Take a moment and consider what you're about to do – drop $80 on a hunk of metal that sits on your already-expensive lens, when there are several perfectly-capable alternatives for less than a third of the price. Done considering? Go ahead and buy it, I guess – I did, and wouldn't have it any other way. One legitimate gripe – the metal wears pretty hard, especially the white 'Fujifilm' logo. After about 4 months of use, mine now (barely) reads, "FujHilm".

Construction of the hood is very good, but the cap is a slightly different story. Upon opening the box, the hood has the cap already on, so when I tried to pop it off, I ended up bending and breaking the very thin plastic rails that guide it off when I was suppose to slide it off in just one direction. And they broke so easily, I didn't realize what I had done until latter. I never thought I would have to read instructions first before using a lens hood the first time. And after some searching for just a new cap, it seams that getting it by itself is not possible. Fuji should have used another 1/10 of a penny worth of plastic to make the rails tougher. Considering the many time a lens owner will put a cap on and off, when just once getting it wrong result in trashing it, makes it a poor design.

Great upgrade over the plastic lens hood included with the Fujinon XF16mm f1.4 lens! I love the metal feel and the look of the hood. My only complaint is that the lens hood cover pops off easily when I have my camera slung across my body with a Peak Design strap. In fact, I've actually lost the cover during a trip to New Orleans. After calls to FujiFilm US to get a replacement, I've found out that they do not sell just the lens hood cover separately. I'm hoping that they will eventually start selling a replacement in the near future, or that some other company will start making and selling a replacement.

Yes, this is a pricey lens hood but I can't give it less than full stars because it is so effective and extremely attractive. The 16mm glass is very exposed which can be dangerous when you're playing around with the semi-macro glory of the amazing lens. The second day after owning the lens I smacked it into something and took a little chip out of the lens hood. There is a good chance that without it my beautiful lens would have been damaged. Don't let that happen. If you don't want to use the bulbous and unattractive lens hood that ships with the 16mm this is your best choice! PS - Bonus good looks when paired with the X-Pro2!

Great fitting hood, fit and finish is superb. Kind of expensive, but looks much better than the hood the XF16mm comes with. An added bonus is that you can set the camera down and because the hood is flat the camera can stand up on its own on the hood. Oh, and if it matters, the hood is not made in Japan. Made in China, at least mine was.

It is well made and looks 1000 times better than the tulip style hoods. It is also a little expensive. Styling goes hand in hand with the Fujifilm X series retro designs. The hood also adds more protection because I can leave it on all the time. The original hood added too much length and would be removed to go back in my bag but I'd often just not use it at all. I hope Fuji continues to make these alternative hoods.
