This is a nice looking air conditioner that is quiet and very effective. Fan is a bit loud at the highest setting, but almost silent on the low setting. No compressor noise at any setting. I ran it on the highest setting and it cooled my 800 sq ft condo from 78 degrees to 70 degrees in about an hour. After that I changed it to low and it maintained temperature.     • Very quiet running AC.

I am very happy with this unit. After installing it in a wall sleeve the unit ran full speed to cool off the hot room. When the room came close to set temperature it slowed down with a very acceptable noise level. The unit has an app to run it remotely. The wall sleeve is about 6 inches wider than the unit to allow for air circulation which it must have. The outside noise is acceptable as well. To do this you will need to either mount the unit temporally and remove in the fall or permanently insulating it in the sleeve. It is an inverter motor so it runs at different speeds depending on need. It has been running for a month now and my electric bill hasn't jumped excessively even though it runs on 115 volt house current. The app reads about 500 watts of power consumption at 1/2 power although I don't know if that is believable. It also shows about 7kw on a hot (90 degrees) sticky day in Iowa. Go figure yourself. It has an ECO feature which shuts off the fan and compressor when the desired temperature is reached. It is the default setting and I would leave it on. The unit evaporates the condensation so it doesn't drip. The outside fan throws the condensation water into the hot coil to do this. You can hear the water hitting outside the coil on very muggy days. ... show more

This is a really nice air conditioner. We bought it to replace a traditional 12,000 BTU window unit that stopped working this year. This 14,000 BTU GE is very light for this power level and was much easier to install than the old one. The unit cools very well, and because it has an inverter compressor it is quieter, and you don't get the loud change in sound when the compressor kicks on. The only nitpick I have with it is that the remote is a little slow; if you change the fan speed on the remote there is maybe a half-second delay before the display on the unit reflects the change. It's not a real problem since this is mostly a set-it-and-forget-it type thing, however, and if this is the only complaint I have about it I am more than pleased with this purchase. ... show more

The air conditioner is nice, but the remotes are horrible. I bought two air conditioners and the remotes are the worst i have seen. They aren’t responsive and hesitate. It makes me angry since these are not cheap prices.

The first air conditioner I got when I put it in the window in my bedroom didn’t work. It shuttered shook. Would run for a few minutes shut off and then start up again never given out cold air. got a hold of GE and they told me I should get a hold of Amazon so I got a hold of Amazon and they were absolutely great. They gave me three choices one to have somebody come out and repair it to ship it back and get a refund or three ship it out and get a replacement. I chose a ladder and this call went out to them late in the evening and I had the new air conditioner by noon the next day. No one can guarantee that everything‘s gonna be in great working condition when you get it. It’s just the way things are today. That being said Amazon made it whole and I couldn’t be happier and it’s not the first time that I’ve had a problem with the product and Amazon backed it and took care of it. I love this air conditioner cause it was quiet only use 9.1 Amps , 10,000 BTU, it’s quiet and it’s a light, lighter than other 10,000 BTU units that I’ve had. I needed a quiet AC cause it’s going to my bedroom.I’ve been running it all day and it’s been great so far. I’m gonna give GE4 stars I mean not everything‘s gonna be perfect but if I could get five stars, it would be to Amazon and their people again they were great to work with and I love the machine. ... show more

    • Make this one adaptation to quiet down unit

It says 'do not drill' ignore or you will suffer with loud clanging sounds of water hitting the fan. Note: this will void your warranty if they find out. When you drill you have to make sure not to hit those copper coils (or anything else) so you really have to pay attention where you put the hole. There is still a little corner that's holding water so I put a metal clip wire in there and bent it to shape so that it will help the water find its way outI. I've found my energy usage (by using the app) is lower since I put the hole. The fan is slowed in that puddle of water and it may cool your compressor but in the end, it seems to use more power to push through that water build up. I put a bucket under and use the water on my plants, they thrive with it. Also the quiet setting is a super low fan setting and it doesn't really cool the room anymore so just regular 'low' is quiet enough for me to sleep. Also I had no problems with the app. It seems to work perfectly. I did have to delete the first download and redownload the app as it wouldn't load the first time. I was on the verge of buying a quiet window AC by a highly rated brand, just as news broke out that their AC was being quietly pulled from store shelves all over the country. It was rumored that the company was going to announce an official recall, and a week later, they did. To avoid the hassle of buying a product that was faulty, I researched other AC brands and chose this one by General Electric. I'm really happy I made this choice. We've had it for over a month, and it works flawlessly. It's so efficient and nowhere near as loud as the old window AC that we bought 24 years ago.
