Another review stated that the light will not come on with a timer, and this is incorrect. You can use this light with a third-party, regular light timer and this light will turn off and on, retaining the setting it was previously on. The reason I got this light is because my prior light came in a kit and needed to have a button pushed to come on with a timer. This light fixed that problem for me. I'd like to set the program using the remote, but it's far too cumbersome. You will not like the configuration process. Further, if the remote has the batteries replace, I believe you lose the config. The light quality is far superior to the basic LEDs I had. Between the quality of the light, my basic needs that this light puts out, and the sale price I purchased at, it's worth it to me. If this sounds like you, it'd be worth short-listing this one, but if you want to set up a more complex schedule, be prepared for some counter-intuitive, and often frustrating effort to set up. **EDIT/UPDATE** After having this light running for a few days, I can say that it runs extremely cool despite my expectations. The unit has a fan which runs when certain modes are at 100%. The fan stops whirring around 70%, but even with the light at 100% brightness, the fan is consistent and quiet. It's almost as if it's unnecessary, but definitely nice to know it's there. Still recommend this light if what I describe fits your use case.

If you want a good quality light for your planted tank that doesn’t break the bank, this one is a great choice. It gives off a beautiful shimmer on the walls and the surfaces around the aquarium that looks really nice in the room. I have been using this light for over a year now and even bought extra because of how well it works. My plants grow just as well under this as they do under my more expensive Chihiros lights. It even keeps my pothos happy when I let the vines grow out of the tank. I definitely recommend it.

The light itself is fine, but the built-in timer is laughable. It turns on about 10 minutes earlier every day, so I have to keep resetting it each week if I want it to have a normal day/night cycle. I thought we mastered simple timer technology like 50 years ago?

For the price of $50 bucks, the light doesn't come with automatic on and off timer for ease of use… just an off timer you have to manually turn on every morning… light is self was good and bright. Unfortunately it did have a burning smell, not sure if it will go away as i am returning the product. Also the fan noise is definitely noticeable, and turns on at 40% power, very annoying. But if is not in your bedroom, light it self is good, very bright and can see simmer too. Just not usable for me in my bedroom, as I’m a light sleeper. My small review to save you the trouble of returning the product. Cons: -burning smell (could just be my product) -fan noise -no build in automatic timer Pros: -light -build quality seems good -small form factor/clip on

I had to return one lamp already and got 2nd one promptly, I had the same problem, the full spectrum only works for two days, and now it is stuck on one of the four settings. I will not recommend this item unless you want it to function in one setting. Buyer beware!!
