  • Very Quiet, Until It Isn't - GE customer relations is garbage. I hope yours just works.
Size: 12000 BTU Style: Inverter Color: White
The media could not be loaded. This AC unit works pretty well as far as cooling. Most of the time it's whisper quiet. Until it comes on full blast. Then it starts making this loud buzzing noise that doesn't seem like it should be making. As it's gearing up it gets a little louder then out of nowhere this buzzing sound. I've tried adjusting its mounting but it seems to be coming from inside the unit. *Update* My experience with GE has been abysmal. I spent $600 on a window AC unit specifically because it is quiet. As soon as summer started in Florida this thing sounds like a jet engine. So I contact customer support because I’ve only owned it for just over 3 months so it’s still under warranty. They send out a tech who can’t fix it. So customer relations sends me 2 good will certificates totaling approximately $600. Issued on 4/19/23. We are in the middle of moving to New York so I wait a few weeks until we are settled and call to request a change of address for the certificates. I don’t hear anything for 2 weeks so I call again. I’m told they are on their way. 2 more weeks, I call again. They tell me a supervisor will contact me. 2 more weeks, I call again and I’m told the original customer service person canceled my service request so the change of address request never notified the correct team. She starts a new request. 2 more weeks and I check the status online. The last customer service person, while very helpful, set up the new request for only half of what I paid. I call again and inform the customer service person what is going on. By this point the certificates have expired. She makes the necessary corrections and send out 2 new certificates with new expiration dates. She then informs me that they will not extend the date again. Which was annoying for many reasons but I didn’t argue. I finally receive the correct certificates, buy and AC, and return the receipt. I called again 2 weeks after mailing everything back to verify they have been received. The first customer service person tells me that they can only see one of the certificates. I’m transferred to 3 different people before the last person tells me that she can see that both, have in fact, been received. A claim that I am rather dubious of but I suppose we will see. This was on 8/29. We are now closing in on the 5th month since this started. I'll update when something happens. ... show more

  • Solid window unit
Size: 12000 BTU Style: Inverter Color: White
If you need a unit for a large room then this is it. It cools down my large living room quickly. It has a couple cool features like wifi and it's very quiet on low and medium fan setting. If you run it on hi it's comparable to noise levels that other units produce.

  • Short Life A Lot of Money
Size: 10000 BTU Style: Inverter Color: White
When this a/c works as intended it works well. Cools room fast, very quiet. Unfortunately, after one season the unit stopped working. Compressor dead causing it to short out after turning on for about 5 seconds. Of course, putting back in the window upon the new summer season…the 12 month warranty has expired so I am out $400’s and had to spend $600 to replace it. I purchased Asurion Insurance through Amazon last year when I purchased this and another air conditioner unit. When I search Asurion for coverage, both plans are associated to the other a/c unit by Midea which is working fine. I don’t have the time to argue with customer service or to schedule a service call that would likely result in being told there is no affordable or easy way to fix the unit. ... show more

  • I have two
Size: 12000 BTU Style: Inverter Color: White
When the compressor kicks on, I believe the noise is quite a bit over the rated DBs. I had a GE tech come out and was not very helpful with figuring out the excess noise. I bought sound damping panels that got it where I could handle. They are very energy efficient. Its impressive. Highly recommend.

  • Quiet, cool, but can’t be installed properly/app doesn’t work
Size: 12000 BTU Style: Inverter Color: White
This air conditioner is quiet and runs great. The problem that I have is with installation. The screws on the side of the unit to secure the air conditioner to the window cannot be loosened, preventing you from installing it properly. It is so tight that you can see from the pictures that it destroyed my screwdriver Also, the app doesn’t work. Can’t even create an account to get started ... show more

  • BUYER BEWARE - Arrived dropped & dented & makes an insufferable high-pitched, tinnitus-like whine
Size: 12000 BTU Style: Inverter Color: White
When Amazon tells you that this item is frequently returned: listen & buy something else. I went with this model because my previous GE air conditioner started draining on the inside of the house. It was still under warranty, but GE refused to service it and instead offered me a "Goodwill Rebate," which I used to buy this thing. LESSON: Maybe avoid GE air conditioners. The box looked slightly banged up when I got it but not like it would have affected the product, only after I'd opened it and started assembling parts did I realize that one side was dented and bending inward. It's so heavy and the box sort of disintegrated upon opening, so I thought I'd try it anyway instead of returning it. Wish I'd just returned it. Once installed, it is MOSTLY quiet, with these exceptions: * It rumbles when it first starts, which I solved by wedging some firm foam between the window case and the side where it's slightly dented. If you push in on the dent, no rumbling. * Sometimes it sounds like an entire party of rodents is inside a wall, chowing down on wires and making a nest inside it. I have found nothing to fix this. * It makes a high-pitched whine that sounds exactly like tinnitus when the compressor runs. Again, I haven't found a fix to this. The concept is great. It's so quiet, you wonder if it's working, but it does cool. The inverter is sort of like a continuously variable variable car engine — it doesn't have hard levels but smoothly adjusts as needed, unlike a traditional unit which is either at max or off. The idea is that after the room reaches the desired temp, the inverter doesn't completely turn off but slows down to produce a milder cooling effect so the temperature is more even and consistent than a traditional air conditioner — and quieter and more energy saving. HOWEVER, these machines are obviously very finicky and do not like Amazon shipping. If you want one, you are better off buying at your local hardware store where you can be sure the item isn't damaged before you buy it. This thing was a MONSTER to put in because it's so heavy, so instead of immediately returning it, I'm going to see if, haha, GE will send someone out to look at it. But Lord Sneezes, it's driving me nuts. If it were in a different part of the house, it would be fine. It's in my office in a converted sun room, and I can't really get away from it. ... show more
