  • Good value, easy installation
I couldn't bring myself to pay the extra money for one of the big name roof racks. I searched for some time and ran across this Ford OEM set for 1/3 the price. These fit nicely right out of the box and sit low to the roof unlike the aftermarket cross bars that sit quite a bit higher. Installation took about 30 minutes using supplied TORX wrench and bolts. The bolts came with thread lock already installed so no need to worry about the bolts backing out on a long road trip. Just make sure you tighten the bolts all the way down to prevent rattling because the thread lock will make it feel like the bolts are seated. The cross bars are sturdy and there is no free play. Wind noise is negligible and there was no rattling at speeds up to 65 MPH. I would highly recommend. ... show more

  • Great Price For Ford OEM Part
First and foremost, perfect fit on 2019 Explorer Sport. After reading the reviews, I was proactive and bought a second thumbwheel kit. Doing so makes for additional attachment points and eliminates any exposed metal (bolts or rail). Installation was a breeze. In case anyone was wondering, like I was, here's an answer to the question, "Am I supposed to tighten the bolt on the underside of the rails?". I was pretty sure the answer was NO, but wanted some sort of confirmation. Could not find one anywhere, not in the instructions, not in the manual, not on YouTube, nowhere. My first clue that you don't do anything with the "loose side" was the bolt accepts a different size torx tool. Second, when both sides are tightened down, there is NO movement with the bars. So to answer the question, you are not supposed to tighten them down. Sorry for the rant. Bars are great, works perfectly with a Thule Atlantis cargo box (use positions 1-2 and 3-4 or front & middle). Great price and free shipping. Highly Recommended ... show more

  • From a skeptical buyer, this product worked great for me.
This product exceeded my expectations. For the last 20 years I have installed only Thule roof racks on all of my vehicle and my vehicles have always had a roof rack. When exploring the Thule options for my 2016 Ford Explorer Sport I was SHOCKED by what it was going to cost me to outfit my new rig: $569.00! and that is simply for the cross bars, no accessories. Knowing that all newer Thule accessories mount to most factory aero style bars, I decided to buy these instead, hoping for best. I was pleasantly surprised that they were made of what appears to be a quality aluminum with a nice semi gloss powder coat finish. They took 5 minutes to install. I now have my Thule surfboard and fork mount bike tray mounted to them with no problem, saving me on the order of $480.00. By themselves, they make NO noise! With my attachments added I now have the very slightest of wind noise, but I have to turn the radio all the way down and consciously listen for the noise. For all intents and purposes the wind noise is less than negligible. Very pleased. ... show more

  • Pretty good!
I guess my real issue isn't really with these crossbars as they are actual Ford parts, as is my gripe with the side rails. Ford should be ashamed om designing side rails with out any type of openings for lashing and tying down to! If it comes down to being pretty or having functionality....I choose functionality! ... show more

  • OEM FTW
Easy to install. Comes with everything you need. Instead of the supplied L-key, I used a T-30 bit on a hand driver as well as the Wheeler inch-pound torque wrench and a 6" extension. Instructions call for about 28 in-lbs. Fasteners have thread locker preapplied so no worries about things coming loose. It takes a small step ladder and a towel to set the hardware on during installation. The plastic plugs that come on the vehicle may need a fingernail or small flat-blade screwdriver under them in order to turn them loose, since they don't actually have threads. The bars are shaped like an airplane wing and install in the same direction. The rear one is longer than the front. Ford says the rear bar mounted in the forward position will cause less wind noise. This is where I mounted mine. I would only elect using the rear position if I needed to mount something big like a canoe. The strength of these bars instills an enduring feeling of satisfaction with each use. ... show more

  • Bar bent within one year! Defective product.
Less than one year in and one bent so we are unable to use, also could have caused serious accident while on Highway. We only use kayaks and cargo carrier, within recommended weight, so this should NOT have happened. Very disappointed.

  • Easy to install, works, easy to recommend
Purchased for my 2017 Explorer Sport so that I can later mount a snowboard rack for this winter season. Arrived safe and sound with clearly marked front and rear bars, 8 torx screws, torx allen wrench, and installation instructions. Installation took maybe 10 minutes, but I sped things along using a power drill affixed with a T-25 torx bit, but if you have more patience than I do the supplied allen wrench will serve you fine. Will update this review once my snowboard rack arrives and is installed. Drove around at about 30-40 mph to make sure the crossbars wouldn't rattle around or introduce wind noise and couldn't notice a difference in cabin noise. [Update] Decided on the widest Rhino Rack available, which is designed for 6 skis and probably at most 4 snowboards. It attached easily to these cross bars in about 10 minutes. Couldn't be happier with this setup. ... show more

  • Great product, easy installation
These appear to be Ford OEM crossbars. Much less expensive than buying at the dealer, I think about $140.00 there. They fit my 2016 Ford Explorer LTD. The roof rack has changed in this model from my 2011 Explorer. The front x bar can only be installed in one place, the rear x bar has 2 positions. I was able to accommodate by Thule roof box by placing the rear x bar in the more forward position, I think about 28" back from the front x bar position. Installation was easy, Requires a Torx driver. The included a small one, but I could not get the leverage I needed with that. It it a good idea to place a moving blanket or similar on your roof to protect the glass. ... show more
