I just finished installing the opener and everything went pretty well. The instructions were pretty easy to follow. My only complaint was about the wire included vs. the description in the instructions. The two-part wire looked the same, but the instructions called out one of them marked with a black stripe which was incorrect. I used a multimeter to distinguish between the wires. Really easy to install and would recommend on how quiet and well it works alone. I ordered this garage door opener because I wanted to use a "dumb" garage door opener to be able to control via wifi without having to use any company's "smart" apps or other bs that barely works. This is the dumb garage door opener that just works. it does come with button remotes but I don't use them since I control it via Home Assistant. Likes: Installation was a breeze <2hours ( this was a swapout.) Includes removal of old unit. Quiet…makes old Genie chain drive sound like a car crusher. Old remotes can be reprogrammed…old remotes were 20 years old. Nice radius of remote, door is up before i get there, no waiting. Programming of drive is a snap. Was looking for a simple opener without a lot of extras, needed to work with homelink and be quiet. This was perfect. Added the extension because every door pretty much needs one. Old garage door opener failed suddenly. Called a garage door company: they actually wanted $900 to replace it!! Found the Genie on Amazon; got here in two days. Installed it in about 2 hours. Works great!

    • They do not support there product if it brakes
I bought a genie model 2055 belt drive garage opener. It was easy to install and quit. 5 months after I installed it the limits on the door stopped working. Getting a hold of of genie has been a night mare and then getting support from them has even been worse. The first person I talked with had no clue why my opener was stopping at different locations each time and after about a hour they said they would have to consult with they team and she would call me back. After several hours with no call back I called them again. The next person I talked with had me start unplugging stuff off the mother board and trouble shooting the door. I'm 62 yrs. old and doing this is not easy. He decided it was not holding limit problem and emailed me a form to fill out to send me the part to fix myself. After I got through that they sent me another email telling me I had to pay for shipping and needed to contact them by phone to pay. That has taken 2 days of excuses and still have not got this part done and no parts coming yet. When I bought the door opener I expected it to work for more then 5 months without failing and beings it did fail I would expect them to repair it, not me. ... show more

    • MAKE SURE THE CENTER OF THE BELT TURNBUCKLE ENGAGES WITH THE DOOR TRAVELER.
CONS: Lack of an important sentence in the instructions caused an hour of research and complaint. I could not get the traveler to engage with the drive belt and thought parts for the traveler were left out of the parts bags. It turns out that the TURNBUCKLE engages with the traveler only after the TURNBUCKLE is centered in the traveler. The only time this important concept is mentioned is the last sentence during belt assembly and tensioning. "Move the turnbuckle until it is inside the traveler" does not tell me that it must be centered to ENGAGE with the TRAVELER. The supplied wiring is very cheap in that the insulation is not flexible and the "stripes" on the wire are very hard to see when selecting which wire is attached to the photocells and the power head. PROS: The unit operates very quietly. I am able to attach the remote control to the wall in place of the wired console in order to avoid wire and staples across the ceiling. The power head is lightweight. I was able to support and attach it to the ceiling myself. ... show more
