Ghosthorn is a company I have never heard of, but once this very comprehensive fishing rod and reel combination was in my hands, I must admit I was impressed with what I saw, and how this combo felt in my hands!!! This "Silver Blade" model fishing rod is made with 30 Ton carbon fiber, which means the rod is both very strong yet also flexible and sensitive to feeling bites on your line. The handles are manufactured from EVA foam, which is a very comfortable and fatigue-fighting material, and maintains a firm grip even when wet!!! The ceramic guide rings are a feature usually reserved for more expensive rods....but they are on this rod to ensure smooth line casts and retrievals, while cooling down the heat caused by casting and retrieval friction. The fishing pole is telescopic and opens and closes smoothly without any hang-ups or undue friction. The rod's ability to be compacted makes it easy to carry to your fishing spot or store inside the nicely made and super-convenient zipper-closed gear bag, with handles, that is included with this rod and reel combination. The spinning reel provided with this kit is a smooth-running 6:1 ball bearing reel, with an interchangeable handle for left or right-hand convenience, and the handle has an exceptionally comfortable knob. The reel's internal stainless steel drive shaft and strong washers have zero backplay. NICE!!! The reel seat on the rod is made to be extremely sturdy and provides a platform to retain the reel in a secure and tight grip. The reel will definitely stay put, even with hard play on the reel and rod. The fishing rod combo, fishing line, and included mini "tackle lure box" conveniently fit together all in the included carrier bag! The only way to test a rod and reel is to take it fishing!!! I spooled the reel with 10-pound test braided line ( the kit has monofilament line, which is fine to use, but I'm spoiled and like the performance of non-stretching braided line), and securely attached the reel to the rod. The rod opens so smoothly, and with the reel in place, the combination of the two presents as a well-balanced piece of gear!!! NICE!!!! I attached a soft frog lure and started to cast and retrieve with the reel. The reel is a pleasure to work with! It runs without any resistance and feels great in my hand. Casting distances were extremely good due to the quality internal workings of the reel, especially the ball bearings that make everything as smooth as butter!! I was surface skimming with a newer frog lure I had purchased and was trying to attract a largemouth bass. Largemouth bass love frogs, so I had to cast into shallower water with some vegetation. The reel was great at slow retrieval or fast retrieval, and responded well to any input I placed upon the unit. The rod was amazingly sensitive and telegraphed the feel from the end of my line directly into my hands, grasping the EVA handles. It was mid-afternoon, which is really never a good time to fish in general, but bass go to deeper water as the surface layers slowly heat up. I did feel a few nibbles, but unfortunately, I wasn't hooking up on my rig. I was about to pack up and gave the line one more cast into slightly shaded water, which should have been a bit cooler. I was slowly walking my frog, with intermittent stops to simulate that my lure was an injured croaker. I felt some nibbles in the grassy area under the shade, so I just paused and let the frog appear that it was "worn out". The water surface was broken by a largemouth bass that swallowed my lure and was running. I tightened up the drag a bit on the reel and started to retrieve my catch. This bass was fighting pretty well, yet the rod was performing perfectly. It had the flex I needed and also a strong backbone to retain its rigidity. The rod is, in my opinion, a medium build with fast action. Once I got my bass onto the shore, I quickly weighed it in at 5 pounds and 4 ounces!! Nice size bass!!! I performed minor surgery on the shore to remove my lure and sent the bass back to the lake to grow larger for a few more years!! The rod and reel performed fantastically, and reeling in a five-pound-plus bass that was fighting was a great workout for the combo. Both the rod and the reel were more than sufficient to hook up and reel in a good-sized fish without any difficulty or hiccups!! For an extremely reasonably priced combination rod and reel, I was very impressed with the performance they provided!! I rate this rod and reel combination kit from Ghosthorn a solid 10 out of 10 because this rod and reel combination kit has everything you need to start fishing, the kit can be used by a newbie or a seasoned angler, the rod and reel make a terrific combination, the rod and reel are very well balanced, the reel performs as smoothly as butter, the rod has just the right amount of flex while still maintaining strength, and this kit is very affordable!!! I recommend this kit to anyone who would like an inexpensive fishing kit that performs more like a kit that would cost more money!!! This fishing kit is a bargain that provides great functionality and fun!!!! Happy, happy fishing adventures to all the anglers on Amazon!!!!

This is a nice gift for a newbie fisherman/woman. Comes in a nifty zip up carrying case with room for additional gear, and a foam insert with cutouts to store the pole and the reel etc. The telescopic rod is nice, although that particular design doesn't allow the rod to bend as much as a traditional longer pole, so more functional for catching smaller fish. Suitable for fresh or saltwater, comes with some line and some basic lures and tackle that need to be installed on the reel and rod. Looks pretty cool, with a modern Chrome look to it, very eye-catching and certain to generate some conversation with your fellow anglers. The spinning reel does function smoothly, and this isn't just some conversation piece, you can actually catch some fish with it. I like it because when we go out on the boat I'm not sure that I'm actually going to want to fish, but I had this in the boat bag so when we're on the water and I feel like throwing the line in to see what I might bring up, I just pull it out, assemble it, and toss it in the water. Takes about 10 minutes for me although I would think a more experienced angler would do it and half that time. Serious fishing enthusiasts probably won't think much of this, but for newbies or people who just occasionally like to go out and try to catch dinner, this is a good thing to have in your boat or beach bag

The rod itself is pretty nice. It extends easily and did a good job of staying all the way extended the whole time I went fishing with it. The carbon fiber of the rod gave a much more even bend than I expected giving how many segments this actually has. I had to exert decent pressure to get some of the segments to collapse back for storage, but I guess that's better than it collapsing when it get shaken by a fish! The listing says that it comes with braided line, but it comes with 100 meters of 14# mono, which is fine. The reel is a 3000-type capacity, probably more than I'd expect people would need if they're using a portable rob. It comes with a few jigs, plastic worms, crankbaits, and swivel clips. These are all very basic quality. The carrying case is a bit of a mixed bag, though. One one hand it is solidly built and protective enough to toss around in a trunk or boat. It has several compartments inside that are big enough to hold tackle trays other other supplies, so this could be used as a minimalist tackle box. However, the foam cut-out to store the rod is that suuuuper soft foam, which barely gives any support. (I may replace it with my own foam and manually make cuts for the rod/reel/handle.) And the use of the space is weird. I'm not sure why they wouldn't make the cut-outs for the reel to be attached to the rod, as it would be more convenient and leave more space. Overall, though, for the price this is a great travel set. This won't replace any of my main rods, but I'll definitely be keeping this in my trunk for the occasional fishing emergency!

Look, Ghosthorn gear can be hit or miss—this one’s a definite miss. I grabbed it to keep in the car for road trips, but two of the eyes weren’t even glued on, the line snaps like it’s allergic to tension, and it’s got more memory than a 1990s phone cord. The jigs and crankbaits are fine, and the reel works... sort of—just not very smoothly. Swapped it onto another rod to test, and it’s barely passable. Giving it 2 stars only because a few parts are salvageable, but overall this setup needs more than a tune-up—it needs an exorcism.

At the current price of $72.99 I was expecting a better quality set. The foam insert is just there for looks as it does not provide any real support or keep the items in place. The line provided has product details in another language (not English) so I can't read the specifications. The tools are cheap, but functional. The carbon fiber pole and reel is acceptable for a beginner. It is lightweight and easy to assemble. I would not purchase it again unless it was on sale.
