  • I can see why there are so many negatives reviews for all of these cheap heat guns / all brands. Tips on how to.
Style: Corded Heat Gun
This review applies to all cheap brands; pay attention to the description pictures, many guns looks the same with different colors. If they look the same, that tells you that it is the same mold and the same manufacturer in China making it with different brands. So paying more money for something that looks the same it is not a guarantee that it is a better unit. I examined the tool and here are the reasons why they fail. Use some common sense while using the heat gun and understand the difference between using it in cold weather or during the summer. I f you are stripping paint in cold weather, then using the high-temperature settings, should not be a problem. Using the gun with an outdoor temperature of 85-90 F makes a big difference on its performance. The highest heating setting should be only used for short periods of time, at this setting the resistors get red hot, which means that not enough air is going over them. A constant use on high will end in the resistors failing. Suggestion if you need to use it in high, do your best to switch between high and low so it may reduce the temperature of the internal components. If you are working with the high temp setting, do not suddenly turn off the heat gun, move the switch to the low temp setting, so it will reduce the temperature of the internal components, unfortunately this gun does not have a cool air mode only, that would it allow it to cool completely before one could turn it off. Do not turn it off from high, and leave it with the nozzle facing down, (hot air rises). The residual heat will be escaping from the back and will start to take a toll on the little fan blade and motor. Pay attention, when you turn off the gun, leave it resting with the nozzle up, that way the heat will dissipate without affecting the plastic casing. Do not get the tip of the nozzle at one inch from the surface, you are reducing the airflow of the gun and it will overheat. Try to keep a distance of about 2 inches from the surface. Work with the gun in an angle from the surface, it will reduce the air static pressure and improve the air flow. This is not a professional tool; this is a weekend warrior tool. A professional tool for continuous hours of operation is over $100. Before the first use, shake it slightly, if it rattles and it sounds like a loose part on the inside, put in the box and return it. A loose screw, or a small piece of plastic, will break the blades of the fan, and the gun will fail. Do not drop it, it will not take it. After you finish your work, unplug it, let it cool in a place where there are no materials that can ignite, such plastic or paper bags. So far it works, I am just being careful with it, to see if it may last. 4 stars because it does not have a cool off setting, and not enough air for the high temp setting. ... show more

  • Really good heating gun
Style: Corded Heat Gun
*UPDATE* owned this heat gun since July 2017, it’s now June 2019 and it works perfectly, using it for many art projects* This following is my original review.* I've been wanting one of these for small projects and this worked perfectly. My wife found a used baby cart that was pretty scratched up and this gun did a perfect job of restoring it (Pictures attached). Next I'm going to use it on the scratch marks on the plastic door panels in my car. A little heat and the dings just melt away. Mine shipped very quickly and I am extremely happy with my new heat gun. ... show more

  • Better than expected!!!
Style: Corded Heat Gun
I purchased this product for fixing imperfections in my candles as I hand make soy candles. The heat gun did better than I expected and gets extremely hot... I’d say it got up to easily 200 degrees and I only used it on low setting! I definitely do not recommend for children use as my kids like to help me but it was too hot for them to handle. The plastic handle part gets warm but not unbearable, however, the metal part is extremely hot to the touch and I only used it approx. up to one minute at a time. I laid it on its side but don’t recommend it because it started to smoke, I believe because the ventilation on the one side was covered so I just held it until I was finished. Once I was done, I unplugged it and let it cool off a bit and then laid it on its side to finish cooling. Overall, I’m more than satisfied especially for the price! I just got it today so I hope it holds up and the quality is as good as I think it is!!! ... show more

  • This + WD-40 + plastic knife = bumper sticker removal.
Style: Corded Heat Gun
I read a review here before buying it that it helped them remove old bumper stickers. Well, it does! (with some chemical help and a plastic knife) My stickers were nearly 10 years old and this gun made it so easy to get them off. I plan to use it for other projects and crafts, but it gave my car new life. It even works on glass! If you're in my situation, don't hesitate and get it! ... show more

  • Better Than Expected--But One Caution!
Style: Corded Heat Gun
I had to solder some cables to 120V cooling fans. These connections must be insulated for safety, but I just can't stand gooey electrical tape. I had heat-shrink insulating tubing, but my old heat gun died. Using matches or a lighter makes for a poor application. Since I don't do much of this work anymore, I wanted a cheap replacement, and I wanted a few nozzle attachments to control the heat better. This gun is inexpensive but not cheap. It looks and feels like a tool several times the price. It produces enormous heat at its 1500W High setting; Genesis claims you can sweat-solder plumbing pipes with it. Be careful! I'll probably use the 750W Low setting for everything. The nozzle attachments are a heavier gauge than expected and fit securely. Definitely not cheap-feeling. I like the design feature that lets it lie securely on its back on a workbench, aiming up so you can manipulate the work with two hands if needed. Cons: The seam at the front of the handle is a little uncomfortable. I'll probably file it smooth. No big deal. Caution: I saw quite a lot of white smoke coming out of the gun after couple of minutes of use; it smelled like hot production residues (oil, insulation, paint, etc.) coming off. It billowed out the shell of the gun like some movie prop, but diminished quickly and was completely gone after about 5 minutes of running. It is perfectly normal, though this gun's enormous heat output gave it the Oscar for best short duration fume production by a non-smoke grenade I've ever seen. I bet many buyers return these guns after seeing the smoke. It would have been wise for Genesis to "burn it in" at the factory. Had I no experience with the smell of real fires and burned electrical parts, I might have dropped it and breathlessly called 911 from the driveway. I suggest you "burn it in" outdoors or near a window so you don't smell up the house. As Douglas Adams would say: Don't panic! ... show more
