

  • Travel Router & Security in one container!
I purchased this device so that I could secure the wireless devices my family use while traveling PLUS I have some security cameras that I use only while traveling that are connected to this device. I have a VPN Client connection set up so that ONLY the gl.iNET device is ‘seen’ by the network; all other clients go through the gl.iNET device with has VPN enabled. This requires a little effort to set up devices, but once set up, you just have to select the wireless network for mobile devices, tablets, etc. ... show more

  • Reliable Travel Router with Excellent Support
I bought this travel router along with the Flint 2. I was able to set up the WireGuard VPN server without any issues, but I ran into problems while configuring the VPN client. I reached out to the GL.iNet technical support team, and they helped me resolve the issue quickly.

  • Please reboot/power cycle asap to see if dl/up speeds remain consistent
Initial download speeds would run at 300 Mbps but as soon as I power cycled or rebooted the device, it would drop to 30 Mbps. Spent the whole day troubleshooting and decided to call it quits. I'm also using a Slate 6 with the same exact factory configuration for benchmark testing. I reached out to gl.inet and received no response. This is a travel router and I intend to disconnect and reconnect the power often. I can't have slow speeds knowing the old gen Slate 6 produces 300Mpbs+. Additional cons vs Slate 6: It's one port less and no longer has a sd-card slot. Getting a refund via Amazon and calling it. Would not recommend at all. ... show more
