Top Amazon Reviews

  • Clean compact design, excellent instructions
Style: E2901
I bought the basic model Geryon Vacuum Sealer back in February 2020. I was so impressed with the product and its value that I wrote a very positive review at the time. Since then I have sealed about 50 bags without any problems that were not my own doing (like overstuffing bags). Geryon recently invited me to test and review this new improved model and keep the unit free of charge. I have a hunting/fishing camp and wanted a second sealer to leave up there to package venison and trout so I agreed. First, the User Manual and Troubleshooting Guide are improved and very clearly written and illustrated and they deserve an A+ for that as compared to most manuals that accompany products from China. This is important because probably every operating issue you might encounter is covered in the Manual or Guide so just read them first. There are a few simple rules for using any vacuum sealer that you may not figure out on your own. And it annoys me – and must drive the manufacturer nuts – when I read negative reviews from people who obviously did not bother to read the instructions. These devices are simple to use, but if you lack common sense and/or can't read, you will encounter problems with certain foods your try to seal such as those with high liquid content like fish, or easily squished items like berries, or infinitely compressible items like bread cubes from old bread you want to freeze for future stuffing. In the case of bread, the machine will keep running trying to get all the air out which is impossible for any basic food sealer vacuum pump. Use the Gentle mode or hit Stop and then Seal once you realize it is not pulling out any more air. You can see that thousands of Amazon buyers have given the Geryon sealers 4 or 5 stars and they are Amazon's #1 best seller, so the question here is, are the extra features on the new Geryon worth an extra 25 dollars over the base model or an extra 5-10 dollars over their intermediate model? Although the base model works just fine, the two suction modes (Gentle, Normal), the Moist and Dry modes, plus easy-cleaning feature, make the intermediate or the new model with the bag cutter bar, definitely worth the extra money. The cutter bar is handy (no searching for scissors) and gives you fast, clean square cuts that insures consistent easy sealing as compared to crooked or ragged cuts you might make with some other cutter. So just buy the unit - you will be happy. Finally some advice: buy the type of bags they recommend and don't be cheap by making bags too small. The instructions say "allow 4" of space between the bag contents and top of bag." Follow that rule and you will have success every time with plenty of room to label and date the contents. ... show more

  • Wish I would have bought one of these a long time ago!
Style: E2901
This unit is easy to use and works great. First couple of times I had to make sure both sides "clicked" but after I got the hang of it, this thing draws a strong vacuum and seals perfectly. If used this primarily to cook sous vide and I have not had a leak yet!

  • Needs a power switch
Style: E2901
Does a good job of suction and sealing, but it's too easy to start a mode. Operating noise is not loud; quieter than a coffee grinder. Easy to use and effective. Here's the deal: Plug it in, and it's on. Always. No power control, other than unplugging it from the wall outlet. Because the controls are extremely sensitive to touch, it's simply too easy to start the vacuum or the heat sealing strip while opening or closing it during normal use. This makes it all too easy to burn your fingers or be startled by the vacuum pump suddenly starting up. I also do not like that there is no vacuum-only function when using bags; this is reserved for only when using the included hose fitting with canisters and other reusable containers. Overall, this unit does a very good job of extracting air and making a good seal. But the lack of a separate power switch can make it awkward to use without unplugging it, and lack of vacuum-only mode for bags limits functionality of this device. It works very well at what it's capable of, but unfortunately, it isn't capable of anything more than sucking air and sealing in a single mode, or just a seal-only mode. I'll likely be looking for another unit with better control options well before this one needs to be replaced. ... show more

  • Re-position bag if it does not immediately start drawing vacuum. Much easier with two people.
Style: E2901
The unit is very light and will slide on your counter quite easily, especially when you are closing the top. This causes the bag being sealed to slide out of position, therefore not vacuuming properly. We found it easier and quicker to use two people. This also made it easier to position and hold the bag in place for vacuuming. We started with about 100.00 lbs. of both frozen and fresh meat. Frozen meat currently in butcher paper and baggies that have come apart or opened in the freezer. . Butcher paper has leaked on occasion. We started with a roll of 11" x 50' bag material and sealed the fresh meat first. Make sure you clean the inside lip of bags when sealing anything wet or damp as any residue or slime from meat will prevent proper sealing (A paper towel under meat helps!). Using the wet and normal settings, the suction works very well but be prepared for some liquid to seep out during vacuuming. Also, make sure you leave at least 2.5 inches on the side you are vacuuming, especially with wet food. Better too much bag than not enough. We sealed fresh racks of ribs (about 24"x 10") on the gentle, wet setting and normal wet setting with just enough slack in the bag to allow for freezing expansion. At this size, the vacuuming was not instantaneous but plenty quick. We sealed our steaks and chicken on normal and wet (we actually also tried on dry setting and vacuums a little faster and tighter) and the results were very good. We also let it rest a couple of times just to be safe as we were working rather quickly. Since we had multiple items of each type, we cut one bag to test from the roll for each type of item and when we were satisfied with the fit, we cut the rest and sealed one side. We found this sped up the process tremendously. We chose the 11" wide bags because the ribs would fit perfectly widthwise and we could cut it lengthwise to suit. Also, we can make custom bags of any size with this width by simply resealing one of the pre-sealed sides and the sealing the length as necessary. We next worked on the pre-frozen items,(fryers, Salmon, Cod, giant shrimp, some pork chops that were in pairs stacked and even a couple of plastic ice packs that were leaking! We used the dry, normal settings, again making sure we left plenty of room to seal properly. All the sealing was very acceptable and we did roughly 100lbs. in about 2 hours with the unit fresh out of the box. We actually used the product to seal some 1lb. homemade sandbags! We suggest that you try different setting combinations to see what works best for your particular application. All in all, we are very happy with the sealer. I guess we will find out in a few months how well it holds up. If you have problems, just try some common sense and you will be satisfied with the results. It is more than adequate for home use. ... show more
