I've been running an 8,000 btu of this same brand, but with the intense heat so early this year & the loss of 2 shade trees, it was no longer cutting it. I wanted to go with a 12k unit, but the house I rent is old & I was worried it would be too many amps. Anyways, to get on with it... Packaging: The item arrived packaged very well. They even included foam & weatherstripping. The unit has a small ding on the top, and an area of the fins that is messed up. This is pretty minimal for shipping such a large item, and I've had worse damage on ones I've bought in the store. Install: Instructions are simple, and you only have to install the side pieces. (The instructions included installing the top bar, but mine was already intact.) I'm a petite, 50-something-year old & I had no problems with it. Not saying it was fun, but it's not so heavy that you can't manage it yourself. You basically get in the window & you're ready to go. Features: * The vents are 3" tall (my last 2 were 2.5") so it puts out a good amount of air flow. I can easily feel it standing 12 feet away & use a fan to take advantage of moving that air towards my bedroom. * The cord is LONG - twice as long as my last unit, giving me a lot more flexibility for changing outlets. * The panel is nice & clearly labeled. No odd symbols or abbreviations to have to lookup every time you forget what they mean. Not much more to say. * Remote. Comes with one. I haven't used it yet as I've had it set the same to keep my dog cooler in this heat. * Yes it has foam, and it's much thinner than my older unit. You can see sunlight coming thru. I haven't found another brand that doesn't use the same cheap materials here. ** If the unit shuts itself off when you 1st try it, check to see if the ECO button is on. It will save you a 2-minute hissy fit over thinking you got a bad unit, trust me. It has automatically reverted to the ECO feature after turning the power off & on; not sure if you can change this. Noise: * I've seen complaints about this, but if you lookup the model specs for other AC's, you'll find this unit is = or < decibels than others on the market. The highest setting is 3 decibels lower than my 8,000 unit. I'm happy. * The noise difference between the on/off cycle is minimal. It doesn't sound like an airplane taking off & won't scare the crap out of you. Summary: In comparison with my 8,000 btu on a 94 degree, sunny day, this kept my house consistently 2 degrees cooler during the worst hours of the day. It cooled down faster at dusk; with the unit on 72, I was at 73 degrees by 7 pm instead of midnight, and that's where it stayed until the heat built up again the next day. Again, this in an older, poorly insulated home with bad windows & no shade. I really didn't think 2,000 btu would make that much of a difference, so I'm really pleased with how it's working so far. I feel it's definitely worth what I paid for it & hopefully it will last at least 2-3 years.

I had gotten a portable ac unit that melted my wall outlet and just about cried when I had to unplug it due to fire hazard. Had to go shopping for a window unit I could install by myself. Based on reviews, and knowing Frigidaire is a good brand, I went with this 6000 btu window unit. Where I live it is HOT. I mean the fires of hell hot, relentless heat for days in a row during summer, and even with my backup ac, could only get my house to 83 when it was 106 outside. Still on the warm side for us. I wanted more btus, but I also have to be able to lift it. Well this little beauty works like a champ. Was worried about what condition it would be in because I saw a lot of reviews showing damaged units from shipping. Feel like I got lucky because mine arrived in perfect condition. Awesome. This unit weighs 40 pounds so I was able to lift it carefully and install it. Now, how does it cool? The room was 84 when I was able to finally turn it on. The fan on high doesn’t blow too far, but then again it’s a small fan. The air coming out is very cold though. I put a good fan in front of it to throw the cool air further, and watched the temp start going down. Woke up this morning to a very comfy 75. It is also very quiet. A lot of people complained about the noise but I had to go over there and check it was still on it’s so quiet. I absolutely love this little cooler. Best part is, my outlet is nice and cool too. No warm wall, no fire hazard. Thank goodness we will survive the summer, and so will my house. Please be careful of portable ac units, if you have one, please check your wall outlet for damage or excessive heat as that is a fire hazard. I just do not understand why people don’t talk about that serious danger of portable units. Keep cool, and keep safe friends!

There was a heat wave recently and I had a 8,000 BTU AC that wasn't powerful enough to cool my living room. I really wanted a 12,000 BTU AC but this 10,000 BTU model, at the price, could not be beat. Once I installed and turned on the unit, and the compressor kicked in, the AC blasted nice cool air. I could feel the power from half way across my living room. At the highest speed, it is loud. This isn't a con as I don't expect anything putting out this much power and air to ever be silent. The remote that comes with the unit has a sensor that detects the temp of the room. It can be changed to the number set on the unit if needed. It has good range as I often use it to work the unit from about 10 feet. The vent in the unit has a lever that can be put in 3 different positions. 1st position the vents are closed (coolest). 2nd position, the unit draws outside air. 3rd position the unit circulates the air in the room. There are a lot of nice features with the unit that I will eventually use, but my main objective was to have an AC that can cool my living room and this was accomplished. I have been using the AC for about 2 weeks now. The brand is well known for most of their appliances, and I am happy to say the AC does a nice job cooling the space.
