    • Quality lights but a bit hard to set up

Overall this is a quality product with a couple of faults. First of all, the kit comes with two soft box light setups, including stand, lighting head, 10 45W fluorescent bulbs, reflector, and light diffusers. It produces very nice soft light. The lighting head itself has three switches on it, which can be used to control the five bulbs. Two of the switches control two bulbs, whereas one switch controls a single bulb in the middle. Flaws: the setup is not easy. It's not horrible, but it could be a lot easier. The "box" reflector is held in shape by four poles that have to be inserted one end into the box and the other end into the lighting head. Getting the poles in place is very challenging. You'll want to do this without the bulbs inserted, as you can knock over the entire rig or smash one of the bulbs with a pole. Second, the lighting head itself appears not to be UL rated and is the cheapest component here. The bulb sockets look cheap, and are poorly threaded. It was nearly impossible to get a bulb into one of the sockets. We've been making bulb sockets for how many years now? I'm always concerned about poorly made electrical devices as there is risk of fire or shock. Finally, the light will consume about 2A when fully on, so both together will be 4A. LED lighting is much more efficient. You'll definitely want to switch these off when not in use, and if you have 15A circuits like I do, running a lot of these at once could trip your breaker. I’ve bought cheap lights before that didn’t get the job done and was afraid of the same thing so I bought the most recommend lights from people who use them for photography and videography. These are definitely much better. A little difficult to assemble the sticks onto the light and soxbox, but otherwise easy to assemble. Seems sturdy but is too heavy, make sure the floor is completely level or it tips over much too easily. The boxes are of a weird size. Most of the ones I’ve seen are big and square but these are more rectangle in shape and surprisingly small. I also thought the lights would be much stronger and brighter. These are great quality lights but I think they are much too overpriced for what you get. Update. I used both lights once, everything worked. When I tried using them for the second time, one softbox would not turn on. I tried all the troubleshooting methods. Used a different power cord, tried the lights in the other light heads, they worked. None of the fuses looked broken or blown. I opened up the fuse head and everything was fine. I contacted Fovitec and they said this particular product (SPK10) always has a defective light head. So just buy straight from Fovitec instead of purchasing from Amazon. ... show more

    • You get what you pay for, but it's not all bad. It does what it needs to if you know how to light properly.

For those looking to have a lighting setup that will not require them to constantly disassemble on a daily to weekly basis, this kit will probably be a worthwhile investment. Unfortunately, within a day of using this kit, one of the heads decided to malfunction and the center bulb stopped working. Besides that, the kit puts out adequate light, though I am hesitant to say whether or not the light output is exactly what I expected. I wanted this setup for video review purposes. While the kit advertises a 2000W output with 10 bulbs, keep in mind that the softboxes this comes with will feature TWO layers of diffusers which will significantly reduce the light output as opposed to using the bulbs bare. It will come down to the decision of how soft or hard you want your light to be when using them for it to truly put out 2000W of light. This is purely unscientific, but I would estimate the total light output when using both softboxes to be around half of what the name advertises. I do not think this is false advertising on the seller's part, but it is simply how softboxes work. More layers of diffusion = less light output. Simple as that. I would suggest buying bigger and higher output bulbs and using less diffusion for anyone else. Otherwise, the stands, as expected, are not ideal, but for the price they certainly do the job they're set out to do. The softboxes aren't so weighty that they'll tip over on their own, but you will definitely want to make sure no one bumps into them or they'll certainly tip over. Needless to say, take care of this kit. For what you're paying, the parts will eventually break if you don't. But for the job they're set out to do and for how much it costs, it works as expected. Just hope you don't get a bad socket head like I did and you're golden. ... show more

Took me some time to figure out how to put it all together. If you are buying from outside the USm please remember you might need to use your own light bulbs- the ones than came with the kit were useless to me- and its not the fault of the product of course. This is excellent product. I wanted to photograph my daughter in my small home studio. I bought 2 then 1 more so I have 3 lights total and I have them for about 3 weeks now. The bulb color is very good, no flickering. Items shipped and arrived great, no damage. The pictures I attached here speak for themselves.
