  • Happy with the device, documentation could be a lot better!
Style: Rearview Radar with Tail Light
Had my eye on this for a while - I do a lot of road riding. Finally pulled the trigger when it went on sale. Setup and install was pretty easy. Turned it on, powered up my Garmin 530 Edge head unit and Garmin pretty much did the rest. It's a little confusing that Garmin sees the unit as two separate devices: a radar unit, and a light network. My biggest complaint is the Garmin setup/quick start manual. Garmin must've been worried about printing costs since they felt it necessary to use as few words as possible. Even their online manual for the unit is cryptic. I muddled through but it sure would be nice for Garmin to explain what each setting does in detail. Also, the enclosed quarter twist mount fit my mountain bike seat post ok, but my road bike and my touring bike both have bigger seat bags and there was no way to mount the unit unless I jettisoned my seat bag. I was able to find a plastic clip mount on Amazon to mount the unit behind my seat bag, but the price was so outrageous for a piece of plastic I decided to fabricate my own (see images). I rigged up a clippable mount using a shower curtain hook and a dowel rod. A little crude but it works fine and I can swap it on the fly to either bike by clipping it to the loop on the back of the seat bag. The rack on my touring bike interfered with the radar, so I just mount the light upside down and it's fine. Operationally, it works great with my Garmin Edge head unit. I updated the setting so the light/radar doesn't activate until I "start" a ride on the Edge unit, and once i complete the ride the radar goes back into standby (Garmin calls this a "timer" setting?, umm, ok). At first I didn't think I was getting any audio warning, but after a while I realized that the chirping I heard wasn't a spring robin, but my head unit. It chirps 3 times when a car comes into range. Once I recognized the sound my brain started to isolate it from road and wind noise and by the time my ride ended the audio alert was my cue to look at the head unit. Usually I get an amber color and a dot (or series of dots - for multiple cars) to show me the car's approach. Today I got several red colored alerts, I assume because I was riding on a road with faster traffic and red is a sign the vehicle is approaching at a fast pace (again - Garmin doesn't feel necessary to explain this in detail). Overall I'm happy with the unit though I will never give up my helmet mirror. It's another tool to alert me to traffic, especially on long rides when I start to get tired and immune to traffic sounds. If it weren't for the lousy documentation I'd give it 5 stars. ... show more

  • Get this item NOW!
Style: Rearview Radar with Tail Light
I can't under state the value of this item. Of all the upgrades or add ons a person can do to a bike, this has got to be one of the best things a person can buy. The light alone is fantastic, but it's the radar that makes this such an important item to have. It's dangerous enough as it is on the road, but to know what is behind you adds a bit of safety to every ride. For this device, a head unit that is able to connect to the radar is needed. Wahoo has one, but I don't know what model, Garmin's x30 models and above are all compatible with this radar. Use this with a mirror to make riding even more safe. If you are thinking about this, I would highly recommend it. ... show more

  • This thing is awesome
Style: Rearview Radar with Tail Light
I laughed when this first came out said it was just another tech crap gadget. I was wrong and will never go anywhere without it. I paired it with my Wahoo Elment Bolt non color - I had no issues with it - it would alert each time a vehicle approached from behind and not once did it pick up a vehicle that had passed me on the opposite side of the road - on the bolt a little travel lane will appear on the left or right and it will show a little square or car approaching and it will also light the LED lights it picked up 4 vehicles coming up behind me and I would confirm this visually since I have a helmet mirror. Make sure you take the time to mount it as high as you can on your seat post to give it a clear line of site. Pairing is so easy you will laugh least it was with the Bolt. Once you pair it u can set it to either blinking or solid. I think you can control how it reacts if you have a Garmin Head Unit. Wahoo will let u change the side and u can change just a few simple things. This so far has been my purchase of the year I have been hit before when I was by myself now this helps still no substitute for using your eyes but it’s like having an extra paranoid set of eyes ... show more

  • Performed beyond my expectations
Style: Rearview Radar
I had my first ride with the rvr315, it warned me every time a car is overtaking me , it warned me about multiple cars, no missed or false alarms , now I’m a million times safer on the road. It alerted me long before I heard the cars coming. I can go on forever. I’m using it with the iPhone app , I wish I had bought it years ago . ... show more

  • Amazing!
Style: Rearview Radar with Tail Light
I live in a fairly high traffic area and my neck isn't as flexible as it used to be. This allows me to use my phone to know that cars are coming up behind me. It can see several cars at a time and beeps when cars are detected. It beeps again when they've passed. There are a few cycling apps that this is compatible with as well as several different models of cycling computers. I love that it alerts me as I am not always staring at the handlebar mirror while enjoying a leisurely ride. ... show more

  • Better than I thought
Style: Rearview Radar with Tail Light
I was thinking, do you really need a radar when you can just hear a car approaching -- but this gives you a "heads up" even before you hear a vehicle. Gives you time to make sure you are where you need to be on the road. I like it way more than I thought I would. Now I see why my friends told me I needed this. ... show more

  • Game changer for road cycling
Style: Rearview Radar with Tail Light
After using this light/radar for some time, I don't ride without it. It works best when you have a dedicated bicycle computer already. I have been super pleased with the accuracy and its performance. I ride on a state highway that has quite a lot of traffic on it, and sometimes the ridable shoulder is full of debris. Using this radar, I am able to determine if its safe to ride on the cleaner pavement and avoid the debris filled shoulder. I recommend this device to any road cyclist that has to share the road with vehicles ... show more

  • great warning device
Style: Rearview Radar
mounting is easy but really poor design and i don't trust the longevity or security of the 'rubber band' style. different mount made for my bike is on the way. that said gives good warning of approaching traffic from behind that really is not seen by convex mirrors or not heard
