Updated: Expected better for a $200+ hose reel
Size: 100 ft Capacity with Hose
Out of the box the hose reel seems sturdy and well made. They include 4 expansion bolts with the reel to mount it to the wall and suggest only drilling in 2.1” so the bolts are snugly in the wall. However, I’ve not yet come across a piece of drywall that is that thick…so after drilling and inserting the bolts, the anchors ended up freely moving around, rendering them useless. I ended up mounting a couple 2x4s to the studs in my wall and then mounting the reel to that with lag bolts of my own. On to the reel itself, after my install fiasco, I wound/unwound it and thought everything worked pretty smoothly. I really liked the automatic guidance “system” to keep the hose from rolling up in just one spot. Then I connected the leader hose to my faucet and turned it on. Water sprays everywhere. Turns out the connection from the leader hose to the reel itself was loose. Had to tighten it. Turned the water back on and again noticed a slow drip. The connection from the 100’ hose itself to the reel was loose and had to tighten THAT. Moral of the story - tighten connections before turning on the water. After I got the connections straightened out, I took the hose for a test run by running it to some sprinklers to water my grass. Everything was working well until I went to roll it back up. The gear that connects to the handle that in turn moves the guidance system came undone. Upon inspection, it looks like there’s just enough give on both sides of the rod that holds the guidance system in place to make this a common occurrence. I’m not sure if my unit is missing a spacer ring that would prevent the gear from falling off the rod but in any case, getting it back on was quite a hassle. I’m going to see if I can find a thick washer to fit into the gap so it doesn’t happen again. I expected more for a $230 hose reel. Edit: updating review to 5 stars based on the stellar customer support from Giraffe Tools. Seeing my review, they reached out determined to help remedy the issues I was facing. A replacement hose reel has resolved my issues.

Size: 100 ft Capacity with Hose
We now have (3) of these Giraffe hose reels with the Giraffe hose included. Two are in their second season and one still in its first. Excellent! They do exactly what they should, look great and show no signs of discoloration on the metal. The rubberized hoses are far superior to the vinyl hoses. They stay flexible in low temps. The hoses will kink but unkink easily enough. The stripe running the length of the hose helps spot twisting. We began with just one, then two, then three. Won't go back to vinyl hoses or cheap hose reels. Shouldn't need to. Worth the money? YES The two that are outside get the water drained from the hose and go through the winter just fine, down to 0° no problem. The third is mounted inside a heated garage and used to hose off snow/mud/slush in the winter.

Great hose reel.
Size: 100 ft Capacity with Hose
Great product! Quality and function are far superior to other hose reels that I have used previously. I made a sleeve out of 2 × 8 pressure treated wood and placed that over an existing 4x4 post. I mounted the hose reel to a 2x12 and then added another 2x8 underneath to further brace the reel. The reel was attached to the 2×12 with lag screws and washers.(not supplied) This setup is very solid and will withstand the weight and stress of pulling and winding. I also added additional concrete around the base of the built up post with sleeve. I will also be adding a shelf and small storage box to the post.

Not a good design
Size: 100 ft Capacity with Hose
These were very expensive. I purchased 3. It took about 2-3 weeks for them to break. Although the exterior is stainless steel, the working parts are plastic with a rubber pulley that constantly comes off its crank! I’ve given up. Unfortunately I’m past the return dates but I would never repurchase this product.

Could Use Improvement

Came with zinc coated steel mounting hardware. Not the best choice for use around stainless. Some of the literature showed a nozzle included, not the case. One of the screws that mounts the reel to the mounting plate was missing a nut and washer. Would have expected better quality control for the price point.

So my husband mounted it to the side of our house. And it's sturdy like no other water hose reel I have ever had. It is so smooth when you are reeling it In and pulling the hose out. The performance is amazing on this! It does not get tangled when reeling it. It's smooth like butter. It is a little pricey but you do get what you pay for with this product. It's worth the extra than buying one at your local stores
