I have been using the unit for two weeks. I previously had a $35 unit which worked well enough for me, but the finish on the wand stripped off, and the carafe cracked. I did not like this (Gevi) off the bat because I could not get my coffee hot enough. The foam formed too quickly overflowing the frothing cup before It gets hot enough. It turns out it was my frothing technique that was lacking. A couple of YouTubes later, I no longer need to pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds to heat it to desired temp. My $35 unit it also easier to clean. The coffee takes a while to dry so that coffee will come off as one big block, and even then there is still a need to scrape off coffee on the sides. It is just more cleaning to maintain the unit. I'll keep it though. It looks to be a much better quality unit. --- update 1 month later ---- I am only using a wet Skoy dishcloth to clean the brother and the stainless steel finish started to come off. This also happened on my older $35 espresso machine, but it lasted a few months. I am very disappointed because I thought this was a better quality unit. I will be returning this. ... show more

I should have looked at the Porta filter before I cleaned out the machine. I was so excited to use it and then I realized when I pulled out the Porta filter to change out the heads to clean out the other one, the inside is actually plastic and it smelled like warm plastic. When I took the water container out, I did not expect that to also smell like warm plastic but it did, probably because it does touch a warm machine, just enough. Anytime hot water touches plastic it releases toxins so this will be a no go for me. Machine is beautiful and it was very easy to operate. I wanted to try making the espresso and steam in the milk, but that would mean another clean when I knew I was already returning it because of the plastic issue. Really, would it be that hard to make the entire porta filter all-metal? I got this on sale too so I was extremely excited. I don’t know why I didn’t see this plastic situation before I bought it because it looks like other people have Mentioned it. I was espresso machine shop in trying to fall asleep so that way I could’ve been the reason I missed it. Bummed and returning :( As I was packing it up to return, I noticed the “silver/stainless steel” coating flaking off where you put the portafilter in. So even if the portafilter was made of safe materials, you you still get flakes of that stuff in your cup. Trying to upload a pic. ... show more

    • Stopped working after 6 months
I was pleased with this purchase for about 6 months at which time it started to malfunction. The heat indicator lights never stop blinking and it brews very weak coffee. I reached out to Geri customer service. They confirmed the machine is still under it’s 1 year warranty but asked me to send model number, order number, a photo of the model sticker, a video of the machine not working … after jumping through all their hoops I was told they couldn’t be sure it was malfunctioning. I definitely do not recommend this machine or any Gevi product based on their poor customer service and unwillingness to stand by their products even when still under warranty. ... show more

The shipper was great and machine was received right away. This espresso maker started off making good cups with lots of creme. Its been a little difficult to get the espresso to come out on the first try which does effect the taste some. I ordered more double shit cups from the manufacturers website and those took about a month to arrive. I only have two complaints. 1) The espresso doesn't always come out right away. I sometimes have to stop and restart to get the liquid to flow. 2) the froth nozzle is a bit of a task to clean. I never feel like its 100% clean. ... show more

    • You get what you pay for
I have been looking to buy an espresso machine for years. Finally settled on this one. Here are the pros & cons from my perspective. Pros: - Ease of use: Perhaps one of the best reasons to buy this machine. - Real estate: I have a smaller kitchen and space is premium. This machine is compact and its design for space utilization is very effective. - Quality of espresso: Disclaimer: I’m not a connoisseur nor do I have professional barista skills. I just enjoy a good espresso so take it for what it’s worth. Having said that, for a machine that lacks all the bells and whistles of more expensive machines, it does pull above-average espresso shots. Crema body and heart were differentiable, satisfying and tasty every single time - Espresso settings: The 1-cup, 2-cup and manual pull options are hard to find in most other machines in this range of price and even on some more expensive machines. This feature is definitely a home run. - It’s inexpensive. For the price, a very good value barring issues that I faced (see Notes below) Cons: - The steamer is meh and I stopped using it after the first few uses. Not at all close to the quality that you’d expect at a coffee house. - I would’ve preferred a pressure gauge. I admit this is not a con really considering that the features are as advertised. Other Notes: - Unfortunately I had to return this twice for replacements. - Reason for first return: After a couple of weeks of use, the 2-cup espresso didn’t want to stop at the right dose and would overflow the espresso shot glass that I had been using. Tried cleaning it, shutting on and off etc, nothing seemed to work - Reason for second return: The bottom plate/tray used for overflow and for placing an espresso cut — started rattling when dispensing espresso. The rattling worsened to the point where the espresso glass started shifting/moving across the plate missing the espresso flow completely. Both of these issues were deal breakers for me and I think would be for anyone expecting smooth operations out of a product. - Bottomline: Value is what you pay for the money.
