I’m pretty happy with the performance of this GE brand AC (8,000 BTU). It’s exactly the right size for my family room and cools the space down really fast. Installation was straightforward with the included kit, and the unit feels secure and well-made once in place. The GE SmartHQ app is great. I can adjust the temperature, change modes, or even turn it on and off from my phone. It also works with Alexa and Google Assistant, but I’ve mostly just stuck to the app and remote. Let me get straight to the point: this model uses a standard compressor, not an inverter compressor. That means it’s not as quiet as some newer models. GE lists it at 58 dB, which is fine for a lot of people, but if you're used to inverter ACs like I am, you'll notice the difference. For context, I also own a 14,000 BTU inverter unit that runs at 45 dB, and another 8,000 BTU inverter unit at just 41 dB. Keep in mind that each 10 dB increment up or down equals 10 times more or less noise. A 20 dB difference is 100 times more or less noise. Based on decibel math (a logarithmic scale), this GE 8,000 BTU unit is close to 100 times louder than my quietest 8,000 BTU inverter AC. Yes, you read that right. It’s close to 100 times louder than an inverter AC unit. That doesn’t mean it’s deafening; it just has that classic cycling noise you expect from a standard window unit. Inverter AC units typically cost about $50 to $100 more on average. If sound level is a dealbreaker for you and you’re aiming for whisper-quiet, I’d recommend springing for an inverter model. But if you’re okay with normal AC noise and want a reliable, smart, energy-efficient unit that cools well, this GE is a solid pick, especially for the price. ... show more

This window AC unit works great. It is a little noisier than a smaller version that I already have, but I expected that to be the case. It was very easy to install and the included instructions are easy to follow. The remote works well from anywhere in the room. The fan blows very cold and on high it can easily be felt across the room. I love the Eco mode, it automatically shuts the unit off once the desired room temperature is reached and will cycle on and off as needed to maintain that temperature. The display will turn off after a few minutes, so no annoying glowing numbers in the middle of the night. I do have to press the power button twice to turn the unit on, only press once to turn it off. There's an app that will allow you to connect the window unit to your home wifi and be able to control the unit from your phone from anywhere, even outside the home. The app will also allow you to set a schedule from the unit to turn off and on automatically, show how much power the unit is using and the status of the filter. Here in Florida, it's not uncommon for us to lose power during a hurricant and the next day have schorching heat for days on end. Having a generator that will run my refrigerator and a portable AC unit, this will be nice to beable to heep parts of my house cool on those hot days. I received this AC unit today and immediately unboxed it. I was shocked by how small and lightweight it is. It can easily be installed into a window by one person in just a few seconds. Just make sure to remove any external screens first, oh, and open the window! Then just rest it on the window sill, close the window on top to hold it in place, and extend the side flaps to close the openings, then just plug it in and let the cooling begin! I installed this in my kitchen window and within minutes, I had it on and the cool air was flowing. It looks good and even on high, it is not very loud. Not that I would be concerned with noise in an 85F+ degree house. The functions are very simple; power button, +/- temp control, mode, and speed. Lights for filter change, WiFi connection (to control via my iPhone app), sleep indicator, and included remote control are nice, convenient touches. Within 30-minutes, this little block of cooling power had pushed cool air into my kitchen, family room, hallways, and was trying to cool my home office. Seeing as this is capable of cooling 450sqft or 4.5 10'x10' bedrooms, this is worth every cent! ... show more

This thing will freeze you out put it in my bedroom 430 feet it’s well insulated but it get cold fast as in 5 minutes!
