This is a beautiful pair of red and black G-10 handle making scales for making a knife. G-10 is an extremely durable material constructed from layers of fiberglass soaked in resin, then oven-baked after compression. G-10 is impervious to UV, moisture & liquid. It is flame resistant and physically stable under climate change. G10 is used the world over in a variety of industrial applications as insulation material and is a high-end handle material due to its unrivaled toughness, low maintenance and excellent grip characteristics. It is also used as reinforcement parts in many types of sports equipment due to its flexibility. When sanded down and shaped, the layers will become visible, giving an exceptionally handsome look. I absolutely love these scales. The red was not a washed-out red as some I've seen, but rather it was a nice bright red and very deep black. Long bevels produce wider bands of color. The material polished pretty decent and is extremely, extremely tough. After I was done carving the scales to the shape I wanted I polished them down with 600 then 1,000 then 1500 sandpaper. When I was done with that I used a non-slip high gloss acrylic floor polish to put on a thin coat. This gave it a real lustrous shine. The floor polish did not make it slippery since it is designed for non-slip floors. I had several people comment it was the best-looking knife I made yet. My only problem is now I have several people wanting me to make them custom knives with this same handle material. ... show more

    • Wear a mask when sanding or cutting.
This product is difficult to cut and drill but is easy to sand and polish. The end result is very satisfying and provides a beautiful handle material that does excellent with use in water.
