Description

The compact, discreet gps-enabled Garmin Dash Cam 46 provides a wide 140-degree field of view that clearly captures important details in high- quality 1080 HD video if an incident occurs. It also provides advanced driver alerts (certain conditions may impair the warning function), including forward collision, lane departure and a “go” alert to enhance driver awareness. Get alerts for Red light camera and speed camera (not available in all areas) location alerts with unlimited updates via the Garmin Drive app. Say “OK, Garmin” to start/stop audio recording, take a still picture or start/stop the travel apse video capture feature. Automatic Multisided sync allows you to play back “picture-in-picture” video captured from up to four dash cams in use at the same time, so you can see Multiple points of view with the Garmin Drive app If an incident happens. Parking mode monitors your cards surroundings while your car is parked and the engine is not running. It automatically begins recording if and when motion is detected. a small camera that gets the job done. sure there's a ton of other cameras out there that have more options and better quality images, but for the price, this dash cam 46 is all most people really need in a dash camera. all i need is for a camera to reliably make good recordings - no need for other fancy features like gps tracking, etc. it's small and discreet, easy to set up (especially with the built in lcd display), and affordable. basically like a set it and forget it type of camera. there's also the option to wirelessly link it to any other garmin camera(s) in their line-up should you want to add an additional rear facing camera. plus it has a voice command option to control features that you can use to turn certain options on and off (by saying "ok garmin", then the command - it works well and keeps you from having to reach up and fiddle with the buttons.) i really like garmin's mounting system with a simple, small magnetic disc that is the only thing that adheres to your windshield. it's actually really easy to transfer this camera from one car to another if you need to as they provide an additional metal disc if needed. the camera is very affordable, so i just went ahead and purchased another for my secondary car. other cameras in the past that i have used sometimes had long startup times before recording would begin - anywhere from 15 seconds even up to 30 seconds. this can be very inconvenient, as what if you're in an accident or somebody hits you within that time? sure, you could sit there and wait for the recording to begin, but i'm sure, most people like me prefer to drive off right after starting my car. the garmin camera starts up quickly and begins recording by about 10 seconds, which is very good in my opinion. anything in the 10 second range or lower is great as that's about the average time most take to pull out of a parking spot or so. so by the time you've started really moving, the recording process has begun. setting up was easy with everything being able to be done using the onscreen display. just make sure to perform the firmware update to get everything up to date and working properly. one thing i just noticed is the camera actually has an internal battery. the manual says when fully charged it can power the camera for up to 30 minutes. pretty cool, if you'll ever need it. it also works to continue recording after the power is turned off. you can set up this option to continue to record for a designated time after power is turned off - another convenient feature. so far have only had it for a few weeks now, but i love it so much more than previous dash cams i've had in the past. i will provide an update after some time to follow up on how the camera has held up. ... show more

i bought this because I-35, Dallas North Tollway, 635, and basically all the major texas highways suck. i wanted something that could record all the time and if something were to happen then i could easily record it and access it on my phone. this dashcam does exactly that. the quality of the videos and pictures are good enough so that if i had to show the police what happened then they would be able to tell exactly what happened. its definitely worth the money. the bluetooth is probably the best part about it. ... show more

I like these cameras enough to keep buying them. My only real gripe is that the resolution is not always enough to capture license plate numbers (sometimes it does) and the app was finicky to work with on my phone. When I want the video, I end up putting the card in my computer and downloading it that way. On the 2 instances I have had to review video to prove what really happened in a collision, the cameras have been satisfactory. The "event record" function works very well. ... show more

I've had an earlier version of this on my other vehicle for several years and very happy with the quality and performance. This unit is pretty much the same with some added improvements like voice command to snap still shots. Set up is easy with options to choose from such as location, time and date, lane departure and my favorite is "traffic moving" for when you get distracted waiting on lights or in congestion. ... show more

Just took this on a 3700 mile trip. Overall a decent camera with too many quirks. Occasionally, gaps in coverages - it just didn't record. When I did have an incident on an unimproved road, a large deep sand trap bottomed the car and threw up a sand storm over the car - couldn't see anything - everything in the car was thrown about but the Garmin failed to save the event which one would have thought it would (incident detection simply failed). The driver assist warnings are annoying and overly sensitive - I finally turned them all off because I have all of those features (lane assist, etc...) built into the car and they are more reliable and less annoying. Sometimes the voice activation would not work. Pictures are relatively crisp and most times will capture a license plate for example, if close enough, but don't expect this to be a high def type of camera in spite of the description. The timelapse feature is interesting but set at way too fast speed for a savable movie to share - this should be adjustable by the operator. Red light camera and speed cameras feature never came on - perhaps I missed some? The videos in the saved folder appear to be random rather than those the operator requested to save or those occurring by incident. The smartphone app works okay but is VERY slow to transfer movies while in the car to the point of being useless. The editing function is not user friendly. The magnet mount to the windshield works well - no problems with it disconnecting even in the most jarring situations or weather extremes. The power cord is long and makes concealing the cord behind body panels neat and possible. Biggest disappointment was the failure of the incident monitor to capture and save a real incident, which was the main reason I purchased it. It's relatively expensive for something that doesn't keep real incidences. After my incident, I had to physically find the footage, download it to my phone to save it. Time consuming and unnecessary. Based on 2 1/2 weeks on the road and real life experiences, I would not recommend this dashcam. I used a new 64gb card in it and only once did it indicate it was experiencing a memory problem which was corrected by yet another reformat of the card in the unit. ... show more

Live this camera! Takes great pictures, easy to use and love the warnings it gives you! Driving too close to the white line or too close to the vehicle in front? It even knows when there is radar ahead or a dump truck in front of you! It truly is amazing!
