I ran into a couple plumbing issues when I was hooking this up, but it was my fault for trying to cheap-out at first. Do yourself a favor and don’t mess with the typical copper fitting with pipe threads. It will likely leak and the hassle isn’t worth saving a couple bucks. Buy water heater connectors, and use those to hook this up, and you’ll be done quickly! Once the plumbing portion is done, it’s quick to finalize the setup. Just enter the couple things needed on the controller and you’re all set to go. Just don’t forget to switch the bypass to run through the softener... it took me a day of wondering why my water wasn’t soft before I realized what had happened. Also, if you lose the hardness test strips that supposedly come with this (I couldn’t find them, but I probably lost them), it’s easy to find your approximate hardness with a couple minutes of searching online - water hardness is generally pretty consistent within a general location. Also, if you have a pool or aquarium water test kit, it probably has a hardness test included. Notes and suggestions aside, the softener has been working well, and I love having softer water!

Buyer Be Ware - After 8.5 year the resin tank started leaking. The order says it has a 10 warranty on all tanks but to try to get any information about the warranty and or how to file a claim is impossible. Mine was sold by American Water Solutions (AWS) but has a business name of Vistar Water Tech. Fleck has been bought out by Pentair. I started by trying to contact the seller via Amazon's order 2 weeks ago and I have not heard a word. I have since tried calling and emailing AWS, Vistar, and Pentair and have not had any replies.... I have had several water softeners over my lifetime and this is the first water softener that the resin tank leaked. Overall, the system has worked well with only a few minor glitches. I have a problem giving any water softener 5 stars because I do not know how it would exceed my expectations, but I know many people would give it five stars if it was easily installed and worked.

Excellent water softener. Reduced our pH, hardness and iron content in the water instantly. Easy assembly (you will need some pex adapters from the hardware store), and easy operation. Uses less salt than others I have had. Quiet and well built.

Works great so far but a few minor complaints and/or items for improvement. The flow meter, bypass assembly and adapter setup is very annoying. The fittings are wobbly and a bit loose even when tightened all the way. They don't leak, just feel flimsy. The whole assembly sticks way far out the back so I had to mount the tank far away from the wall to allow room for pipes. The 1" NPT adapter is made of plastic. To get 1" pipe threads to not leak, you need a lot of tape and to stand on it with a pipe wrench. I made it work but was terrified I was going to break it. Also wish the brine tank had a flat top so I could pile junk on top of it, like my old one. These are minor, setup and install is easy and works well.

Setup is straightforward on the unit itself - particularly with good YouTube videos to help. The plumbing attachment is the biggest installation challenge but that isn't really related to the quality or design of the softener.. And, it isn't too big of a challenge if one has plumbing skills. I've had it for about 3 weeks now and it just works flawlessly. I haven't touched the softener or settings since installation. It is so much better than my old unreliable Kenmore softener. And, I expect the efficiency will be significantly better as well.

What a great product so far. I have hard water (iron) and my old system was not getting the water clean. I had a local water company come out to give me a quote for a new one. They told me they were going to give me deal and custom build my system and install it for $2,700. After doing a little checking, there seems there is nothing to build. I found this system, and seems like there was nothing but good reviews. Since I am a DIY kind of person, I ordered this system and installed it myself. Shipped to my door for around $700.00. The instructions were good and watching a youtube video helped. Took about 2 hours to install. I could tell a HUGE difference in the quality of my water that evening.

I bought a new unit in May and had it installed and it has not worked right from the beginning. The seller has refused to answer any of my E-Mails that I sent through the Amazon complaint process. I have had two plumbers out to look at the unit and one of them thinks he knows that the gallon counter in the unit is not working correctly. So far this has been a downer for me. I intend to call the manufacturer to see if they will do something about this since it is under warranty.
