I enjoy my inexpensive espresso machine. Unfortunately, the water reservoir is plastic. I would have given five stars if the reservoir was glass instead. Otherwise, the silver plastic covering on the model gives it a cheap feel and look upon closer inspection.

This is my first espresso machine. The machine looks nice and is great for me as a novel espresso drinker.

    • First espresso machine...
I just started drinking coffee a few years ago. They say your taste buds change every 7 years. Obviously they do. Because prior to those years...most of my life I couldn't even stand the smell of coffee, much less the taste. I enjoy mocha's, cappuccinos, and lattes... I also love frappuccinos. But I don't think you can make one of those on this machine. I wanted to get a machine that could help me actually make those specialty drinks, myself. I kind of do a makeshift one with my Keurig, by adding whipped cream on top. But they're not really true espressos. So I opted to get this machine. In all honesty... I'm a little intimidated using this machine. It took me a while to even get the portafilter to lock in place. It was so hard to do, I was afraid I was going to break it. But finally I managed to get it to lock. And I did it a couple of times to make sure I could still do it. This experience alone was intimidating. LOL I wasn't sure of the right kind of coffee to use. So I had to get some advice. It was pretty easy to fill. Both with the water, and the coffee...once I learned how to lock the portafilter in place. I'm basically at the simple coffee stage at this point. I still have to kind of work up my confidence to know how to do the frothing, and all the other things that makes cappuccinos, lattes, and mochas taste so good. But since this is my first time owning a machine like this... I'm just going to learn as a go, and take one step at a time. As I become more confident with running this machine, I'll come back and give you more updates about my experience. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. While I'm a pretty big coffee fan myself, my tastes tend to be quite pedestrian. My friend and client, however, is another story. She buys the good stuff. Coffee for her is a sacred, daily ritual. So naturally when I saw this one, I thought I would surprise her! I have zero experience with espresso. (I had to have someone show me how to use my Keurig machine!) So I had quiet the learning curve ahead of me. Starting with the unpacking, I checked for all of the parts. I was also amused by the package that proclaims "Brew like a professional...just like your home coffeehouse," and right on the side panel notes: "Household use only." Sorry, commercial users! All joking aside, unlike some other reviewers, I wouldn't know a bad machine from a good one, being new to all of this, but I do know that the included instructions are terrible. The booklet does a decent job of explaining what everything is and how to clean and maintain it all, but is short on how to use it. There's a quick start card, but the print is ludicrously small and talks about things not included. (Frothing pitcher?) Thankfully, the manufacturer's Facebook page and a few YouTube videos came to the rescue! And it IS easier than it first appears. With practice, I think I could even get good at this! (My gal approved as well. Not bad for a first effort!) You can see the making of the 2nd cup in my totally unedited, crude and unprofessional video. Try not to laugh...too much. Looking at some other reviews, I'm happy to report that everything worked; plenty of steam, good, hot espresso and the frother is almost too potent! I also like that the top of the unit is a cup warmer, which is apparently a good thing where espresso is concerned. So, bottom line, I'm happy, my coffee snob GF is happy, and getting such a good cup o' joe from such an inexpensive machine makes us happy! ... show more
