I have bought (and lost) several of these over many years. I keep coming back because they are consistently well made, accurate, easy to read. The scales go to square ends so you can butt them against something to measure. The alignment of the end of the ruler vs. the scale is correct so you can flip it end for end to get the scale you need on the edge you need and it agrees. The markings are etched and easy to read. They flex without taking a set, the edges are square and smooth but not sharp. It is 1/2 mm thick (0.02"). The only downside is that local big-box stores don't seem to carry them any more, but Amazon does! I use it continually, for all kinds of things. ... show more

quality: very easy to read and appear well made. i am used to starrett at work but wanted something cheaper at my desk and for simple stuff. the bend(and spring back), feel, and thickness, all high quality. i put a caliper to these and found the 6" length to be 6.001". i then checked at several marks on the 10ths and 100ths side and found them to appear to be exact. i would say this gives starrett a run for it's money and at a fraction of the cost. ... show more

I needed this ruler for model measuring and making. I use it to check items to see if they re scale and properly dimensioned. I also use it to check tolerances. This marking are very easy to read even the 1/100ths". It has four scales. One side is fractional inches of 32nds and 64ths which you can use as a traditional imperial ruler easily because every 1/8th of an inch has a longer graduation mark. The other side is in 1/10th" and 1/100th". Both sides are imperial so this is suitable for engineering and machinist work. It is high quality metal with a non glare satin finish. When tilted on its horizontal axis the numbers appear to fade leaving a ghost image that is still readable, almost like a holographic effect. This is probably my nicest ruler. I have no complaints about this ruler and have not seen a better one compared to more expensive rulers in the $10-$20 range. I just wish I had a triangular engineering ruler that measured in 1/100th" of an inch. ... show more

I'm a welding instructor so this is a good addition to the ol front pocket. Everything seems accurate. 10 thou and 100 thou on one side 64ths and 32nds on the other. Good buy.

    • Good but not the same

I've used these types of rules for years and always liked General. Overall the rule seems precise enough. The tick marks are nice and finely etched. They are much finer than my older General rule which helps separate the lines better. The thing that I don't like is that General is using a less springy steel now. The new rule bends easily and stays bent. This isn't an issue if you never bend the rule. But there are quite a few times when I use a 12 inch rule with one end bent to fit around irregular shaped objects. My old General rule can nearly create a complete circle and return to flat. Not so with this new one. Too bad since its flexibility is why I bought another one. It's still a nice product but I wish the steel were better. ... show more

My dad had given me a full size ruler of this same brand a few years ago. It's the best ruler i have ever used. I love that it has both quarter (1/32, 1/8, etc) measurements as well as decimal measurements. I wanted a new ruler to use at my ceramics class because i didn't want my dad's ruler to get too dirty or get lost or stolen. A 6" might be perfect to store and get basic measurements, i thought. I needed something short that I could use for turning hems on a craft project - this is perfect for my needs. I lay it on the fabric, and fold the fabric over the ruler, then fold again. The ruler pulls out smoothly, no snagging, and I have a perfectly folded trim with the raw edge inside, with no size variation between pieces. Listed as "both a standard ruler and a metric ruler in one". This is not true. There is not metric system on this. Just imperial. Still, it is well-made, so I did not remove any stars. • It's 1/32 in thin, and just a hair below half an inch wide, perfect for small packs and kits. • One side has 10ths and 100ths inch intervals (the description says 10 and 100 mm intervals which is not correct. No metric on these). • The other side has 1/32 and 1/64 inch intervals. • Markings are etched on the ruler, not just printed. • All edges have been ground down, (not just stamp cut), and are at a 90 degree angle. You can scrape quite effectively with this. • No unmarked spaces at beginning and end of ruler. Markings start and end at the very edges. If you want a small steel ruler with imperial system, then this is great, and it should last pretty long. If you want metric, keep looking. Hopefully the description will be corrected. ... show more
