This reminds me of tools made 35 years ago - high quality, high strength and exceeds in function! The locking feature is simple: the collar slides back releasing the detent ball, put the socket on the end and let go of the collar as it 'spring loads' back into place, locking the socket on. Since the socket is THIRTY-ONE inches away on this thing, this is a "sliced bread" design!!! PS. this 31" was actually cheaper than the EXACT comparable 24" which, makes no sense. I used this extension to reach bolts when removing bell housing bolts to remove transmissions. Love the locking mechanism Update: after 10 months of use, the locking mechanism broke. I sent an email to gearwrench and they sent me a replacement within a week. I got keep my old extension which has become a permanent extension with a swivel ... show more
