TIPS & TRICKS - Before using your Weasel® Nut Gatherer, quickly clear the area of large sticks, stones, or other debris that might obstruct the tool or obstruct its efficient use. - Use a smooth, steady rolling motion when using the Weasel® Nut Gatherer; this technique ensures that items are picked up efficiently. Be mindful of the pressure you apply to the handle, as excessive force can damage the cage or the handle. - Make sure to measure the items you are picking up and use the correctly-sized cage. Otherwise it will either be difficult to pick up the items (if they are too big) or it will be difficult to keep them gathered in the cage (if they are too small). Garden Weasel offers three different cage sizes to accommodate a wide variety of nuts, seeds, fruit, balls, etc. - Try to use the Weasel® Nut Gatherer in dry conditions. Wet nuts and debris can stick to the tool, making it less effective and the cage harder to empty. Dry conditions also mean the nuts are less likely to be buried in mud or obscured by wet leaves. - Empty your Weasel® Nut Gatherer frequently for best performance. When the cage is full you will know because the tool will not pick up new nuts effectively.

I never knew this existed. We have a one acre lot and lots of oak trees, which can make walking across the yard - well, a bit crunchy. The Garden Weasel Nut Gatherer is easy to use and fun. It is light weight but feels sturdy and well-made. It is easier and quicker in shorter grass without leaves and twigs, but it picks up the acorns and not the leaves and twigs. Just press lightly and walk at a moderate pace. Take a box or bag with you to empty the Gatherer into. Just spread the wires a bit and the nuts fall out. Garden Weasel is a brand I recognize and this item is a good value. You might consider contacting your Division of Forestry - in my area they are asking for acorns and possibly other tree seeds to plant. After you gather your acorns you can celebrate with a chocolate kisses acorn treat - you have my permission. ... show more

    • USED item sent but it works
I received a USED nut gatherer. I was suspicious when I received it because the label looked like it had been sent to someone else and returned. It had dirt and a small amount of rust on it. The company should be ashamed of sending out used merchandise claiming it is new. As I didn't have time to wait to return and receive a new one, I tried it out. It does pick up small acorns but it is not as easy as they make it look. I had to run it over small acorns several times for it to pick them up. However, it is easier than picking them up by hand and I'm sure my landscaper will be thrilled that his mower doesn't hit them anymore. The design would be improved if there was an easy way to empty it. You have to pull the rungs apart to dump the acorns. This might be difficult for someone with arthritis or limited strength. I would have given 4 stars if I had received a NEW one. It does work which is why I gave it 3. My neighbor gave his to his two young sons (5 and 7) and they had a ball rolling around the lawn picking up acorns. It doesn't require a lot of strength to operate picking up the nuts. ... show more

OMG! I want more acorns to fall in my yard. This thing is so easy to use and fun to pick up acorns. I wish there was an easier way to empty it. But I used it to pick up the handful if acorns left in my yard and then dumped them out to use the tool again. You will be shocked on how well it works. Purchased this to pick up small brass casings. Works very well on hard surfaces. The best brass pickup system I've ever seen. Highly recommend. I haven't tried in surfaces like grass.

    • Works OK, not great.
It definitely works, but the product could use some quality-of-life updates. The black hand wrap smears black coloring onto your hands; this was just after a half hour of initial use, straight out of the box. It does pick up nuts from an oak tree; however, it can't pick up hickory nuts unless they're outside of the shell. It definitely can't pick up the shell. You have to use a lot of force to scoop things up too. If you push down, and roll, when covering an area it works. I'm fairly strong and worked up a sweat after just 30 minutes. I'm not sure how a young or elderly person would be expected to use this. When the basket is full there is no way to empty it (at least none I have found) other than manually pulling the wires aside. I think if they used a better hand wrap, made the pole longer, and made the gap between the wires slightly larger it would work great. So, if you're younger (20s to 50s), and in decent shape, you can use it. If not, I wouldn't recommend it. ... show more
