PIECE OF and they know it. Unbelievable that in 2025 a company the size of GE is putting out a product with such continued problems. Do not go into cleaning mode unless you’re ready to spend hours troubleshooting it yourself. It makes great ice until it glitches. Yes, I tried the 15+ suggestions on YouTube and FB and AI. There is NO reset (I tried what was recommended). It will make ice WITH the cleaning indicator flashing (make it make sense). No, the app isn’t any help - tried that as well. We sent back the previous version of this ice maker the day before the warranty was up (364 days). The second unit lasted 1-2 years, and then we had to throw it away because of the myriad of problems. We bought the 2.0 during Prime Days. So sad. Yes, we had to learn all of the tricks the first time around. Obviously, some people are able to make it work, which is great for them. It produces great ice WHEN IT WORKS. No, it’s not OE (operator error). I wish!! I’ve got two engineering degrees and have fixed dozens of devices and appliances for decades. It literally seems to be too “sensitive.” We got a Frigidaire unit and it is FLAWLESS. Gave it to our daughter and now we’re about to purchase one ourselves. Unless you’re a mechanical engineer and have serviced ice makers for a living, I highly recommend you pass on this. ... show more

This is one fantastic ice maker! This was purchased on a recommendation from a friend. It stores a ton of water, makes a ton of ice, the ice is soft and chewable, and it does it fast! It's a little louder when you first turn it on but once the ice starts coming out it's very very quiet. I love the smart feature because I can have ice ready for when we wake up in the morning to fill our cups. You can set schedules to make ice you can use an app to make ice it's got a cool LED light to light it up. There's nothing that I dislike about this ice maker. This is my 6th ice machine at home. I put off buying the Opal because of the price, and the others lasted about a year each before dying. I've had large and small bullets and other "nugget" machines, and this is definitely the most quiet (so far) and best of the lot. That being said, while it does make nugget ice, it most certainly does NOT make "Sonic" ice. For comparison, the photo with the silver cup is from the industrial machine at work I'd buy if I had the room. It makes true scraped, extruded ice like you can get at Sonic- almost like shaved ice. Almost. The photo in the clear cup is from the Opal, which makes chopped nuggets from a frozen tube of ice. Close, but not quite the same. If the machine stays quiet and lasts more than a year (hopefully several years!), I'll be happy. ... show more

Purchased 03/24 and writing review in 05/25. Pros: Makes ice fast; Perfect-sized nuggets; Extra water tank is essential when you have friends over; Easy to clean and maintain, which is essential for proper operation Cons: Can get noisey; Requires cleaning just about every 21-25 days, regardless of water type (tap, filtered, distilled); Does impact you electricity bill (but totally worth it). Overall: 5 stars...one of the best kitchen gadget purchases we have ever made. We have experimented with different water types to determine impact to overall operation, length of time between cleanings, and flavor of ice...all negligible. We just use tap water now, and gave up on the hassle of distilled water delivery. Pro tip - when it says to clean it, do it and don't wait. 4 cycles (1 with bleach, 3 without) takes an hour and keeps this thing purring along. ... show more
