This Thermal Imaging Product with a frame rate of 9Hz or less are controlled by the U.S. Department of Commerce and classified under Export Control Classification Number (“ECCN”) 6A993.a for U.S. export control purposes and may not be exported, re-exported, or transferred to a “Military End-User” in any country except the U.S. or Canada, except as approved under a U.S. export or re-export license. “Military End-User” means national armed services (army, navy, marine, air force, coast guard), national guard, national police, government intelligence or reconnaissance organizations. Military End-User also means any person or entity whose actions or functions are intended to support Military End-Uses. Well made, rugged, good performance and the software menus are easy to navigate. Good battery life. Bright clear screen is large, making viewing easy. Drops right into a jacket pocket, easy to carry. We use it to spot bad chips on power amplifier circuit boards. You can't see it with the naked eye, but this camera shows the overheated chips glowing brightly on the screen. The boards are diagnosed in minutes instead of hours. For that reason alone it was worth the price. If you're new to infrared imaging, don't expect lots of megapixels, that would cost you a fortune. Instead, if you need more resolution just get closer to the subject. The resolution of this camera is adequate for my application. It has good file-transfer features which I haven't used yet. It also has another use that is equally wonderful. If a horse or cow doesn't come home at night, this camera can quickly spot them a long distance away. Likewise, a quick scan of the pasture confirms all are present and accounted for. It's better than a flashlight because they stand out among objects that conceal them such as fences, trees and bushes, which appear dark in the infrared image. ... show more

I bought this camera for use doing home energy evaluations. Opened it up, it was charged and used it to look at the walls of my own home to see areas where the insulation could be better. A few days late I took it to the shop to show my co-workers and it wouldn't work. When you turned it on the screen showed weird patterns and no usable information. I cycled it on and off a couple of time with no better results. Left it sitting on my desk while we went to a job. When I came back tried it again and it worked perfectly. Hmmm. The camera is only an inch thick, and the view screen is larger than some of the other handhelds. It is easy to hold while panning a room, circuit breakers, or equipment. I like the way an image has what I call pencil lines of objects in a room, making it easy to recognize what you are imaging. Automatic high and low temps on the scale and spot temp. Sensitivity is great. An example is my cat setting on a rug for a couple minutes. The cat moves but you still see an image where the cat was setting as the rug absorbed a little heat. I have used Flir industrial cameras the last 20 years, costing many thousands of dollars. For the low cost, this infrared camera has great value from higher end cameras they sell. Pros: Seems like a pretty good build quality for taking onto jobsites, a lot of useful accessories are included. Screen is big enough to see what you are looking at, but it would be even better if there was something like an HDMI port for larger screens to be an option. Cons: This was the first thermal camera I've ever operated but I had higher expectations for the technology. I found the chromograph (color graph indicating temperature range) difficult to reference, it was always different, and the time it took to calibrate is something you want to anticipate ahead of time, otherwise you might miss the shot you want to take. I would have also liked the software to give me more options for exploring the heatmap data. Thoughts: I should have done much more research before choosing a thermal camera. Consider checking their website for their OEM articles and options for building custom solutions, if you do not see reviews for normal products. There's a chance you can build the product you want/need rather than settling for the consumer grade options. ... show more

Too frustrating to use any longer. I hoped Id get more that 2 years out of it. Hangs when booting and every feature and task is slow. It will no longer connect to a computer with the usb cable. I tried multiple cables and multiple computers. Online help points to a power problem with the usb port. For Win 10, support says it can take ~10 minutes to connect, so check back often I guess. Next, go into the secret menu and change the USB mode to a selection that isn't available. Last, reset the device and hope for the best. Kind of like the old pc days when reinstalling the OS was the answer to every problem. I was hoping the firmware upgrade would do the trick. Again no easy task as you need a full battery, patience with download failures, and half a day to complete. One star because at this price the performance and basic functionality should be much better. ... show more

I recently purchased the Flir C3-X to replace my older model C2. While you do need to set up an online Flir account , it does make file transfer painless as long as you have Wifi you're good to go when on the road. If anything it comes with the USB cable included. View, edit, download your photos where ever, pay nothing extra. When using the online software Flir Ignite you do need to consent to roughly two requirements, pretty standard, nothing crazy as others described with the C5 series. Recommended warm-up times is roughly 5 minutes once you power it up but, this device is pretty fast and much faster than my older C2. Yes, you own your photos as well, read the fine print! I'm a home inspector and I do use my thermal cams often. Perfect size, priced right for a brand name thermal camera, picture quality is great for my use of the device. Touchscreen options has just what you need, can even edit photos right on the cam and add names, location to each photo. Product also came with a pouch, durable lanyard, USB cable, 3 month trial of Flir Thermal studio which is different from the Flir Ignite I mentioned above. This appears to be for those that need to do a lot more with the thermal images such as thermal reports on Flir templates. Received my order the next-day, well packaged, no damage to box or device.
