  • Tiny and build Quality Tiny and build Quality
Style: Dash Cam Mini 3
I used X310 Front and Mini3 Rear. Cable route is easier with ODB2 connector. Build in battery life is good. I kept in the box and still juice when I open after a month. Not only Mini3 is small, Also X310 and X110 were small too with screen. Build quality is great and not feel like cheap. I just choose the Garmin Dash Cam because of longivity use. I wanna put that dash cams forever in that car and don't want to see issue later. If they have some camera issue, I will update in this review. I take X310 for my journey and that dash cam never fail. 1080 is still good enought to view clearly. I know Garmin Dash Cam were a bit pricy and I am not sure what I will get it back later. Connecting with phone is goood but sometime it take longer to connect live view. I will use parking mode later but I still use 10 min setup in Garmin OBD2 connector in this moment. I am glad I choosed Garmin Dash Cams instead of other brand until now. ... show more

  • *** Real world review, not a paid reviewer *** Good basic camera
Style: Dash Cam Mini 3
I am NOT one of the 'professional' reviewers that get stuff for free, in exchange or publishing a good review and video. I bought this myself, and as an engineer, I'm not to be critical of something, but realistic in my expectations. I read many reviews on this camera before purchasing, but decided to try it myself. I loved the small size of the camera, and no monitor on the back of it. Many of the 1 star videos mentioned how slow it was to get the video to view on their phone, but I didn't see where any of them had said they updated the firmware. I didn't check performance before the update, but I updated the firmware from version 2.70 to 3.10. I connected the phone to my computer with the USB-C cord that I charge my phone with, and used the Garmin Express app on a Windows computer to update the firmware. That was pretty painless. Afterwards running in a normal configuration where the camera was hooked to a power supply (phone charger or car plug), I was able to view my videos on my Galaxy S10e running Android in about 10 sec. It's only connecting at 2.4 GHz wifi, not the 5 Ghz. I've attached a sample of a real-world video in Cocoa Beach Florida in May, so pretty bright sunshine. I have not tried a night video yet. You can read a license plate on a car stopped in front of you, but as you approach it or it pulls away, you can judge for yourself the distance that you can read license plates. As the camera only records at 30 hz, when you are passing a car at 70 mph, you really can't read license plates. Overall, I like the size and the ease of operation. Just plug it in and forget about it. It doesn't intrude into your view out of the windshield, as I mounted mine behind the rear view mirror. It would record nicely if some car sideswipes you or some insurance scammer decided to back into you at a traffic light. It won't be able to read the license plate of a moving car that throws something out of window several car lengths in front of you, but it could identify the color, make, and model of the car. Keep in mind that this camera was released in 2023, so it's not recording in Super HD at 1,000 frames a second. You pay more for those cameras. You also have to put up with a monitor on the back of the camera. For basic protection at an affordable price, I give this camera two thumbs up. I'll be buying another one for the rear of my car as well. ... show more

  • Compact and High Quality Dash Cam
Style: Dash Cam Mini 3
The camera is incredibly compact, so it’s barely noticeable behind my rear view mirror. Video quality is clear in 1080p, and the 140-degree field of view captures plenty of detail. I like the automatic recording and voice control, allowing me to use it while driving without letting go of my steering wheel. The setup was easy, and it works reliably every time I drive. ... show more

  • Good camera - terrible app
Style: Dash Cam Mini 3
Good camera, easy to install. The resolution is not as good as I had hoped but it is adequate App is not good and the “hot-spot” speed to review the captured videos is horrendously slow

  • Great simple dash cam!
Style: Dash Cam Mini 3
This camera is more than enough for most drivers. It’s a simple, reliable dash cam that records whenever you’re on the road, what more can you ask? The compact design and lack of a screen make it easy to mount behind your rearview mirror, so it stays out of sight. The app was quick and straightforward to set up, and it doesn’t require an account, which is a nice change these days. The video quality looks crisp and clear with a wide-angle view that captures everything you need. I also bought the OBD power adapter, which made the wiring much cleaner. It lets you choose how long the camera stays powered after you turn off your car, with options for 10 minutes, 24 hours, or continuously. That flexibility is a great bonus. ... show more

  • Intermittently records, 1 minute each, no solid wireless connection
Style: Dash Cam Mini 3
I once looked at Garmin as a leader of devices, not after this. Quick tip: Only download with the card outside of the camera, or it will take an hour for a minute long video on wireless with the app. Intermittently records; It has a mind of its own. It decided to not record for minutes. Doesn't have a 5 minute loop option, except 1-3 minutes if I remember? Yet records for longer. It takes much longer to automatically turn on when the car is on. I would say 12 seconds. If I was in a rush it still wouldn't be on. The wireless connection is extremely sensitive even when right next to it. I recall seeing more than half the screen in brown color when reviewing the live feed, randomly freezing or disconnecting entirely. The connection takes a very long time to do, holding the photo button and waiting, it takes a much longer time than other devices I have used (Instant vs. 20-30 seconds). Downloading a video, good luck doing that wirelessly. 1% to 2% in a minute for a 1 minute long video. I ended up cancelling that for sure. The app side video downloading area is a wreck. You are shown you can actively shorten the video into a section you download, but it decides for its self whether you can or not. You can't move the slider over to create a section until you retry several times. I recall there being little to no settings options. The blue and red lights were confusing, one minute both are on, the next just one light, the next one off the other blinking. You look online for what they mean and they have a helpful visual, but you're left guessing what it's doing because the blinks are a little close together to immediately know. I was confused because it said if it was blinking like it was it was saving.. I have had a Garmin Nuvi GPS since 2008 that still works. Battery lasts for a minute then dies, but overall the settings are pretty straightforward and things work. So what happened in those 17 years? It's like they went backwards. Unless this a scam product I just don't understand, Garmin. I ended up getting the Rove R2-4K, which is the same cost and it's not a piece of trash, it's great quality unlike this thing. Rove actually tried to give options. ... show more

  • Pretty middling camera; Great video quality and installation; Terrible app UX/performance
Style: Dash Cam Mini 3
Great video quality and ease of recording. Start the car and go. Installation was pretty simple too once I had the right trim tools ($7 here for a set of a few plastic ones). Extremely compact size so it hides right behind the rearview mirror completely out of sight. Now the bad and it's bad . . Garmin's software is TERRIBLE. The app pretty much fails at its primary purpose to let you see and download your videos. I have no idea how they thought this was acceptable but it takes 10-15 minutes to "export" a 5 minute video clip in their app. I think it's some combination of processing and connection speed that they just couldn't figure out how to make more efficient but basically the app is useless for actually getting your videos off of the camera. The only recourse is to buy a third party app that will stitch together the 1 minute clips that Garmin stores the videos as and then access the SD card directly on your computer (or mobile device using an SD card adapter). Or just live with grabbing the 1 minute video clips yourself. So I like having the peace of mind that my driving is being recorded in the case I get into an accident but can't just take a look at any driving clip whenever I want to. ... show more
