I had not heard of GearIT before getting this Cat7 cable but I was immediately impressed by the business card that comes packaged with this ethernet cable - it basically says, we don't buy reviews. Instead GearIT does it the old fashioned way - they simply ask you to login to your Amazon account, find your order, and submit a review, no begging, pleading, or cajoling for a positive review, I find that refreshing. The cable I ordered was 3 feet in length, and the cable itself is a flat wire with well-designed connectors (see picture). The cable feels sturdy and the packaging says it’s rated for outdoors use. In getting this Cat7 cable, I will freely admit that I was more curious than anything, as I am not running a high speed data center requiring gigabit throughput, I have a simple home network running off a cable modem and wifi router, with an ethernet switch to increase the number of available ports; one of those ports is an ethernet to Powerline run, to provide “wired” connections to other parts of the house. There are many potential "weak" points in my setup, but I figure the most important run is the one from the modem to the router and then the run from the router to the switch. As the cable I am using for the modem to router was packaged with my new mesh system, I'm guessing it's at least Cat6, while the old cable I had lying around for the router to switch is likely Cat5 and six feet in length. At these lengths, I'm doubtful that length has much impact, so I ran a speed test with the old Cat5 (6') length, then another one right after with the new Cat7 GearIT (3'). The speed test was run from a desktop computer that is connected via ethernet over a Powerline adapter, which connects to the Powerline adapter run off the switch in another part of the house, so is as pure a test of the cable as I can get, no wifi involved. The results: first one with the old cable was 15.86 Mbps download, 7.18 upload (this is at primetime when neighborhood congestion is at its peak; admittedly a better test would have been run at 2 am); the new cable was 15.52 Mbps download, 8.55 upload. To me, that’s pretty much a wash, which was no surprise, just confirms that a short run of cable is not a limiting factor in network speeds. So it works just fine for home use but don’t expect a big change in performance. However if you are looking for a sturdy, high quality flat cable for networking use and don’t mind paying a little more compared to a Cat6, this one should work well. ... show more

    • Top Quality Flat Ethernet Cable!

I have to admit that I'm new to the GearIT brand of Ethernet cables, but I've used a lot of Ethernet cables over the years, so I know a good quality cable when I see it, and this cable is of premium quality. The connector is gold plated, the outer shield on the connector is nickel plated and the jacket is outdoor rated. I also noticed that it had a good solid click when I plugged it in, which is a good indicator that the overall quality of the connector is good. Cheap quality connectors don't have a solid click when plugged in and they are sometimes hard to remove, but I experienced none of that with this connector. Unfortunately I don't have easy access to a 10Gbit network set up right now so I can't test the full capabilities of this cable, but it handles my 1Gbit home network without breaking a sweat. To test the cable I transferred a very large video file over the network and it transferred at very near to the maximum of the 1Gbit that my network is set up for. As anyone experienced with networking knows, you will have some small losses in overhead when going through your router and switches so this was as good as I could hope for out of any Ethernet cable when it comes to transfer speeds. Overall I have to say that I'm impressed with the quality of product that this brand produces and I will have to remember to keep an eye on GearIT for my future cable needs. ... show more

    • Excellent quality, great upgrade for connecting 2.5gb switches

Having installed/run CAT 5 network cable throughout my attic to all the rooms in my house 20+ years ago, I felt it was about time to upgrade/future proof my house. About 3 years ago I upgraded to high quality gigabit switches throughout, and I could never get that "extra" speed due to the older CAT 5 cables.. it came close, but never sustained. Over the last 2 to 3 years I've upgraded to gigabit Cable modem service and now recently multi-gigabit fiber. All of my new networking equipment has 2.5gbe ports and when testing with a short CAT 8 patch cable, I hit the max speed of the fiber connection, however everywhere in my house is limited to both the cabling and switches, never really breaching the 980mbs or so speed in best conditions/shortest run... with average speeds in the 500-600 range when testing on other side of house over wired connection. That's where this cable comes in. I ordered this cable to replace the main run across my entire attic to upgrade the speed and connection from one side of the house to another. I did so, and replaced with 2.5gbe switches on both side, got the 2.5gbe connections to activate, and boom! Instant upgrade and sustained speeds. Having this cable shielded, and rugged enough for outdoor use means I am now future proof for the next hopefully 10-20 yrs without worrying about the heat in my south florida attic :) ... show more

I ordered this cable to have an all purpose rugid cable I could run for inside the house. This cable is exceptionally good quality and checks off all the possible boxes you could ask for. It is cat 7 compliant meaning it will handle all current ethernet and also future ethernet devices. I love the quality of the connection of the shell into the cable. it's solid with no loose molding and provides a very solid seating into a receptacle. There is strain relief molded into the shell and the housing is premium material and build quality. I also like that this uses solid copper making this a premium cable. A nice added feature is this is a flat profile. so this can be run evenly to a surface and keeps a low profile. The quality of outer insulation is abrasive resistant and has a durable texture. I plan to use this to run IP inside the house and I like the flat profile that will make it easy for stapling to my rafters. I can't think of a single negative thing to say about this cable and would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone wanting an ultra high end quality ethernet cable. This is high quality, future proof, and flexible to be used for burying, POE, and long data runs. ... show more
