Overall, this is a nice heat lamp that is well made and durable with the built in convenience of a toggle switch to control output. That being said, the bulb was broken upon arrival and I had to shop around locally until I found an adequate replacement. While packaging seemed decent enough to provide protection during transport, this must have been handled with extreme negligence to crack the bulb. All that aside, the replacement bulb I found works well and the lamp provides a good directional heat for a chicken coop. The is priced well, but just budget in the price of a new bulb because it may be needed. ... show more

    • Whole lotta heat output
I'm using this " off-label " . I needed a reliable heat lamp for a vacuum forming rig I built . This thing has no problem heating up thin plastic sheet stock to it's glass transition temperature . It pulls 224 watts on high power and 128 watts on low . Very orange red light . I will probably use this out in the coup during the day when the temperature drops . Heating plastic sheet for vacuum forming doesn't occur all that often so this lamp needs to earn it's keep . I use the pure infrared panels that emit no visible light at night so the chickens can chill . ... show more

Got this heater to use in my tortoise's house. I like the fact that is 250w, most heat emitters are 100-150w. It comes with the hanging hardware and will not hang down as low as a lamp and emitter do. The safety cage is a nice feature along with the two heat setting on the cord. Hoping I can cut down on the numbers of heat sources in his 80 cubic house. ... show more

When I opened the box for this heat lamp, I saw the broken bulb rolling around in two pieces. Not sure if it was shipped with the bulb in the lamp or if the bulb was just tossed into the box.
