Routing is superior to the native nav system that came with my car. It also is much better than Google Maps. Garmin lets me preview all the turns and roads it selects so I can avoid routes not suitable for motor vehicles. In a worst case scenario, this feature helps avoid "Death By GPS" as the National Park Service calls it. Locations can be stored in folders for easy recall and use. As an example, I have a folder of mountain bike trailheads. If you use Garmin Express for updates (I recommend it), it is very important to plug into a data transfer USB. For desktop computers, plug the cable into a USB port on the back. For laptops, try USB slots until you find one that works. ... show more

    • Easy to install and update thru Garmin app
I have other Garmin auto gps units. Through the app I was able to update the maps and transfer the favorites and my trips to the new one. The one down point (but not a deal breaker) is that you can only update names and phone numbers. If someone moves you have to put it in as a new entry and delete the old one. I also found at least one street name with a typo. SB Copper Ridge but the map reads Cooper Ridge. If someone is unfamiliar with the area it could cause confusion. ... show more

    • Works great and a great value
I purchased the renewed version. There was no screen protector, but the unit looked almost like new. As I recall, there was a slight mark on the back but I don't notice it. I purchased a screen protector and used the GPS to recently drive from AZ to the east coast. No problems.

Love this Garmin. "Refreshed" looks brand new and a great savings. So many useful features, traffic, what's ahead, turn distance, weather, etc.... You can talk to it "Hey Garmin". Directions are easy to see and hear on the 86 (Big Screen) but lightweight. Garmin needs to update their maps. My house was built two years ago, shows up on Google and Bing, but not the Garmin. Hey Garmin, you provide "maps", update please!. Superb effort by Garmin! Added BC 50...also a great product. See review. ... show more

    • Very slight learnng curve then works great.
I have mine mounted in the top left corner of my windshield. The bottom of the GPS is higher than the bottom of my sun visor, so there's no interference with seeing ahead. I watched a few youtubes to get familiar with it and then read the downloaded manual. Once I got used to how it worked, and its flexibility, I now use it a lot. It self-adapts to me making a change in route. Everything on it is clear. The suction mount works great on the windshield. I love this GPS great size and everything. Now it has restarted while I was counting on it to get me someone not for sure why it has done this, but it has twice so far. I thought I was going to have to pull over since I didn't know where I was going so I need it to stay on so far so good.

A couple of things that don't work for me. The interior of my new car (Prius) is a type of plastic that this Garmin won't attach to. Also, this larger screen DriveSmart 86, doesn't have larger text than my old DriveSmart 55 which I've decided to keep because I was looking for one that is easier to read.
