I have extended experience with almost every lens Fuji makes. I'm an early adopter of most Fuji lenses when they come out, and I've been using them over now some four models of Fuji cameras. I need not again go into how fantastic the vast majority of these lenses are. By this point in time (late 2018), the "secret" is out: Fuji makes lenses that stand up to Zeiss, Schneider, Voigtlander, etc., but at 1/3 the price. Many people have now found that, if they acquire the Fuji XF 24mm F/1.2, the Fuji XF56mm, and the Fuji XF 90mm, they have a set of lenses that are simply nothing less than astounding and can be used to take photographs that truly are stunning. Heck, even the XF 10-24mm wide-angle zoom produces images so good through its range that you would swear you were shooting with a prime, and the often-overlooked XF 55-200m lens (sometimes the recipient of some uplifted noses) knocks out gorgeous photos (and both of these last two zooms come with image stabilization). With Fuji's more recent release of the newer XF 23mm F/2.0, the XF 35mm f/2.0, and now this XF 50mm F/2.0, the company has embarked on lenses that are far lighter and smaller than the ones first mentioned, and also include fast, silent, and more modern focusing mechanisms. They don't drink in the same amount of light as any of the F/1.2 models, as an F/1.2 aperture is really very open compared even to F/2.0, but F/2.0 is still considered a "fast" aperture: MANY other lenses on the market today only open to F/3.5. What Fuji has done is open up an entirely new line of "fast" lenses that are lighter, smaller, and more modern in their focusing mechanisms, sacrificing the aperture (a necessity) to do so. All three of these newer lenses are also fantastic, even when compared with their much more expensive Fuji brethren. They all take great photos, have good, what I would call "neutral" color palates, and work quickly and quietly with much less weight. And here's the thing: unless you have a special need for F/1.2 because you require a very emphasized background defocusing effect, the F/2.0 versions will easily fit the bill for your shooting, not only because they are good lenses, but because if you are shooting with a modern Fuji camera (like the X-T2, X-T3, or X-H1), you can shoot at previously unusable ISO numbers and get terrific shots. You'll do so, too, at a much lower price, due to the dramatically lower price of these newer lenses. Especially to the point on this XF 50mm, I have to agree with the majority of other reviews: this lens is SHARP. And I mean, sharp to the point that it might be the sharpest lens currently in the Fuji arsenal. Pair it with the X-H1 camera, and you have a sharp, "fast" lens that has image stabilization provided by the camera. But it will turn out amazingly good shots with other non-OIS Fuji cameras, because, as I say, the lens is fast, and these cameras really let you crank up the ISO like never before. Case in point: last year, my wife and I were in Bordeaux, shooting inside a medieval church on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, and it was so dark inside you could hardly see the hand in front of your face (the basilica is in serious need of renovation in spite of its architectural significance). A floodlight connected to a sensor would come on when someone came through the front door, but then would turn off again, plunging you into darkness. I was shooting with the X-T2 and the XF 10-24mm lens. I was able to crank up the ISO so high (I believe it was at 12,800) that I was able to get a complete set of interior photos that, when you see them on a computer screen, you would never know just how dark it really was in that building. And, mind you, that was with a lens that only opens up to F/4.0, which is miniscule compared to this 50mm lens here, which opens to F/2.0. You'll likely be as surprised as I when you see just how sharp this lens shoots. Also, being an XF lens that is built in Japan, it shares the silky smooth manual focus ring and the superior, all-metal and glass construction of the XF series. Maddeningly, the aperture ring STILL has the tendency to let you knock it off of the auto setting onto F/16, so, like many Fuji lenses that bear this fault, you have to keep an eye on it, or you'll be shooting at the wrong aperture all day long. (Why can't Fuji ever seem to address this? What a simple problem to fix!) Nevertheless, this is a quality lens build akin to all the Japanese Fuji XF lenses, and you can feel it when you pick it up. Focusing is fast and completely silent. Oh, and did I mention that this is a "WR" lens? That means it is weather resistant, so if you are using it with a weather resistant Fuji camera, that's pretty nifty. Can you shoot at 50mm? That's the question you have to ask yourself. If the field of view of this lens works for you (it is about a 75mm equivalent), this lens is definitely on the top of the short list. Yes, it comes with a crappy lens hood. Easily solved with a very inexpensive aftermarket hood if you can't deal with it. But if this field of view works for you, its a fantastic choice. Even at its retail price, it is something of a bargain; on sale, its a steal. Five "Fuji" Stars.

This is a fantastic addition to Fujifilm's F2 lineup of lenses. Build quality is very high. It feels like a solid piece of metal and glass, but not very heavy. It's weather resistant (WR) too. I wouldn't trust the WR in a heavy downpour, but it's certainly comforting to know the lens can handle some rain and dust. The aperture clicks nicely and stays put with just the right amount of resistance. The autofocus speed is fast, especially in good to moderate light. It's as fast as anything I've ever used in good light. In low light, it can hunt a little, but that's to be expected. On the plus side, the lens features a buttery smooth manual focus ring, and it's a joy to use. Image quality is nothing short of amazing. Truly. The XF50 delivers sharp, contrasty images and creamy smooth bokeh. Very nice overall rendering. It seems to take especially good black and white photographs. It maintains high image quality even when close focusing. In conclusion, it's a fantastic lens. The build quality is rugged, yet refined. The AF speed is zippy. Image quality is as good or better than any other 50mm I've ever used. Highly recommended. Depending on how you use it or see it, the XF50mm F2 could be considered a poor man's 56mm f/1.2, with the added size and WR benefits. Oh, and it's approximately half the price of its bigger brother. It was a good deal for me!

I own a number of fuji lenses, both primes and zooms, and this lens consistently leads to some of my favorite pictures. It's pretty sharp even wide open at f2, auto focus is fast and consistently reliable, build quality is great, it's nice and compact, colors come out great, and bokeh is just beautiful. I primarily do landscape photography but usually hike with my dog so this is a great lens to get some beautiful pictures of her, but I also love it for shooting plants (there are some example pictures of both). Image stabilization would be great for the older cameras without IBIS (I have an XT-3) and weather sealing would also be a nice bonus, but honestly missing those two features really just brings it down from a 6 or a 7 to a 5/5 for me.

I bought this lens because I've started to take portrait's semi-professionally. Being that great portrait lenses aren't exactly budget friendly, I was looking for a lens that could perform nicely without busting my wallet. This lens did the trick! No, it doesn't quite have the character and mouth-watering bokeh of the Fujifilm 56mm f1.2, or the gorgeous sharpness and ridiculously good subject isolation of the 90mm f2, but it does have great contrast and fast auto focus, and renders sharp images that my clients love. All this for less than half the prize of those other lenses! The 75mm full frame equivalent is nice for portraits and I enjoyed the decent f2 aperture, which allows you to capture enough light in most situations and isolate your subjects from their backgrounds. Not being a full-on pro, I can't justify paying $1,000 for a lens but I also want to take beautiful pictures that make a statement. This lens hit the sweet spot and in a sturdy, weather resistant little package too! I am happy with my investment.

This lens came with very minor and insignificant evidence of prior use. The lens is sharp as a tack, dust and scuff free and a huge bargain over new product. I’m a big fan of this lens, and I was late to the party. I have used the 56 mm F1 .2 for a few years and didn’t think this one was worth it since I had that FL covered. But I needed the water resistance at a similar focal length, and have been extremely impressed with this lens. It’s moved up to the top of one of my favorite of all my Fuji lenses, and I own over 10 of them. The size, speed, weather resistance, and amazing quality make this Lens a permanent resident of my most essential Fuji kit.

I received this lens a few days ago after pre-ordering more than a month ago. The wait seemed like forever, so I was ecstatic to receive the lens from UPS. I immediately put it on my XPro-2 and started taking pictures around my office. The lens is light and incredibly tiny for having such a large minimum aperture. I found it to have excellent sharpness and can't wait to try it as a portrait lens. I noticed that the autofocus is a little louder and slower than the XF35mm F2, but it is still very quick. The next day I took this lens to a local park and took many nature/landscape photos with it. I was pleased that it was so light and compact. It made carrying it a breeze and it was much more inconspicuous than I thought it might be. I'm looking forward to using it on the street for candid photos of everyday life. My only concern with this lens is that it exhibited quite a bit of chromatic aberration in back-lit photos. I can reduce/eliminate the effect using a manual lens correction (see photos) in Lightroom but I was disappointed to see it occur in almost every back-lit photo. Overall, the lens worked great. On the day I went shooting, the temperature dropped from 42-deg to 30-deg over an hour and there was light snow. The camera and lens had no issues with such a cold day and the pictures (after a little work in LR) came out beautifully.

Reviewers with the technical ability to do so say sharpness and other image qualities are very good indeed. So what! I doubt there has been a single poor lens offered by the major camera companies for quite a few years. Someone, knocked my Fuji's 60mm off a table. The cost to repair was about the same as replacing it with a slightly used or open box 60mm. Since I rately used the 60mm for true macro - close up more often -I decided to try something different. While I make an occasional people photo, I'm not really in to portraits. Thus the size weight and price of the 56mm were not compensated by its prime virtues. What all that came to was a decision to try the 50mm. It has filled all the non-specialized niches of the two lenses above while being a lot more user friendly. User friendly to me means not being a burden to lug around having quick accurate auto focus. For photographing people in public it's not "in your face" like the 18/23/35mm lens. It is not as intimidating/annoying to the subject as any of the tele-zooms This helps even with people you know. 50mm encourages you to compose by narrowing you view from the whole scene before you. The focal length is not so long as to be super dpecialized so you can leave it on all day if you like. Although this lens will not replace the 60mm's macro capability, it works well with Fuji's auto-extension tubes (which can slip into a shirt pocket) to provide some worthwhile closeup capability. You can certainly do portraits with the 50mm. No doubt the 56mm produces better out of focus regions but I have long suspected that non-photographers can't tell and don't care. Depth of field at f/2 is narrow enough to to separate the subject from the background in nearly all cases though the 56mm will work better in certain situations. In short the 50mm is easy to use and carry about and for me anyway, more versatile. Note I never said "good enough" because it is too good to be just "good enough". Oh yes! I and some others felt that with the earlier Fuji lenses the lens hoods, and front & rear lens caps were a nuisance. Easy to accidentally fall off, hard to put back on. Hood were hard to put on reversed for storage. Some lens hood just seemed too monsterouly huge to be practical. Someone must have been paying attention because none of that applies to the 50mm f/2. They all work just fine

I am a total amateur photographer, shooting with an X-T20. Compared to my kit lens (the cheap 16-50mm one, not the 18-55mm kit lens everyone loves), this thing is incredible. Photos are sharp, auto-focus is fast, and the aperture ring is fun, and easy to use. I wanted the 56mm 1.2f but at 50% of the price, you are getting 90% of that lens. This stepped up my photography game big-time, capturing beautiful shots of my kids that aren't possible with my phone (stop convincing yourself that the bokeh on your phone looks good - it doesn't). Look for sales, this will frequently drop by $100. Happy shooting!
