I had a Genie overhead door opener on a seven foot door of my garage and had to remove it due to remodeling. I have a free standing shop with eight foot doors and thought I could use the old one out there. All I needed was THIS extension to make it all work. All the parts came along with instructions on how to switch the seven foot opener and make it an eight foot opener. Piece of cake, nothing else had to be modified other than adding this extension.     • Sometimes you need a couple more inches
The product works. It is great... but I question why you even need it. If you read reviews... you will see MANY people order a garage door opener and can't install it because they need an extension. This clearly is a Marketing effort to lower the initial cost of the opener. However, almost all garages (unless you live in a much older home) will need it. This situation causes a lot of frustration and anger. From a waste standpoint... I am not sure what is worse. To have an extra metal piece that is unused or to buy the extension and then have the chain/belt from opener that is unused. To top it off... even with using the extension that I have to pay 1/4 of the price of the opener for ... it still came up several inches shorter than the Chamberlain it replaced. It took a lot more work than expected to put this all together. The extensions works if you need it (measure the opener of your garage to see if you need it).. it just isn't the efficient progress I would hope the Garage Door opener world should be striving for. I think it is time for the younger generation to build a better/different mousetrap and get bought by Genie/Chamberlain (since they are not going to innovate) or to take over the Garage Door opener market. ... show more
