I originally bought this item in July 2018, and after more than six years of regular [daily/weekly] use, I'm finally replacing it - with a new version of the same device. It's been excellent in its role as a space saving countertop multipurpose grill and sandwich maker. I didn't use the waffle plates as much, but when I did, they worked fine. The key is what you expect from it. This item works best as a way to prepare single person meals. I've used it to make toast, fry eggs, make "pancakes" as well as waffles, as a panini press, to heat up veggie patties ... it's quite versatile. It heats quickly and cooks fairly well. The plates are not difficult to switch out and are easily cleaned. I use an oil spritzer for even oiling and have had few problems with food sticking over the years. My only real problem was with the plates getting scratched, and when I wrote to Ovente they were able to provide me with replacements. When I noticed some uneven heating today - something that has never been a problem before - I found what appears to be a cracked lower element. After 6+ years of nearly daily use, I can accept this as a reasonable end of life cycle, and will replace with a new one. In terms of value for money, I think I've done okay with this product. ... show more

    • Won’t heat up enough on bottom plate

The top hot plate does not heat up enough to make waffles or grill cheese without having to flip them over in the waffle maker. After flipping to cook the top side the bottom will be over cooked. It takes around 15 plus minutes to make one waffle or grill cheese. We do like that it is a compact unit and with three different cooking plates. If it would be faster at cooking we would be happy. To make waffles for breakfast for the family it would take hours. Very disappointed. ... show more

    • About that "Doesn't get hot enough to brown..."

I think I might have found the issue that all of these reviewers are having, where their sandwich doesn't brown properly. You have to make sure that the oil/butter/etc. that you coat the plates with is hot BEFORE you put your sandwich on!! Cool oil will always just soak into whatever you're cooking it with and get all soggy; it's not a flaw of the product, it's cooking technique. This applies to coating the sandwich with butter/etc.; coat the plates, let them sit a little, THEN put the sandwich/whatever it is you'd like on. That being said! —Grill is VERY good for paninis, as shown above!! —I haven't tried the waffle iron yet, but can't imagine I'll have any issues given how well the grill works —A couple of negatives: closure is a little flimsy so don't overstuff it TOO much; it's also a pain to clean if you get stuff down in the crevices. Also, you do have to watch it (it won't shut off when finished), so be sure to set a timer. HOWEVER, I didn't knock off any stars for these because the first two aren't an issue when handling it properly, and the third doesn't bother me because at this price point, for it to do the rest of everything super well is all I could ask. Just make sure to treat it well and you won't have problems. :) ... show more
