It's been a while since I last used a Garmin GPS navigation device, but this one lives up to the reliable performance I remember. The touchscreen is bright, responsive, and easy to use, even in direct sunlight, with virtually no glare. It makes it perfect for daytime driving. Also the simple on-screen menus and intuitive map display make for stress-free navigation. A few standout features: Driver alerts for speed changes and school zones are super helpful. Setup was a breeze—just plug it in, charge it up, and you’re good to go. You will need to connect it for updates but even if you do not want to do that you can still use the device right out of the box. The interface is beginner-friendly, not bogged down with overly technical features, however, it still packs some advanced options for the price and size. My favorite feature is the Lane Assist with junction view which clearly shows which lane to be in for exits, with a clean visual layout. I always hated using Google Maps for this, especially on busy multi-lane highways. Overall, very happy with my purchase as this Garmin unit is a solid device.

Nice GPS. Big screen and very clear. Learned not to leave a GPS in the car during Louisiana summers! Functionality is good. Got stuck with no WiFi signal so couldn't use phones. But GPS got us home.

This item, Garmin Drive 53 with Traffic reconditioned, which I received as a replacement for my original order, has caused significant inconvenience. The product produced an error when I attempted to register with Garmin, and as a result, no updates to the product software or maps are available. After exhausting all attempts to register this replacement, with the error resulting, I contacted Garmin both via online chat and phone. Prior to this, I tried all recommended steps to resolve the issue. I spent 43 minutes on the phone with an excellent Garmin support representative, providing various requested information, including product identification, and following each verbal instruction. The support person was unable to register my Garmin Drive 53. I am currently awaiting further assistance from another technical support person. During my phone call, the support person informed me that, “it could be today, hopefully by the end of this week, but possibly next week” before I receive a response. Since I could not register the initial device and accepted a replacement, it appears to both the Garmin support person and me that this is not an isolated incident. The only explanation I was given was that purchasers of the “Renewed Drive 53 with Traffic” from the same source probably have not attempted register or update the device or maps. This issue has significantly impacted my customer experience, and I do not recommend this offered item for purchase. This is not an out-of-the-box user friendly and straight forward item and does not perform as expected.

I'm not a techie. Don't have a lot of apps on my phone. With this Garmin, I can enter an address and I'm ready to roll. I can either mount it on my dash or keep in a holder in the beverage holder for an occasional glance. The directions are clear so I can keep my eyes on the road as Iisten for directions.

It works perfectly. I like the lane change images as well as the exit warnings. I was surprised to see that it records the streets you drive on so you can see where you have been. In all, it's a very good product.

Like other reviewers, this refurbished product is defective out of the box. It has no wifi capabilities (which it should if Garmin Express isn't available) and fails to connect to servers when attempting to update via Garmin Express. The battery is also faulty. The unit I bought failed to start up when it's not plugged into the computer. Get the full version. Don't bother with this garbage.
