  • After an Initial Bump or Two, The Gigabyte MO27Q28GR Has Converted Me to OLED for Gaming
Style: W-OLED Panel 280Hz Size: 27"
This is for the Gigabyte MO27Q28GR: Monitor Use: GAMING on PC, PS5 (down samples a 4K image to 1440P via HDMI 2.1 on consoles), Switch 2, and the Steam Deck via USB C. Everything works great! *I ORIGINALLY tried Gigabyte's 1440P MLA glossy W-OLED, but it was defective. Aside from defects, it was not bright or colorful enough for my liking. *What I compare the MO27Q28GR to(aside from the aformentioned MLA): -I own a an LG C1 4K W-OLED, an ultrawide QD-OLED by Alienware(gen 1), and a few 4K mini-LED monitors like the Innocn 27m2v and the 32" Neo G7 by Samsung. * In spite of being lower resolution than my other monitors and T.V., I actually prefer it's picture. It's glossy finish is beautiful (better than the Gigabyte MLA (I compared them side by side by shining a light into each while both off and on)). It reminds me of the LG C1 glossy finish, so it's clarity is top notch. I like that you can change the aspect ratio to a couple of smaller screen sizes while maintaining the native resolution and HDR. You do have to disable VRR for this. (24"/16:9 looks super sharp with the pixel density) * It doesn't have the same color vibrancy as the QD-OLED I have, but it's close (especially if I use the "color enhance"in the OSD) and certainly better than the MLA. The MO28QGR is also the brightest OLED I have used. The updated firmware(through USB-B and Gigabyte's Control Center software) that adds "Hypernits" is an improvement over the original firmware in HDR in my opinion. I use the "color enhance"(either set to 1 or 2, depending)feature in the HDR PEAK 1500 setting to add extra vibrance and punch to the color. I also made some adjustments in my GPU 's color settings to add punch (turned the color vibrancy slider from 50 to 55). ***MAKE SURE to reset the picture in the monitor's menu right after updating the firmware. It won't look right immediately after the update(washed out) , but resetting it fixed this completely and it only takes a second. *While not 4K like most of my displays, the glossy finish and excellent motion handling make it look dang close! I also set "super resolution" to 1 to bump up the sharpness without introducing artifacts(to my eyes ). * I never thought I'd switch from a 4K mini-LED to a 1440P OLED as my primary display, but the performance of the Tandem panel and the grain-free glossy finish make it hard for me to look at a matte display now. The colors on the matte screens just don't shine through like they do on this glossy finish. *The Infamous Banding/DSE: Yes, there is some; however I hardly notice it during gameplay and don't spend time looking at gray screens to look for it. I have run the "pixel cleaning" regularly in the OSD, and it has helped clear it up. *** Update *** : One thing that completely removed the "dirty screen effect" for me was switching from a DP cable to HDMI 2.1 with my PC. Something I started noticing when gaming on PC was that my eyes would begin to burn after a while. I had never experienced this before when gaming (and I have used brighter displays, so it's not due to brightness). Running "Pixel Clean" was not helping, so I tried using the night mode in Windows to reduce blue light as well as disabling "super resolution" in the monitor menu, but this didn't help either. If I looked VERY closely, I could see a slight fuzziness to the picture. I then noticed I didn't experience the burning when using my PS5(and did not see the fuzziness). I switched to HDMI 2.1(though I stuck to the native 1440P instead of down sampling from 4K) and my eyes stopped burning. I use a lower FPS with HDMI, but being a console player my entire life until a few years ago, I'm perfectly happy with 60-120 fps. * ALSO: Make sure the plug from the monitor to the power brick is plugged in all of the way. I've noticed that it comes loose easily just from moving the AC adapter. When this has happened, it also causes the "dirty screen effect". Plugging it in tightly cleared it up. * One note: I had to use a longer DP 1.4 cable than the one included with the monitor, so it's possible that the DSE is caused from a bad cable. The HDMI 2.1 cable I used is very high quality. * The MO27Q28GR is an excellent monitor for gaming and (after solving the DSE issue) I'm completely satisfied! ... show more

  • One Month of Use
Style: W-OLED Panel 280Hz Size: 27"
Replaced a 4k TV I had been using for a PC monitor with this. Dropping down to 1440p from 4k gave a big performance boost for gaming. Has my 12700k / Nvidia 3080 feeling new again. The colors and contrast are incredible. I had been holding off on getting an OLED because of the low brightness. This new tandem panel gets very bright. HDR games and movies look insane. My TV would always display SDR content as very faded/washed out when I had windows HDR enabled. I'm not sure why but I don't have that issue with this monitor and SDR content still looks great with HDR enabled in windows. Gaming is the smoothest and most responsive i've ever felt. Sometimes I get motion sickness from gaming, haven't had that happen yet with this monitor. The speakers are nice to have. Makes it very easy to hook up my Nintendo Switch 2. The monitor properly switches to HDR mode when playing switch 2 Native HDR games. Cons: My panel has 11 evenly spaced vertical lines that are visible at 95% greyscale. The lines are 1-2% off from the other greys. It's kind of like a magic eye puzzle where I don't notice them when using the screen but if I stare hard I can see them. Every review i've seen has them, it seems like it has to do with how the panel is made. They are much more visible if you take a photo with your phone than they are in real life. At 90% they are mostly gone. If I stare at an empty part of discord in dark mode I can see a few lines. As soon as you see text or something to break up the solid grey, they aren't visible. When i'm using discord I don't stare at solid grey empty sections so it's not really a problem for me. If you're favorite thing to do with your monitor is to stare at 95% greyscale images and be happy when you can't see anything, this monitor would be really bad for you. *update: I tried setting the refresh rate to 240hz after reading some comments. This gets rid of visible banding at 95% grayscale. One thing I haven't seen in any reviews that annoys me: slow start up time. I am used to monitors and tvs starting instantly. This monitor automatically shuts off it's image to protect itself which is fine. My GIGABYTE MO27Q28GR takes 18 seconds to show an image after pressing the power button. That means i'm waiting a few minutes every day for my monitor to turn on. I hate that way more than any 95% greyscale issues. This is not a perfect screen. I've also never had or read about a perfect screen in my lifetime. It is pretty sweet though and the nicest monitor i've owned. ... show more

  • Do it! Get an OLED monitor:)
Style: W-OLED Panel 280Hz Size: 27"
It is worth it to get OLED? YES! Beautiful pictures quality. Replaced my old Asus IPS monitor after it decided not to power on anymore. Saw this was reasonably priced and havebt regretted my purchase. It does have the greybanding issue that I heard OLEDs would have but its really not a big deal. Only time ive noticed was on a night raid in Tarkov and it was pitch black. But I tuned it out and it was fine. Havent noticed it besides that one instance and decided to do the test on my monitor after. HDR is amazing when watching movies. Everything is so vivid and the colors and darks really pop. Overall impressed and I'd recommend it if youre on the edge of deciding to try out an OLED monitor. Im sure you won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Slight subtle banding on gray screens only
Style: W-OLED Panel 280Hz Size: 27"
Everything about the monitor so far has been great, everything from image quality, refresh rate and colors. The only issue ive had if you even want to call it an issue is slight gray banding that you only notice in dark gray screens. i dont even have low latency mode on cus i dont notice a difference, the monitor is already very responsive. ... show more

  • Great Budget Oled Monitor
Style: W-OLED Panel 280Hz Size: 27"
A few years ago oled tech was super expensive. Over the years it's come down a lot and become more affordable. I was super pleased with this purchase as this was my first oled monitor. The facotry calibration is really good. There's ample amount of brightness and the picture quality is impressive which is to be expected given it's an oled monitor. However being a 4th Gen tandem oled panel it has the notorious grey banding issue. In my unit tho I didn't really notice it that much unless I ran specific tests to detect them. After a few pixel refreshes it got even better. Overall if your looking for a budget oled monitor then look and further cause this is a sweet deal. I got it for $500 and now it's $423 ar the time of writing this review. ... show more

  • It’s just okay
Style: W-OLED Panel 280Hz Size: 27"
Perfect 280hz monitor. Just in today’s day and age you can find 480hz+ monitors for a price not much higher than this monitor. The 280hz limitation put the same eye strain as my 165hz monitor it replaced, albeit being a tad better in smoothness of the image when playing video games.

Style: W-OLED Panel 280Hz Size: 27"
Satisified with my purchase, Huge upgrade coming from IPS great colors/perfect blacks. HDR supported games look amazing. Good brightness. Sleek and Minimal Design. Thankfully my Monitor has Minimal Gray Banding and is not noticeable during games or normal usage only if im really looking for it on gray applications/screens like discord etc. for 480 usd this is an absolute steal besides lottery panel issue ... show more

  • Don't buy unless you are only playing games and not doing anything else.
Style: W-OLED Panel 280Hz Size: 27"
The blacks are good but that is it. I was upgrading from an ips hp omen monitor and the picture quality was great. But for reading reddit and any text it was way worse and more noticeable compared to the ips. The gray banding issue was also really bad. I thought it wouldn't affect me in day to day but little did I know every app with dark mode uses a gray color like discord and youtube. I tried changing the background to be fully black but it just didnt look natural. For $500 I am not expecting to compromise on my daily experience. I'd wait till they figure out the text clarity issue and gray banding for commiting to another oled. ... show more
