Recommend for heavy daily use. As an automotive technician I use this daily on several vehicles.

  • Wow! Excellent Car Scan Tool Wow! Excellent Car Scan Tool
Style: 10 in Tablet
I am a pretty handy guy when it comes to working on cars. My attitude has always been if a high school educated dealership mechanic can fix my car, I can do it too. I was forced to fix my own car as a young person since I could not afford to take it to a mechanic fix it for me. And now days especially with all the repair manuals and YouTube videos out there it is not too hard to do. However, I have always been limited by not having access to the computer diagnostics. Sure, a simple OBDII scanner would give me codes, but that is nothing like having a bi-directional diagnostic scanner. This scanner has true bi-directional abilities. It scans for just about everything I would ever need to check on my cars. It has a remote OBD connection. So I can plug the transmitter/receiver into the OBD port and and then have the scanner information wirelessly sent to the 10 inch tablet. No cords and wires running everywhere. It also included a charging stand for the tablet. Everything came well packed and protected. The equipment comes in a heavy duty plastic storage box. The box has two heavy duty locking clasps. The lower section holds the tablet and OBD transmitter in molded foam for protection. All of the charging cables are stored under the tablet. The top section of the box has all the vehicle specific adapters. There are 17 vehicle adapters included. The OBD cable is also stored in the center of the top section. The tablets charging dock came safely packed in a separate box. I plugged in the metal support legs to the bottom of the charging dock. I used the included USB-C and plugged it into the rear port on the charging dock. I put the tablet into the dock and the light on the bottom of the charging dock began to glow red, indicating it is charging. A few seconds later the tablet screen turned on and showed the percentage of charge the battery was currently at. A little while later the tablet battery was showing 100% full. The tablet itself is a pretty big at 10 inches. It has beefy protection moldings around the entire tablet. On the top is a power button and a USB-C connection port. On the bottom are 5 recessed connection pins for when the tablet is put into the charging dock. The pins sit below the edge of the tablet so there is pretty much no way to touch or damage the pins. On the back of the tablet, near the top is a camera. Lastly there is a foldout stand so you can prop the tablet into a comfortable viewing angle. The tablet has a very high build quality and looks like it will be able to take quite a bit of abuse around the shop. The display screen is very easy to read and has a really good display. The OBD transmitter/receiver module connects to the required cords and vehicle specific adapters. It too is of very good build quality. All you do is put the OBD cord into the transmitter/receiver module and plug that into the OBD port on the car. The module has status lights that light up on the front panel. It was very easy to set up and it functions well. I found there was virtually no lag with the information transfer. I ran several tests on both of my cars. All the information was easy to read and understand. Although I have been working on my cars for 30 years, this is my first time using a sophisticated scanner tool. So I will need a little time to learn all its systems and tests. But, from what I have tried so far, I am completely blown away by this system. The initial price is steep. However, when you factor in how much a dealership will charge you for scanning you vehicle, if you get two or three uses out of this it has already paid for itself. Then, any time you use it past that, you are literally saving hundreds of dollars with each use. Just like my tools, I consider this an investment. Use the tools you have and do repairs yourself and in the long run you wind up saving thousands. Bottom line, I am very happy with this system and I am sure I will get many, many years of use out of it. ... show more

  • GEARWRENCH 10" Pro Command Wireless Bi-Directional Diagnostic Tablet GEARWRENCH 10" Pro Command Wireless Bi-Directional Diagnostic Tablet
Style: 10 in Tablet
Gearwrench has become a brand I can trust. Offering high quality tools and equipment at a good price. Gearwrench has been making a push into the Prosumer/Professional market. The Gearwrench 10" Pro Command Wireless Bi-Directional Diagnostic Tablet (GWSMART10) is targeted for this audience. By every measure this is a professional grade tool. A fully capable diagnostic scanner, it offers an impressive database of supported vehicles, advanced features such as ADAS programming, TPS functions, ABS , ECM coding, Key programming, Reports and History only just to name a few. The GWSMART10 can also be paired with the GEARWRENCH High-Definition Flexible Inspection Borescope (GWSCOPE) (Sold Separately) to act as the high definition viewing monitor. With the rugged design of the GWSmart10, this is the perfect match. Some features I really like. It is wireless making it very convenient to carry with you to different vehicle locations. The interface and communication is fast. Older vehicles will show some slowness, but that is limited to the car’s data throughput and not the scanner, a huge range of manufacturing data modules it can directly access, and the graphing function where you can show real time relationships between different modules or systems. The GWSmart 10 comes with three years of service updates which will keep your scanner up to date with the latest manufacturing releases. Only $150 a year to get those updates after the three years. Here is some of my experience using scan tools. When a tool has to support so many different makes and models occasionally you may try a function that comes up short in its ability. If the manufacturer updates the tool these issues will most likely be addressed over time. What can’t be addressed are the functions that it isn’t designed to do. What it can and cannot do: The GWSMART10 is fully capable of coding or bi-directional module interaction. It is not capable of ECM programming. If you need to reprogram a new, blank ECM or update a vehicle’s firmware to fix a bug, the GWSMART10 is not the tool you need. You would instead need a tool with J2534 capabilities. Short from that the GWSMART10 is a fully capable diagnostic tablet packed with many features. ... show more

  • What a beast. For those that work these all day you’ll understand why I recommend it.
Style: 10 in Tablet
This is definitely a high end machine. It has features for everything you need and costs half the price of its competitors. Also the renewal fee is $150 vs $1200. Its simple and easy to use. Has full functionality as the competition. System is responsive and fast. The dock is a nice touch. I hated having to plug in my other unit. Battery life is good. It has all the connections for the older cars without obd2 ports. Not sure how much use they’ll get seeing as most everything that comes in to the shop uses obd2. I guess if you work with classics this would be very beneficial. So far it feels similar to the tool truck unit I have at work. I’ve yet to run into a situation where I couldn’t use it and had to go back to the tool truck unit. Now is it worth the cost? Hard to say. For a diyer id say no. It costs a-lot initially and needs a yearly subscription after the first 3 years at $150 a year. Most diyers need it for brakes. Battery replacement. And occasional diag or ecu reset. Gearwrench makes a unit with no fees for a 1/4 cost and id highly recommend it for someone who doesnt wrench for a living. For hardcore enthusiast with a garage full of cars yes. These guys either are techs or were and have a passion for cars. You will need something of this caliber. But since we all know cars are a money pit, instead of buying another tool truck unit id go with this. The fees alone are fractions in cost. And as I’ve said before I’ve yet to run into a situation that it couldn’t handle. For a tech or even master tech id say yes. Live data. Crossover data. Ecu access. Its got it all. And the sub fees don’t cost $1200 a year. IMO its worth it. Also it has compatibility with aux units. Such as the boroscope cam from gearwrench. I can only assume they will slowly roll out more unique add on devices to use with this. Great features. Its pricey yes. But its not for the average user. Everything is made well and feels solid. I definitely recommend it. ... show more

  • It works well but half as powerful as the xtool version
Style: 10 in Tablet
This scantool is a reskin of the Xtool IP919 Max from everything I see. It's priced about the same so I was excited because I really like my Gearwrench tools. I first started suspecting it was an Xtool when the interface was identical to my Xtool D8W that I replaced this with. Works well, can, provides a ton of functions. Don't get this for regular scanning and diagnostics, the OBD module box is massive. Works both wired and wirelessly. The reason for the 3 star is while it works great, the Xtool has an 8 core processor where this uses a 4 core and it has 4GB of ram vs 8GB on the Xtool. both have 128gb storage. I wish this had an SD card slot. The lower line Gearwrench does so that is odd. ... show more

  • Excellent vehicle diagnostic tool! Excellent vehicle diagnostic tool!
Style: 10 in Tablet
I got this diagnostic tablet so my son could scan and work on all of our personal vehicles, and it has worked perfectly so far. The setup was straightforward, and the wireless connection makes it really convenient to use without dealing with a bunch of cables in the garage. The tablet itself feels solid and well made, definitely designed for real shop use. It’s fast, responsive, and the battery life seems very good. We’ve used it on multiple vehicles already and it’s been able to read codes, clear issues, and access much more detailed information than basic scanners. What really stands out is the amount of functionality included. The bidirectional controls and reset/relearn features make this feel much more professional than a standard code reader. Being able to run tests and see live data is incredibly useful if you do your own maintenance or repairs. I also appreciate the included software updates for the first three years, which adds a lot of value considering how expensive some diagnostic subscriptions can be. Overall, this is an impressive diagnostic tool that feels professional-grade while still being user friendly enough for home mechanics and DIY vehicle maintenance. ... show more

  • Powerful Professional Scan Tool with Great Value Updates Powerful Professional Scan Tool with Great Value Updates
Style: 10 in Tablet
The GEARWRENCH GWSMART10 is an impressive diagnostic tablet and a great scan tool for automotive mechanics who want professional-level capability without extremely expensive subscription costs. The tablet itself feels well built and clearly designed for full-time shop use, with a rugged housing, a fast processor, strong 5GHz Wi-Fi, and a large easy to read 10" display. One thing that stands out right away is how easy the software is to use. The interface appears very similar to Launch style diagnostic software, which many technicians are already familiar with. That makes navigating menus, accessing systems, and running tests straightforward even the first time using it. The bidirectional control and system coverage are excellent. It supports full system diagnostics and over 51 reset and relearn functions including ABS bleeding, steering angle calibration, injector coding, battery resets, throttle matching, TPMS reset, transmission adaptations, and more. Being able to command modules, run active tests, and monitor live data with graphing and comparison tools makes it very capable for real diagnostic work. The topology mapping and advanced data tools are also a big plus. Being able to quickly visualize vehicle systems and analyze live data streams or freeze frame information can save a lot of time during troubleshooting. The included accessories are another strong point. The wireless VCI connects quickly and allows you to move freely around the vehicle without dealing with cables. The rapid-charge dock is a really nice touch for keeping the tablet charged and ready in the shop, and the large set of OBD adapters helps with older or specialty vehicle connections. Everything also comes with a protective carrying case to keep the kit organized. Another major advantage is the 3 years of free software updates, which is better than many competing diagnostic platforms that require expensive yearly subscriptions right away. After the first three years, the update cost is only about $150 per year, which is very reasonable for a professional diagnostic tool. Overall, the GWSMART10 is a powerful, easy to use diagnostic tablet with broad vehicle coverage and strong professional features. Between the bidirectional controls, large number of reset functions, wireless connectivity, and the generous update policy, it offers excellent capability and long-term value for automotive technicians. ... show more

  • Good OEM alternative
Style: 10 in Tablet
I have so far hooked up to a Chevrolet, GMC, Nissan, and Ford and while the diagnostics for all was impressive, the system was slightly less inclusive for Ford and Chevrolet. The computer is consistently updating, so that might change in the future. I understand that having one system that is the end all, be all for every vehicle make is not realistic, but this unit comes as close as I’ve seen so far. The complementary updates for three years is a nice feature, and even for a smaller scale mechanic the purchase of updates following that for $150 (as of review posting) a year is reasonable. Overall, the unit itself is accurate at a 10 inch display, so be prepared that this is not going to be a one-handed device unless you’ve really put yourself in a pickle. It’s incredibly easy to set up and the functionality is pretty intuitive and not difficult to figure out if you are already in the automotive industry. The battery life and Bluetooth are both features that I have been very impressed with thus far. The case around the computer also makes it feel very durable, but it does cause it to be a bit slippery, especially if your hands are already dirty. ... show more
